Google this and there are 8 wonderful pages to browse compiled around the time of last year's Cork gig.

Top man Noel for fighting the Rats' corner.

Thanks for the compliment Mark. It was the first time the Rats would play in Ireland for over 25 years and I was interested in local opinion in Cork. One of the reasons was that I was unsure it would sell out, or sell in sufficient numbers not to be a failure or disappointment. Yes you have your detractors and nutters on various forums who don't like the Rats, but such is life. One of the guys from the Cork forum was at the meetup and also at the meetup in Dublin.

On the night it was wonderful. Great weather, about 6,000 approx and the very weird feeling of arriving at a 'bit time venue' with all the accompanying rock n roll atmosphere, to pinch myself that it was indeed a Boomtown Rats concert we were going to see. I still can't get over the crowds that turn up-must be very strange for Suss who frankly followed Garry and Simon around to all ends of the country when they were getting a few hundred people. The old thread about 'would a Rats reunion be a success?' makes interesting  reading in retrospect. The phrase 'o ye of little faith' springs to mind.smile

I'm looking forward to Guildford on 18 July. Amazing how after a few weeks off the fever suddenly hits again.

It was wonderful but 6,000?  In a tent with a 4,000 capacity with a few spare seats and a bit of spare room?  I don't think so.  And the previous incarnation would have done very well to get a few hundred.  I'm not sure there were even a hundred at the 100 club.  That said as far as I'm concerned the Barton Rats, the Bradbury Rats and the Boomtown Bob Rats have all been a success simply by turning up and playing the songs.  Even if I did end up rattling around Blackheath Halls with them one night.

Roberts/Crowe incarnation at Cheltenham was very sparse, to say the last. I can't imagine that there was as many as 50. Small venue, a handful of rather drunk people dancing around at the front. We were just behind them. They had plenty of room without annoying anyone else .

Peter Aiken of Aiken Promotions puts the official attendance at 4,200. It just seemed to be more, to my eyes anyway. And I wasn't drinking.smile
