I really struggle with that assertion of sleeping on the streets etc. Maybe after a late party once or twice, but this was a guy with a family home and seemingly plenty of friends. Tells a good story as ever.

Also, given his propensity for telling the same tales, about the abattoir etc etc, how come we've never heard this one before? Perfect story for the young rebel of 77 I'd have thought.

He can do this on lots of subjects; his age used to be given as 31 when 34 etc, I've seen chart positions for songs differ from one interview to the next, singles sold to get to no.1, charity money raised varies, lives lost/saved varies, but I don't think it's done maliciously so to speak. There was that awful picture in 'Is that it?' of the Tufnall squat; he's obviously had some hard times from say '68/69 to '74/75ish but few hardened rough sleepers get to Canada/Spain etc etc...! It will have been the odd few nights here and there.

Still admire him more than any other person on this planet. And off the planet, as will soon be the case!

I don't love him any less, just know who he is. He did actually say to me once that his stories are based on a truth.
