U2 fans?

I have just heard the tragic news that U2 are never going to tour again. I've only seen them once and desperately hoped to get to see them again. I'll just have to treasure my memories. I'll have to think of another way to get to meet Bono too

I know that there are a number of fellow U2 fans around here. What do you think?

http://www.contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.nsf/mndwebpages/u2%20to%20quit%20touring.

They say they can't top their current performance?? I'm sure they could equal it. So the Rolling Stones can do it at their age, why can't U2?

Tragic news?  I'd say you've read a quote taken out of context.  BTW - tickets for Hawaii go on sale in 45 mins.  If you believe it's the end, I'd say get your cedit card ready.

They say no more after the current trips. I couldn't afford a trip to Hawaii!!

I wouldn't be surprised though if they made this announcement and kept doing 'come back tours'. Not unknown with big performers. I will just have to hope it isn't the end of the road. Or not believe what I read - or is that going into denial...

There is nothing on U2.com about it.

Supposing that after the Vertigo tour is finally over, they do quit. How would they justify charging for full membership of U2.com? I've never joined but it seems to me the main benefit it obtaining priority tickets (fiascos aside). The other benefits wouldn't justify the fee. I guess they'd have to send out more 'free' merchandise???

Here's the link to the Rolling Stone article from which those quotes were taken.

Seems to me The Edge is talking about the end of the Vertigo tour.....but I'll ask him next time I see him.

Yes I see what you mean. How typical is that of the press??!! Stirring it as usual. We'll just have to wait and see. But it does seem that they are talking about Vertigo looking at the whole article.

Seriously though, it will be a miracle if I make it to Hawaii.  I'll check later today to see if I have the frequent flier miles.   If not, and there is no divine intervention, the ticket's gonna be sold.  The ticket was by far the easiest and least expensive part of the whole thing....

Hawaii will be a massive fanbase party, even bigger than Vegas (more of the international crowd is showing up), and I will be sad to miss it.  Plus an unsubstantiated rumor is circulating that the tech crew will be the support band....*sigh*

Prays for divine intervention.  Is there a God/dess?  (BTW - the Hawaiian Ticket Goddess is named Laka.  But now I must pray to the Hawaiin God/dess of cash money...)

Jules, this is for you:

Posted in the middle of the night by someone friendly with the band:

Don't worry, I'll still ask Adam when I see him next (if I can keep my eyes off his grass skirt).

Thought I'd pass this on:

I've heard from a Portugese friend who was watcing a TV show last night about the most sexual animal in the jungle, the Bonobo chimp.  Apparently, not only is the Bonobo constantly getting busy,  but these little sex machines have 98% of the same genetic material as humans.

Compare & contrast:

rofl! "Bonobo", the name alone... *giggle*

Bonobo, Bono Bo, Bono Beaux...

(BTW, at a first glance I though Bono was shouting at the baby...)

It's a perfect name! And Bono is very Beau!!

Bono claims to have sex marathons - 98% sex machine, the comparison is probably spot on then.

Hi Jules, just a note to let you know when I was renewing my U2 membership it stated that it no longer gave priority when booking tickets after what happened last year. It said they were looking at finding a new way of distributing tickets. As for U2 quitting touring I doubt that is true as I have heard Bono giving interviews saying they are starting work on a new album as soon as this tour finishes & that they do plan on touring again...

As one who has never managed to get to see U2 perform live, I'm glad to hear that I might still have a chance!

Despite all my best efforts, I've never been able to buy a ticket to a U2 gig. And I just get outbid on ebay (which I just think of as a modern form of scalping and disapprove of anyway). Having said that, even purchasing at several times their face value, tickets off ebay, would be cheaper than flying to Hawaii!!!

Really loved the monkey pix!

Yeah its near impossibe to get tickets. I was lucky to get them for Slane & I was a member of the website so I pre ordered for Croker. Think next time will be an over night que... I bought a bootleg copy of the gig in Croker a couple of weeks ago. It brought back good memories, nearly as good as Bobs gig in dec.. I don't exactly agree with bootlegs  but since the band aren't gonna release it it was all I could do..

I was very lucky to be able to get the ticket I had last year for Twickenham. I hadn't tried to buy one - I thought it would be impossible. It was by chance that I had an email conversation with Rita and discovered she had a spare!! So major thanks to Rita for that. I hope to get to see them again sometime. Seen once and you're addicted...

The Music Rising T shirt Edge was wearing at the Grammys will be made available for purchase shortly.  I'll post the info when I hear.  It's a charitable organization whose aim is to raise funds to get instruments back in the hands of musicians who lost everything in Hurricane Katrina.

Nice one, I'll definately buy one of those. I think its a nice gesture from the Edge. It was great to see U2 get 5 grammys.

Tonight's Sao Paulo Brazil concert will be broadcast on SKY TV with Globo International at 22:20 tonight.  Of course, I have no idea whose 22:20 they mean, but I'd assume Sao Paolo time.  You're on your own for the time zone conversion.

Well....I might be beginning to understand your point of view, but I still don't share it (Not yet, anyway.  Who knows what the future may bring.).  At the moment, I'd still rank Bono as my least favorite member of that band.

Recently, there have been all manner of U2 goodies revealed via youtube uploads.  Should I post more links?  You know I kinda hate turning this place into a U2 board....but....  the "Happy St Patrick's Day, America!" clip is fun, as are several other really old ones....there's also a long TV interview that aired in Australia recently which has been posted in 2 parts.....

There's an ancient tv commerical on youtube, soundtrack courtesy of the Rolling Stones....that's definitely worth a look!

Anyone who's got a subscription to U2.com should log in and check subscriber's/general.  Probably in an effort to keep the natives from getting too restless while the band is relatively inactive, Zootician (moderator) has been posting links to classic rare videos.  He usually doesn't keep anything specific up for too long....    At the moment there's the fairly short "Making of All I Want Is You" and the entire Vertigo show from Sao Paolo, as originally broadcast live on Brazilian TV (long, and split into five parts).   If I smoked, I'd need a cigarette after New Year's Day, and The Fly (at the least).  Although there's not nearly enough Adam, it's still MUCH better direction than the Chicago DVD.

Finally, today's personal find - as you may know, some U2 fans put together a nonprofit which raises money and builds wells in Africa ("The African Well Fund"), and every year there's a "Build A Well For Bono's Brithday" fundraiser.  This year, a bunch of fans have donated photos which are being auctioned on eBay.    Here's the eBay link to a searchable gallery of all 92 photos.

So...this morning when I was browsing thru the pictures....I found this:   http://pages.towson.edu/romans/awf/babette/051705_080_U2.jpg

May 17, 2005, Meadowlands, New Jersey.  A last minute Ticketmaster release, some GA tickets, off I went for a full day / evening of BIG FUN.  Find the blonde in the white T shirt directly to the right of Bono's shoe, that's my friend Noreen.  A Peruvian fan we met on line (she's shooting pictures here) is to Noreen's right.  And I, blocked by security, am to her right.   Go ahead, hate me for being that close.   MUUUAAAAHHHAAAHHAAA  (Now I'm trying to get a bunch of people to chip in so we can win the photo for Noreen and raise $$ for the fund at the same time.)
