I just can't get to London during the week. It's not practical. Why didn't he do that one at the weekend. I wonder what is going on as we still have nearly a month to go, surely more tickets might be sold in that time. We were up to row Y in the stalls the other night??
Was really looking forward to that. Trying to console myself with think of next time round, will go to some more. Just hope he can sell enough tickets. If I could be loads of people and my loads of tickets I would divide myself up!
OK Just had a chat with Howard. Too disappointed not to. We will take time off work and come to London. I've just booked seats G18 and 19. Not too bad I suppose. Looks like there are loads of tickets left, so get buying people. I'm not holding out much hope for it not being cancelled though
you need to all come to London - to avoid that one being cancelled, lol
Well, it was advertised in Time out today, so it should be OK.
In general, London gigs are rarely, if ever, cancelled (sometimes postponed). And for some good reasons.
They are often last nights/first nights and have a party associated.
Celebrities/music industry/liggers all turn up for it.
It's a bit more embarrassing to cancel than Bristol.
A few years ago the Kinks did Wembley Arena, but have only sold a handful of tickets, they just put a big curtain up about half way down and every one was in front of that.
Some of the after gig parties are so big in London, more often than not, you end up getting passes from people who just can't be bothered. Had many a drunken night paid for by benevolent rock stars!
Hell, for the Thrills, I swear there were almost as many people for the party as the gig. Though I have to thank a lovely girl from Virgin for supplying us with the requisite wrist bands!
I think it'll sell out stalls and first level (I noted level 2 aren't on sale any more), as Londoners only worry about getting tickets in advance for the sell outs (like Franz Ferdinand) and will leave it late (often just buy on the night).
That said, Shepherd's Bush isn't ideal as far as that is concerned, because it's not a place I would plan to be on a Monday Night in December.
Now if he had played the Almeida the night before in a Madonna like gig at Koko (which is available on Sunday 11th, hint!), I would buy the whole front row! I love seeing the reds of rock stars eyes! We could all book tables at the adjacent Le Mercury pre/post gig (Best restaurant in London!). Ok, maybe not the whole front row, you guys can have some too!
That said, he is planning a reworking of a couple of hits from 1979 for Shepherd's Bush... http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=48603&subForumID=136863&action=viewTopic&commentID=4646300&topicPage=
I'm booking a flight to Cali. New York isn't far enough.
I hope London isn't cancelled - it's worse for MJ and Steve they have flights booked! Great that you have tickets Jules. It will be nice to see you and Howard again.
Miss Jessica - my tickets were £25 each plus fees. I think they are all the same - check the website.
I was thinking that a w/e would be better as people would be more prepared to travel to London, probably, than elsewhere and spend a w/e in London than elsewhere. Simply that, hopefully this wouldn't affect the situation at Leicester or anywhere else.
This London gig HAS to go ahead, with MJ and Steve coming over and booking flights! That would be too unfair. Although I'm devastated about Bristol, at least I've seen a fantastic gig alreay, so I'm pretty lucky. Not sure I feel it right now.
Thanks, yes I did look yesterday, and we're trying to sort out transport via a coach right now! (We live in Bristol). If it's not too expensive and we can both make it, then I'm pretty sure we'll be there.
If so, we'll probably book the tickets this weekend.. BUT is there the chance that this one might get cancelled? I'd like to be sure it won't if we're rebooking tickets, booking coach seats etc.
We'll have to try and arrange for a fan meet up before gig, as there is quite a few of us going.
Somewhere nearby in Shepherd's Bush, but I don't really know the area. I could ask my sister if she knows of anywhere, unless anyone has any suggestions. Are you all able to get there early enough?

What seats did you get Jess?
We haven't booked them yet - need to sort out our transport before we can be sure that we can get there as we're quite a way away. But if we are, we'll book them either tomorrow or Saturday, and I'll tell you what seats we have then
I just hope it doesn't get cancelled if we do manage to get there.. it's quite a lot of hassle! But he's worth it
Are they getting cancelled because not enough tickets are getting sold?
Well if they are, is it any surprise?
He did Glasgow Academy a few years back to a packed out house (Avril Lavigne's favourite Scottish haunt)...so where is he doing the Scotttish gig this time....PERTH! Jesus wept!
Better to have waited for January & picked one of the main Scottish towns (or even dead centre Stirling which can be reached from anywhere in Scotland). Oh well.

To be honest who ever has promoted this tour has seriously gone about it the wrong way. Firstly, yes we all love Bob on this forum, but to the outside world he is largely irrelevant in musical terms. There is no way that he can fill the venues that have been chosen. Another act that I follow is Glenn Tilbrook from Squeeze. Now Squeeze played on right upto 1998 and played some fairly large venues such as the Royal Albert hall. However Tilbrook as a solo performer could never command even a fifth of a place. He now play at 300 seater venues etc. They are full and very lively.
Why couldn't the promoter pick sensible venues, such as intimate 300 seater venues. Theres the Leeds Variety, Komedia club in Brighton and many other places dotted around the place. These larger places also charge a lot more. The casual admirer will not fork out £20+ on a freezing Nov night, but might be persuaded to pay £12-£15.
Surely to have reasonable expectations and to actually play the dates is better than having to cancel and disappoint the fans that you have.

Totally agree. And wish I was off to the 100 club tonight to see Glenn.
I think it was a last minute thing to change to the bigger venues, they probably thought that with live 8 this year they could pull in bigger numbers. All the smaller venues that advertised Bob did'nt get him, why?

It's Ok to go for bigger venues in bigger cities, but in smaller provincial towns/cities it's a bit all or nothing. You are probably going to be the only show in town,, but would need to attract a lot of non-commited fans.
In a bigger city (Liverpool/Manchester/Glasgow/London), you are likely to have more fans but will have to compete with other attractions (I missed Geldof in London last time out to see the Strokes).
Maybe the venues are a bit ambitious given Geldof's current stature in the world of music and the fact it is a couple of years since any new material came out, but given his high profile this year (live 8 & the Rats re-issues) I believe a bit of savvy promotion and venue selection could have worked wonders.
Also the ticket prices seem steep. £25 is above average for Shepherd's Bush and would put off the more casual attendees, especially on a Monday night in December.
The last tour was fairly successful as people knew he would be playing more Rats stuff than usual, and on the back of the Best of charting.
I iz not playing Maybe it iz time to reform the East Dun Laoghaire massif
What are all these cancellations? Hasn't the London concert merged with the Leicester one? It makes more sense to play in the midlands, because people won't have as far to come from all over the country.
