Seen any good films lately?

I saw two good films on DVD this week.


The first was "Crash", an ensemble piece about a large number of LA folk who interact on one fateful day. Very well scripted and quite easy to follow (a challenge for pieces of this nature), with a few literally heart-stopping moments.


The second was "The Taming of the Shrew" which was one of the recently televised BBC Shakespeare Retold series. (I'd managed to miss this one somehow.) It has a bit of an odd ending in a kind of anti-feminist sense but was otherwise really, really entertaining. Rufus Sewell stars and, even in drag, it would have to be said, that man is sex on legs. Shirley Henderson plays the shrew, and is indeed a very scary woman. I did enjoy the other Shakespeare adaptations in this series but this one was very light-hearted and fun. Guaranteed to put a smile on your face.


Okay, someone else must have seen something good this week.........Let's hear about it.......!

4 weddings and a funeraland LORD OF THE RINGS.best film ever.actually hidalgo is a really good film but not many people have seen it

The last film I watched was Hotel Rwanda. It brought tears to my eyes.. My copy of Geldof In Africa on DVD arrived today so looking forward to watching it over a bottle of wine Saturday night. I'll post my review on monday..

music mania heres a tip:when watching the deleted scenes, don't just 'play all'.it misses out some really funny bits which only come up if you select the scenes individual (i'm talking about all the 'see you next week' things which are put in between but they don't show on 'play all')some very funny clips there

If you want to see a real tear jerker watch 'Angela's Ashes'. It is an excellent film. I've got the book, which I've yet to read.

It's Irish setting must appeal to any Geldof fan.

Interesting.  I haven't seen the film, in fact I've heard it was pretty bad.  I have read the book, though - it's brilliant.

Saw Angela's Ashes a few months ago, Jules, and I thought it was pretty good.  Though the time setting was a few decades before Geldof's time, I couldn't help but think of him (BG) as a kid as Frank was going through his childhood experiences in Ireland...


Haven't read the book though...

Fran you need to watch it to decide for yourself. But I thought it was a good film, and yes I thought of Bob while and his experiences. The book is sitting on my book case waiting for me to get round to it.

Thanks I'll take note of that. Unfortunately I'm working tomorrow til 11pm so original plan is gone. Might leave it til next week as I want to watch it all in one go.


In regards people talking about Angelas Ashes. I've read both that book & the sequel 'Tis. Both were excellent & I picked up his new book last week but It will be a while before I get a chance to read it but when I do I'll post my opinion. For anyone who did enjoy Angelas Ashes I'd highly recommend reading Pennys Apples by Bill Cullen. Its along the same lines but set in Dubin..

another tear jerker but excellent film is Jack.robin williams stars as a child who grows so fast that by the times he's 10 he looks 40.i've not seen it in years but it made me cry when i was 10.

Another film which made me weep was Schindler's List. Kind of a fitting time to mention it. I think everyone should watch this film., it is a very important film.

I have just seen a realy good cartoon. You have probably heard of it: All Dogs Go To Heaven. I am not religous, but I love this cartoon.
