Here is the Scotsman review from Perth. Most of it is a load of rubbish . Bob has an uneasy relationship with the press at the  best of times and this guy probably went with his preconceived ideas and intent on bringing that b*****d Geldof down a peg ot two. I mean, just look at the first line. I would think that seeing the dying in Ethiopia would humble Bob Geldof, not playing to some empty seats in Perth. He would not give a toss. If anyone knows what is important in life, it is him surely. What do journalists know anyway. I can assure you all the fans loved the whole show. Bob was quite right in saying something to the girls and got a round of applause for it. Talking to people afterwards, I did not hear a single negative comment.

It served as a clear signal that, in the fans' eyes at least, Geldof's post-Live Aid material does not bear up well in comparison with the songs which gave him his very first modicums of acclaim. Rolling out the hits was the only thing that saved this performance from mediocrity, although it also served as a reminder that there is a talented singer-songwriter lurking within the driving force behind all things Live Aid and Live8.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with this final paragraph.  I said much the same in one of the deleted threads.

I see Geldof as a singer/songwriter of the top order when he puts his mind to it. In The Long Grass is the best proof of that. Since then, he has only released four albums in twenty years. Only on Vegetarians of Love and Sex, Age & Death has he hinted that he can still write great songs.

It is to his credit he hasn't toured as The Boomtown Rats and done the holiday camp circuit, but with such a limited roster of songs from the last twenty years, that is probably all people would want from him.

What do journalists know?
