You will be able to hear the repeat of last saturdays room 19 show in the next couple of days on the toginet player, or from bobgeldof.com. we ran a competition to win two tickets to the Chagstock Festival in Devon, and we made the question so ridiculously easy to encourage people to enter. If you would like to enter, email the answer to the question to tina@bobgeldof.com
The question is:
The Boomtown Rats were the first Irish band to have a No 1 hit single in the UK with:
A I Dont Like Mondays
B Rat Trap
C Banana Republic
Only enter if you can use the tickets for the festival to see the Boomtown Rats and Billy Bragg on 20th July 2013.

Funny you never hear much about the first Uk band to have number one hit in Ireland . Had to look this up. The first offical charts were compiled in October 1962 and Elvis Presley was the first number one with She's Not You. The first British band to reach no1 was The tornadoes with Telstar, written by Joe Meek, the famous producer. All a bit before my time!
however i'm not sure i want to travel all the way down to bloomin devon to watch billy boring bragg or the rats for that matter, too much travelling, time and expense i'm afraid for a days outing.
btw i confess! i hold my hands up in admission!!! I CANT REMEMBER WHAT BRAGG SOUNDS LIKE so i dont actually know if hes boring or not, having said that if he had made any kind of lasting impression on me surely i would know what he sounds like........ in fact i confess to an ex boyfriend from when i was in my teens used to call him billy boring bragg and as an easily influenced youngster i decided he must be boring...... and so never sought his music out.......... yeh well anyway i spose i should check out some of his music, i might even find i like it........
btw! I discovered that i really quite like BLUR recently!!!!!!! WOOHOO!
Billy Bragg: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbddqXib814 Not so boring. Give it a go, think you might appreciate it. And another: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlkXQm7tSCY
Yes it's too much travelling, but we don't know how many times we will see the Rats again, so would be worth it.

I'm thinking that about every date so far. Even the one I had intended to attend is bugg3red up with the afternoon flight to Cork no longer on the schedule. Devon looks most likely as it is a straightforward car ride/train.
Billy Bragg is ok in small doses. A New England is perhaps his most well known song, even if it's the Kirsty MacColl version.
Only just discovering blur. Better late than never.
Billy Bragg is ok in small doses. Most of his music is left wing politics, if you like being lectured to about class and unfairness in society. Can be a bit boring, especially when just playing an acoustic guitar. He immortalised Shoeburyness in a song called A13 (Trunk road to the sea) so he does have a sense of humour.
For all you latecomers to Blur welcome. Always rated them back in the day. Fave Blur songs are Tracy Jacks, This Is A Low and M.O.R The mockney thing is a bit irritating though.
My current Britpop revival is listening to Supergrass' album In It For The Money. Really good band, good memories of the nineties.
Re Rats in Devon I am looking forward to going. It's a change of scene, and something to look forward to and it is the original line up after 26 years.
