Don't get the rats playing here? If it should be anywhere in Scotland it should be Glasgow

Well they are doing Glasgow, or did you mean it should only be Glasgow?

Glasgow, Dundee and Aberdeen. Bob has not  played Scotland solo for 8 years. We deserve more than 1 on this tour. Last time Perth 2005, where I first saw him sing solo and Rats stuff.  Dundee and Aberdeen are selling well I believe. Got an email from Fat Sams saying they are still rebuilding the website it is def on. Hoping my treatment will finish next week, so I can maybe do both D and A.. For years, I have travelled round England at my own considerable expense, so he is due me one, or two, or three. I have also been nagging him for a while.  They have done 3 Irish, in N and S, Cork and Dublin and Belfast. So we are QUITS!!!!!

Good link. Interesting to read the Dundonians recollections of the Rats in '79.

Confusion over times, ticket displaying one time and Fat Sams saying another, much later. Will try to find out.

Just saw the 'Rats' play Dundee last night and they were incredible! So glad we got this chance after being a fan all these years. My wife nearly got to see them in '79 but wasn't allowed as she was only 12 then

Possibly the reason they played Dundee was because the replacement guitarist, who is a great choice I have to say, is a Dundonian? They seemed to genuinely love Dundee and had a great time here, so I like to think that's why they chose to come here.

I was deaf for a couple of hours after. Very loud in a smallish venue. Great audience, bouncing, dancing, even did  a bit myself. (both). Bob did really well despite having hardly any voice left. Enjoyed seeing Suss doing his disco dancing lol. Set was the same as others. No new ones. One thing I did find out is that Garry Smon and Darren will not play as the Rats any more. After this, there will be no point. People will see it advertised and think it is the whole band. No idea what is next.

If Garry and Simon aren't in it, it will be Bob solo doing the Rats. Weird.

No, I meant they will not tour as the new Rats, as they have been doing for the last couple of years. It will be the full group or nothing. As well as Bob solo of course. He has 2 dates booked, so far, India and Dubai

Couple of years? It's about 7 months isn't it. People can change their minds, Bob was 'never' going to do it. We will just have to wait and see and hope. Solo is great but not Dubai and India please. Maybe we will get some German dates though.

The way of thinking is that if people see The Boomtown rats advertised , how will they tell the difference between the full band and the newer Rat?

It's like many bands or reunite or members leave and new ones take their place, they are the same band at their core. Look at Fleetwood Mac, they've been through all sorts of members. I believe there is band which has no original members but still plays uner the original members (name escapes me). Thin Lizzy also had various guitarists. Queen are still going without Freddie.

These Rats don't know what they're talking about . They are onto something brilliant and want to throw it away, idiots lol. One more tour next year, whilst they are doing well and see how it goes again. Maybe dates more spread out might be better for the voice and keep them from being vulnerable to colds and throat infections lol.

Don't think I am explaining it right. If the Boomtown Rats tour again, Garry, Darren and Simon of course will be in the band. But they wont  tour as the new Rats, without Pete and Bob. . That group seems to be dead in the water.

I would disagree that there is no point.  From 2008 - 2012, I saw them four times, had some great nights out and made new friends to boot.   I don't really care who the singer is, these songs should be played live and even before Bobby Boomtown returned, they were a superb live band.

That said, the audiences never really grew over the four years and after the Blackheath gig about twelve months ago I thought that was the end.

Shame if it is all over for the Rats.

I can see where they are coming from.  After this tour people would expect to see Bob as frontman. Don't know how they could advertise as the Boomtown Rats any more.

Yes, I kind of feel sad for them. Just hope they go on with the full line up for a while longer, even if they don't do full tours and appearances are more sporadic. But I hope they do tour again.

Afraid that was Geldof's running joke. Darren was variously introduced as Bristolian, from Nottingham, a Geordie etc etc etc, and last night he was from Aberdeen smile

Did the trick though as it usually got the biggest cheer.

I only heard him do that it Bristol. Darren was shaking his head and I was wondering what he was going on about . Now I understand. Darren deserves a huge cheer. So does Alan, he seems to get lost in the back there, sometimes in a puff of smoke.

Some really hospitable local fella in the Wetherspoons saw I was drinking red wine and not content with buying me a glass came back with a second bottle for me. I wasn't dancing - it was just my legs giving way on a highly frequent basis.

Darren is from Cardiff, or at least his band is, and his girlfriend has either had a baby or expecting one very soon. Says he has responsibilities now.

He was in a band called The Caves, who come from Swansea. Maybe Darren is from Cardiff,as he is a football fan and would hardly say he was from Swansea if he was from the Welsh capital??

Interesting to have  Irish ,English and Welsh Rats, no we just need a Scot.smile

Maybe the saxophonist, whose name we can't find, is a Scot

Saxophonist was a guy called Aaron Liddard - see http://www.aaronliddard.com/

Not sure of his origins though smile

Also not sure about Darren being from Cardiff!
