The article is basically one of those marketing demographic profiling "hype" reports targeting the up and coming wealth socio economic bracket in Ireland and the never agers that go along with it.  It's based on

David Mc Williams' book 'The Pope's Children' published by Gill&MacMillan is in shops now. Visit

www. davidmcwilliams.ie - and reads:

"Like fifty-something Bob, they are not middle aged, they are middle youth.

They wear combats, parkas and trainers.

They receive I-pods for Christmas.

Their CD collection (or downloads) is remarkably similar to that of their children.

Geldof Generation mummies often weigh less than their daughters.

They refuse to grow old and frankly, why should they? They are healthy, fit and plugged in.

Whereas their parents at fifty-something were slowing down, putting their feet up and thinking about retirement, the Geldof Generation are taking on new projects, getting divorced, changing jobs, logging on and exploring theworld of hemp.

They are environmentally aware, socially concerned and self-absorbed.

They are also rich."

Most of the article is in this vein and associates to Bob's name throughout.

Refreshingly though, it is also portraying Bob as a "younger attitude" 50 something - instead of the usual "Ugly Old Man" crap they usually put on him.  Why they do it that I don't know - but its awful the way people use comments like "Aging rock star, Old rocker, Old Man" etc. as if he's 120 something.

They don't call Old Aging Ugly Tony Blair, or Old aging Michael Douglas, or Old Aging Bono, or Old Aging Sting etc., do they?

So why do it to Bob all the time?  He's gorgeous, fit, Sexy and full of life and vitality.  A charismatic, wise, intelligent and intriguing man who is also very handsome.

I believe the frequent put down is because many people are just basically nasty inside, and they psychologically feel inferior to him perhaps even on a subconscious level so then try to find any means they can to stick the knife in and bring him down a peg or two.

This attack is quite common against people who are exceptional AND attractive, and have the personality and heart to match.  Others can't cope with what appears to them as "too perfect" as they then face their own inadequacies.  Too lazy to work on themselves and heal the internal they band together and mock the one who intimidates them.

So good on David Williams at least in this article for not following in the usual Old Age put down vein.
