Yes, they are headliners.  All information at http://www.liveatheartlands.com/

Pretty decent weekend with UB40 on Friday night and Happy Mondays on Sunday night.  Provisionally booked a room for the weekend.  Will see how things are going before committing as per usual.

I suppose they may do one before Christmas.  Must admit I was a bit disappointed they didn't return to the tent in Cork this summer.

Yet another superb show. Sound was really good too. Seemed to be able to hear each member very clearly, which I for one can't always claim. Full 90 min set from last tour, so no clues yet if any thing new for next.

Set in some sort of heritage site, complete with a backdrop of those mining structures. Don't know correct name. Pleasant evening weather wise too...always a risk for outdoor mid-Sept.

Nice to see them and stay dry for once smile

Was all set to collect my Harrington order, but a fan came from Melbourne to see them! Seemed only right he should have it.

That said, he'll be halfway home in the time it takes me to train from here (Camborne) to Paddington no

Someone tweeted it was one of the best shows ever.

Yes, met him and stood close by. He was he spirit of Jules holding the barrier at centre stage for about 3 hours before Rats played wink

Fair play to him though, also seeing Kate Bush twice on his visit, plus dashed back first thing today to be back for ELO etc at Hyde Park.

As you'll see from the pics below, Heartlands was a 'unique' venue. By no means full, but maybe 2500 to 3000 there at the business end of the evening? No idea to be honest.

Someone's got to stand guard of that spot at the barrier in my absence .

Pete looks very pleased with himself there.

This review is spot on, especially the most woeful comeback single a band has ever produced.  90 minutes of monumental rock 'n' roll concluded with 5 minutes of garbage. Sounds like a football team close to my heart disbelief

The biggest surprise of the whole weekend was how monumental the Boomtown Rats were for 90 minutes they were the best rock 'n' roll band on the planet.

Concentrating on the early years when they had a punk heart and Springsteen soul, Geldof, Briquette, Roberts, Crowe and a great new guitarist powered out guttersnipe anthems such as Joey's On The Street Again, Someone's Looking At You and She's So Modern.

Geldof was in his element looking every inch the perfect frontman in fake snakeskin suit; lithe and sexy according to my female companion, despite the fact he's now 62.

And, yes, he mouthed off Ireland, the Church, nationalism all got the infamous eff-word treatment.

The run of Mary Of The 4th Form, Looking After No 1 and Rat Trap was as thrilling as it gets. Then there was I Don't Like Mondays a song bigger than the band whose lyrics must have a sadder resonance for Geldof now. It was stunning.

My heart sank, though, when they drew to a close with The Boomtown Rats, the most woeful comeback single a band has ever produced.

The Boomtown Rats was not a single. I don't dislike it, nor do I love it. In its defense Geldof said that he wanted to just write a track that would get the crowd whipped up and shouting 'Boomtown Rats', and it worked to that extent.

The ep was done at the bequest of the record company and most likely was rushed. If the Rats had written a proper single and got it played on the radio because it was worthy of their previous efforts then we would have no complaint. I'm still hoping that the brilliant  comeback can be matched by a half dozen new songs that will seal the bands legacy.

Technically it may not be a single, but as it is the lead track on Ratlife EP with an accompanying video, it is the closest thing you will get to a single these days.  I do dislike it.  Gets me heading up to the bar and shouting for "A Pint of Lager!"

When you consider what precedes that really is something.  IMHO, the only way it could be bettered is if they shoehorned Joey into the finale in the manner Geldof does solo.  Less dicking around on Mary perhaps and also get the sax player to earn his dough.  The Mary/Joey/Rat Trap pre-encore finale of Geldof solo is the best three song run I have ever experienced live. That was worth the ticket price on its own.

I dislike it too. However I really like Back to Boomtown which came in an abridged version,  suggesting some kind of release suitable for radio play.
