With the upcoming dates in Oz, IOW, Cork and Devon does anyone have a favourite song to open the set. For me it would be Neon Heart, I don't know why but the opening chords are classic Rats and it's a great song to start off with, followed perhaps with Like Clockwork and She's Gonna Do You In.
Ive always liked wind chill factor as an opener, maybe because they opened with that on the surfacing tour and it was the first gig id seen, but neon heart would be good too. The rats(roberts & crowe) opened with neon heart and it worked well.
Whilst Neon Heart is a great song it's a bit too pedestrian for me to be an opener. Think DtR must have been at bar supping up as well cos I can't remember a G&S gig that didn't start with Mary of the 4th Form .
I'd actually like a song like Blind Date, or any that's fairly fast and brings in one instrument after another - 'introducing the band'. Do You In or, agree with DtR, Wind Chill Factor -0 for similar reasons.
Assuming a recognised song works better for a bigger audience, then Mary works for me, but perhaps first choice would be Someone's Looking At You, building up fairly slowly then getting everyone singing, shouting back and generally bouncing.
I think that Close as You'll Ever Be or Drag Me Down would be good openers,...the former a R & B laced "in your face" song and the latter in my opinion the best song on the Rats' last album
