Support Band Apply for October/November- The Carte Blanche https://soundcloud.com/the-carte-blanche - What do you think?

The Carte Blanche are a new London punk rock band seeking to support The Boomtown Rats on their upcoming UK tour. I have included a Soundcloud link to the recently recorded EP A Southern Saga which chronicles working class life in the South of England. We consider the Boomtown Rats to be highly innovative in terms of songwriting and performance and their stage presentation has largely provided the inspiration for our own. I have also attached my recently submitted a 10,000 book proposal about Bob Geldof to Omnibus Press which is in the process of being considered for publication.

Link to new material-
Personal appearance on US TV- CBS The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson-

It would also be possible for us to perform acoustic renditions of the songs instead of a full band arrangement if this would be more useful.

Thank you for your attention- it would be the personal fulfilment of a lifetime to perform before a band of such pedigree.

Had a very quick listen and first impression is catchy and a bit reminiscent of Ten Pole Tudor.

Not sure of title as two links played same track for me but whatever the song is it's a total copy of Breaking Out from Shock Treatment, just with new lyrics. Presumably that's acknowledged and Richard O'Brien has sanctioned it?

Compare at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kIZSv3MJnM

Will listen further and reserve judgment. Thanks for posting.

It's a homage. And all has been agreed

I like this idea.  We will audition all comers and decide who we'd like to see smile

Re Carte Blanche-I would say sounds like typical 'second division' type Peel session the 1977-81 era. Sounds a bit formulaic, full of counting, vocals not distinctive enough when most good punk type singers tend to stand out. Certain oi type punk feel, a lot of these bands sound very, very similar.

Lyrical concerns also a bit predicable. Overall sound is well dated, sounding like some lost tape from the late seventies. Might sound at home is a punk type venue with a few beers down.

Don't worry I've never been in a band in my life, or written a song so my opinion is just trying to be honest. I have listened to loads  different types of music over the years and you get to be able to sort the wheat from the chaff, at least in terms of forming my own attitude and tastes.

I wouldn't have any particular problem seeing Carte Blanche supporting the Rats. I did have a listen to the band Fred ,from Cork who are supporting the Rats on 5 July and was really impressed by them.

I suggested to someone that a local band from each area would be a good way to go ie London support band for Roundhouse gig, Manchester band for Manchester etc.

Anyway good luck Carte Blanche- just trying to give honest opinion and I did listen to all four songs, though one was repeated twice.smile

I think the Cork band Fred are pretty good, was really surprised and glad I bothered to listen. Look forward to seeing them tomorrow. Guys on the Cork music forum were right, and  I am always glad to discover new bands, though Fred have been around for about ten years.

I'll give my second vote to Carte Blanche.

I really like the music. It's fresh, raw and energetic. I hope Bob remembers he had to bang on doors toget his career started and gives The Carte Blanche a chance. If they can put on a good show too then it would be a great night for all! Give them some support eh! We can create our own "Boomtime Spring Revolution"

Thanks for all the comments. We really appreciate how honest and constrictive they've been. :) We are going to work really hard on some new material and hope you'll be kind enough to listen and comment again

Anyone know who the "Special Guests" are?

I think I will go straight to the Roundhouse on the night as there are no decent pubs nearby, so it'd be good if the special guests were special.
