Geldof/Rats Tribute Album
Permalink

I've been thinking that it would be interesting if Geldof/Rats tribute album was recorded. Here are a few of my ideas:

Mondays - Coldplay with Richard Ashcroft
Birthday Suit - Sinead O'Connor or Kate Bush
Looking After Number One - U2
Up All Night (remix) with Eminem
Let it Go - Foo Fighters
Like Down on Me - Radiohead
Diamond Smiles - The Arcade Fire
Great Song of Indifference - Pogues
Mudslide - Radiohead
Someone's Looking At You - Franz Ferdinand
When the Night Comes - Killers

Any Suggestions?

This Is The World Calling-Eric Clapton

Lot of Radiohead!  Agree with Kate Bush, though I think Sleep might be more interesting for her.  And I have no qualms with Franz doing a turn, though Howard Hughes might be a better option.

U2 did perform Neon Heart, and Tori Amos did Mondays. And the Toy Dolls did She's So Modern.  Chixdiggit and The Groovy Ghoulies could also contribute Chronic for the Troops.

The other acts I would have are Razorlight (Mary of the Fourth Form), The Strokes (Never Bite The Hand That Feeds), Happy Mondays (Banana Republic), Massive Attack (Up All Night), James (Eva Braun) and Pulp (Rat Trap). Some very tenious connections to the Rats.

Still Geldof could always do their songs......

How about the Red Hot Chilli Peppers - maybe Banana Republic, wonder what they'd make of that

Iron Maiden doing Mary?

Kate Bush could probably do Fall Down well.

Any track would be good by the Stones.

As for bands who couldn't but would love to have heard:

T-Rex - doing She's gonna Do You In

Thin Lizzy - The Bitter End.

Doin it Right, or My Blues Away by the Stones..

Not sure if they've made it overseas, but the Boston, MA-based band The Dropkick Murphys could do a great "Joey's On the Street Again," methinks.

I think the Kaiser Chiefs could do something good with He Watches It All

Kod this was a great idea. Pity it couldn't have happened in reality after Bob won the Life Time Achievement Award last year. there's enough material here for 2 separate albums - solo and Rats.

That would be hilarious hearing Paul Weller doing a Rats cover!!! Somehow I think it will never happen. If he did it would be flattery...
