Is there a box set coming out? Yes, picture below. Also see inside the Back to Boomtown CD.
Is this new, or just re-releasing stuff in original format ? A re-release but details are fuzzy. The best case scenario is it is the original albums with no-remastering in the original track order (highly desirable), worst case it is the six remastered albums from 2005 (couldn't care less as I have two copies of each and the remastering is a bit suspect).
And there is an ep coming out in October with the new songs?? That seems to be the case, but there are no details on it apart from this thread.
I wouldn't want to miss out on new stuff or any extras, but reluctant (unlike some!) to spend more money on what I've already got. But they are in a nice box, and look quite good with what I assume are cardboard covers. As for spending money on what I already have, when you have ten copies of A Tonic for The Troops another makes little odds. Fortunatley I pre-ordered on Amazon and am only paying £15 (actually £10 as I got a free £5 amazon gift voucher) rather than the current £19 they are selling for.
Maybe tied in with concerts in October, so a CD might be on the cards. Cant see a Vinyl record being printed. I dont think the Rats ever had coloured vinyl let alone picture disc (except Dave)

Not many CD singles these days. 7" singles are far more likely. Franz Ferdinand release singles on vinyl and nowt else. Pulp also released After You on vinyl and download but no CD single.
Only recent CD single by any credible band was Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? which Arctic Monkeys released as a one track CD, but that was an exception....
ARCTIC MONKEYS SINGLES
Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? Vinyl/CD
Do I Wanna Know? Vinyl Only
R U Mine? Digital Only
Black Treacle Vinyl/Digital
Suck It And See Vinyl/Digital
The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala Digital**
Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair Vinyl/Digital
My Propeller Vinyl/Digital
Cornerstone Vinyl/Digital
Crying Lightning Vinyl/Digital
** Very few vinyl copies exist as they all got burnt in the fire at the Sony Distribution centre
Bands don't even release digital singles too often these days.
I'm getting confused - is there a box set coming out, is this new, or just re-releasing stuff in original format. And there is an ep coming out in October with the new songs?? Thanks for clarifying, ArrGee, was just getting a bit lost, as there seems so much going on. Very interesting to see the amazon reviews - largely complimentary apart from one: "Bob & Pete, back with the two that have been touting an awful Boomtown Rats tribute act round dingy back clubs & pubs for years." But I guess those of us who have actually seen the gigs would totally disagree.
So a nice box and a cardboard cover? You really know how to sell a product! But I guess I could start raiding my money box - or just plan my letter to Santa - only 085 days 06 hours 10 mins and 24 seconds ...

I would totally disagree. I saw them at The Robin in Bilston and the venue was not dingy - great atmosphere in fact. I also strongly disagree with the review, although I can see faintly where Mark Boyle is coming from. If it's the same Mark Boyle who posted on here from '05 to '08, then he has a good knowledge of relationships between the members after Mondo Bongo etc, but his review is too jaundiced and cynical.

I'm sure it is the same Mark Boyle. Shame he doesn't post any more. For a long time, he was one of the few proper Rats fans who posted here, but how can I possibly forgive him for leaving me with all the bingo wingers? Woof woof.
Actually I and several others walked in disgust because ArrGee was happy to be the poodle of a FAKE Boomtown Rats for old times sake whilst Tina was found out as not having a clue what was happening with Geldof, rendering her whole 'contact with Geldof's management' persona a joke.
Now he's left with a forum five other bingo-wingers at best attend - hope it was worth selling his soul for!
I would dispute "several others" walking out in disgust because I was a poodle. people stopped posting mainly because they hated me! But Scottie came back and I'd like to think we are pretty friendly with each other having met a couple of times in recent years and maybe one day MJ will grace us with her presence again. However, I won't hold my breath.
PS Franna, if you are watching, you should let us know. I remember your post about the big smile I'd have if the Rats ever reformed...
Personally, I thought Marks review was spiteful. Surely, the aim of the "review" is to review the Album of songs. Maybe question the need for another greatest hits, or hone in on the new songs or potential for a new album. But to concentrate on the band members and their reasoning to get back together was spiteful. So what if Geldofs sole reason for getting back with Simon and Garry was to boost their coffers, it says a lot about Geldof it true. For what its worth, I think Geldof is true when he says that there are many elements why thy got back together. Cash, partly nostalgia, old friendships, hearing the sound again and maybe lurking in their minds is new material.
Whatever the bands relationship was back in 1981 has no bearing on 2013. Love and grudges change over time.

Without Simon and Garry doing what they did in the previous four years, I doubt there would ever have been a reunion. Geldof has stated that the others need the ca$h and he doesn't, but that is only a small part of the reason they got back together.
Personally, I think Geldof did it because he likes to play in front of big audiences and be the centre of attention.
The reissues and the hits CD are a money making exercise, but to be fair there has been some effort put into repackaging. I haven't bought the new hits CD as the two new tracks can be downloaded and that's what I suspect many who have all the CDs will probably buy outside the obsessive completists. Of all the compilations released, the 2005 Best of is still the best, even if not quite perfect.
PS I am an obsessive completist, but as I expect the hits CD will eventually end up at my local Oxfam or on eBay/Amazon for a penny + p&p, I'm in no rush....
When I Don´t Like Mondays was released in 1994 from Loudmouth it came as a 7" white vinyl with Born To Burn and Do The Rat on the b-side.Dave was released as a clear vinyl with a ticket in it.Would be great if they could release a new picture disc.

That 1994 release of Mondays was one of the best CD releases. I got all three discs and didn't originally bother with Loudmoth (sic) .
The other really good CD single was Geldof's Crazy, which once you had skipped past the title track had three superb cuts from their first Peel session.
I think that's all the Rats CD singles bar imports. And expensive one track promos.
