Well we made it to London, and survived 2 days of driving around, on the wrong side of the car AND the wrong side of the street! We arrived at Heathrow at 7AM on Tuesday morning, and rented a car to go visit the country side. After a few too many going around on the roundabouts and a few close call almost going the wrong way on the road (word of the day: LEFT!) we made it to the pretty little village of Lacock. It was just like traveling back in time 400 years. Well except for the cars. It was nice and quiet, just what we needed after the long trip. The next day we got an early start through the backroads to admire the countryside. We visited Stonehenge, which was amazing. Then we made our way to Rita's place. Our driving adventure was not over though; we still had to bring the rental car back. Armed with lousy directions, we effectively managed to get lost in the fog. Thankfully Rita got us out of trouble with the help of a patient Avis employee. We were more than happy to return our little car.
We're now getting ready to visit Windsor. Maybe we'll get a glipse of Sir Elton John's wedding preparations, hee!
Oh, I forgot to mention: I tried that marmite stuff. Yep, it's as vile as it looks! I quite enjoy the tea though.
Hey glad to hear you got here safely and so far so good. Marmite's good, tea's awful Is it colder or warmer here for you? Enjoy your day at Windsor and see you later
I wouldn't dare drive in Canada or anywhere where you drive on the wrong side of the road, I'm bad enough in the UK!
No, the cars come in the right direction! This is how it should be LOL
Wait until you get back home and try and cross roads, that's the really confusing bit. I'm not too good at left and right at the best of times, but trying to cross at home after coming back from Bulgaria was weird, I just couldn't work outwhere I was supposed to look
If noone has any objections, I'd post the photo of Jules/Rita/MJ that I took last night...
Also, after getting to London this afternoon, we embarked on our own (Rita, we MISSED you!) We managed to do quite a lot! We went from Richmond straight to the hotel, and checked in. They didnt have a room available at the time with broadband, so we checked our luggage and took off again the London Underground. (I must say, its IS quite easy to use)
First, we took off across town on the District Line, to Embankment, then took the Northern line all the way to Chalk Farm to go to the Camden Market. Wow! What a mass of human beings they had there! Very interesting place.
After walking our feet off, we decided to come back, but make a detour: We went and found Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross! (MJ has a bruise on her forhead where she tried to get on the train to Hogwarts... nasty sight really)
We then got back on the Underground, and came back to the hotel to settle in for the night with some fresh bread and chicken bought from the supermarket beside our hotel...
Thanks so much Steve & MJ for sharing your stories & photo - I am really enjoying reading your anecdotes That's awesome that you're all meeting up & having a good time!
but also, oh my god...how strange it is to see how people really look after having had your own image of them for...well, since I joined thanks for posting!
