Is Pete Barton trying to get Geldof back with The Rats?

Let's hope Pete persuades Bob to make a return...

When Adam Barton needs inspiration he reaches for a DVD of his rock star dad.  Preston's talented midfielder admits he couldn't have a better role model than Pete Barton, vocalist and bass player with The Animals.

In an exclusive interview in this weekend's matchday programme The One And Only, Adam tells Brian Ellis about his upbringing in a house filled with guitars, drum kits and a purpose-built recording studio.

Members of The Jam and Boomtown Rats are regular visitors. "Dad's on and off the phone to Bob Geldoff (sic) trying to get him back in the band" revealed Adam, who is a budding rock performer in his own right.

We can only dream, but this interview with Johnnie Fingers from 2011 kinda rules it out, Fingers being 'very busy' organising the Fuji Rock Festival.

Well he could always get the Rats on the bill at the Fuji, if he ever changed his mind.

 Changed his mind, has he?

How much money would they have to throw at the Rats to get them back on tour again?
It wouldn't be to do with money really. It sounds like a cliché but it's to do with whether we'd all like to play together again. It would have to be the right moment and everyone would feel right about it.

Could you see it happening at all or is it a definite no-no?
I don't think it's a definite no-no.

Would you get the pyjamas back out if you did do the tour?
That's where the money would come in. I often think when I see bands like The Beach Boys and they don't wear those stripy shirts that I feel ripped off.

Fingers was asked by the reporter if he was planning a Boomtown Rats reunion for that specific Fuji Festival ie sometime post March 2011, so we can take it that when he said no, it didn't rule out a reunion at some stage.

Granted being involved in organising such a high profile festival probably taken a huge amount of work and travel all year 'round- so Fingers is likely to be pretty much indisposed.

Interestingly he said 'some of the ex members want to' without naming names.

I guess that Fingers is the least likely to appear on stage with the Rats as he is in Japan, but he was down to make a guest appearance with the new Rats a couple of years ago, before the gig was cancelled.

A reunion without Fingers and Cott is the most likely scenario anyway. Getting either or both onboard would be a bonus.  Events in the last couple of years have made some sort of a reunion a possibility, even if it is unlikely.
