Stunning. Never heard this before. Shades of IOW to come?

I'm not that keen. It certainly is interesting, but the vaguely calypso nature feels a bit off. The chorus seems very half hearted and it seems they were trying to maybe explore a reggae feel. The Fiacra Trench string arrangement for me is much better, but we have to realise that this version was a work in progress.

Geldof sounds very nasal, and with a bit  of an affected punk snarl. It all just goes to show how songs can change over a short period, also how lyrics can change as well. The Late Last Night demo was brilliant- so it is possible to have a brilliant demo and completed song at the same time, never mind live versions.

Alternate versions of Late Last Night and Joey were also part of those sessions.   They were done sometime early in 1979 before the Wainman production.

Found that Late Last Night version Noel on another website and it is excellent as is Joey. In fact all 3 versions are very good in my view and it is great to still, in 2013, come across such previously 'hidden' Boomtown Rats gems.
