Just checked discography on the Rats' site and it backs up my theory.
Image is and the description is "A Christmas message to all members of the Official Boomtown Rats Fan Club in Dec '81.
It was recorded whilst doing the dutch version of Top of the Pops.
Includes the Rats doing a few bars of 'Silent Night'."
Did learn at same time that Dun Laoghaire was on clear as well as yellow/red/green though. Example of 'label'
They did Never In a Million Years for Dutch tv in late 1981, when that song was their then current single so presumably it was recorded as Suss states. Never In A Million Years was a minor hit in the Netherlands, the Dutch having impeccable taste of course.
I always wondered what it was with those 'flexi singles'. They always look so cheap as if proper or even cheap vinyl would be a waste of money. Alternatively one can think of them as 'new technology' 1981 style.
It would be good to hear it if it is indeed the Christmas greetings and a few bars of Silent Night. Hope someone puts it up on YouTube sometime.
Sorry about that. Yeah ur right it was the xmas greeting. The Dun laoghaire was a free flexi single with one of the top mags of the time. I have been a fan form the time I seen the boomtown rats on the last, late shown why back in 77 God it was funny geldof even in them days was so in your face and i had never heard anyone talk like that before. Coming from ireland myself you just did not do thing's like that. Not in them days anyway. That's why when they made it big and came nome to play Dublin the top dogs wuold not let them Shame really
If you get the chance you should pop along to The Village (beside Whelans) on Wexford St D2 0n 7 Dec. Oringial drummer Simon Crowe and guitarist Garry Roberts keep the legend alive and Bob Bradbury does a good job on the vocals, and Darren Beale is a superb young guitarist.
Certainly worth a night out. I had my doubts about a line up without Bob Geldof but this version does a pretty good job. Was over to see BG in concert in London and the Rats in Wales recently and both concerts were pretty good. Hopefully as it's near to Christmas the Rats will get a full house at the Village, bringing it all back home.
Was reading about that. should be a good ,nite not got to see the new line up yet, apart from youtube. Got to see the BTR's at the top of there game in 79. Then again in 85. seen geldof live 4 time all in Ireland Dublin/Belfast. The rats i seen in Belfast. even after all the years that have gone by, not a day goes by without me putting on one of the album's Some great song's a very over looked band in my opinion, and the press at the time were not very nice to them.

As if to demonstrate, here's your first posts and ironically they're about Dun Laoghaire. Except, you were wrong pal!
But isn't that the nature of all forums like this, where a variety of opinions / statements will be advanced? Where they are subjective, they will differ but that doesn't make any of them right or wrong, just a difference of opinion. But if someone says Mondays was number one in 1982 for 6 weeks, that is factually incorrect and it is correct to point that out.
This is why it can be dangerous to get into politics and religion. Everyone thinks they're right and will even be prepared to bomb other people into their belief system.
