Was Indifference a chart hit?

According to Everyhit Bob's Great Song of Indifference reached no 15 in the British charts in June 1990. I have a hazy memory of this period(for many reasons!), but cannot recall the song doing that well, nor even getting into the Top 30.

Surely if it did that well Geldof would have been on TOTP performing it. Can anyone confirm how the song did in the charts, and is there an official historical British Charts website than I can consult to find out?

Everyhit is not the official charts but is normally very accurate to within a few positions.

Bob has referred to it being a hit, along with This is is the World calling. Also it reaching chart teens. Other than the words of the man himself and a very vague recollection I have no other evidence .

Yes it did indeed reach number 15 in  early July 1990, according to the Official Chart Company. I hadn't realised it did this well, always thought it was just widely played by dj's, without reaching the charts.

Happy Days - I was in my early 20s and went to the Radio 1 Roadshow in Southport where Simon Mayo I think played at as the last song. I think it had gone down two places to 17, but had had loads of airplay so lots of people were joining in, aided and abetted by Mayo ('if you know the dance moves, you can join in at this point').

It definitely got TOTP play when at 25 the week before, which helped it up to its peak of 15.

Here's Nicky Campbell and the chart rundown via YT, Bob at 6:10:

and the Chart Show from ITV includes a small clip at 22:20:

I don't think Geldof got to perform the song 'live', in studio on TOTP. I believe the only showed the video, but maybe I'm wrong. Still getting to number 15 in 1990 actually meant selling  some records.

It sure did, only the 2nd of his singles to get into the top 30 other being This is the world calling Indifference As you have pointed out to 15. He did get a lot of air play Not sure why his singles did not take off, maybe they did see him as a singer at the time?

I think the video was shown on TOTP rather than a studio performance, but You Tube will probably reveal all in the tears to come!

I was a rep at the time in Solihull, and Radio 1 would play it frequently for weeks at all times of the day. Must have been on their A list. Jakki Brambles and Simon Mayo thought it was brilliant.

They were right of course!
