Fantastic performance of the above at Wulfrun Hall in the encore together with Diamond Smiles and The Boomtown Rats.

Yes, it was a nice surprise and a great concert!

Apparently Howard Hughes, Joey, Having my Picture Taken and Never Bite were on the setlist originally but dropped according to a copy of the setlist sent out on Twitter. Also Rage replaced Kicks.

No doubt some or all of these will appear on the tour!

I would like to have updates from Suss as to which tracks are played in this slot. It seems we might be in for a few surprises - I hope. That was a very interesting surprise.

Same here Jules, I'm sure he'll keep us informed when he can get on line on his travels!

And yes, it was a very nice surprise. I remember first hearing Rage in 1979 when I bought the Mondays single!

It was great, quite a warm (not too hot) venue but you could feel regular in-blasts of cool air. I saw one lady faint unfortunately but it could have been that snakeskin suit smile

Rats on just after 9pm and finished just after 10.30pm. First night, so Bob's voice good. Eva Braun kicked things off as usual and then the familiar fayre until the Rage surprise which was incredible. The usual inter-song Boomtown banter and the story of the suit etc but you have to remember a significant proportion of the crowd are hearing it for the first time and many find it genuinely amusing on this basis. Drinks were sensibly priced (and essential of course to keep hydrated in the heat!) and I treated myself to a £6 Rats mug. I can sense Arrgee even from this distance, preparing a 'you're the mug' type comment to send me up the M6, but I can't download something to drink coffee out of and I'm happy with it, even if Mr Merch wouldn't give me a discount by way of two for a tenner! It was worth a try though.

Great to meet Jules, Lisa, Melv, Wes and Suss (and various partners etc) all of whom were decent, down to earth, friendly people, but then what else would you expect from Rats fans?! If I've missed anyone out, I'm really sorry but I was introduced to so many people in a short period and I am nearly 50!

Hope to see you all wherever next I or you go; it's a given Suss'll be there of course, so I owe you a drink mate to even things up and I may even buy Ratlife because it's signed vinyl and seemed tempting when seen in the flesh so to speak - although I will need to replace my broken record player to have something to play it on!

Those mugs were going like hot cakes. I bought one. Reevo's brother (that's how Reevo introduced him to me) bought 3. He doesn't drink tea or coffee and doesn't have people round. . Mark asked him how much money he had in him. He said £20. Mark gave him the 3 mugs, took the note and gave the change. A salesman for you lol.

It was good to meet you at last too, Mark L.

Great to meet you - and others - too, and thanks on behalf of everyone for the compliment! smile

It was a really good gig and a wonderful surprise to hear It's All The Rage - love it, even if I still can't make out all the lyrics, never could and even harder now that I'm getting older and my hearing is getting worse hmm  But I love the vibrancy and energy of it and it was great live.  I also "got" The Boomtown Rats anthem at the end of the gig for the first time.  Just thought it sounded good live and seemed to go down really well.  All in all a great gig - probably one of the best, if not the best, I've seen - we stood a bit further back but I probably got a better view of the whole stage and the sound was really good.

Looking forward to the London gig and doing it all again!

To be honest, if the mug looks alright, I'd probably buy one.

I have a bit of a dilemma with Ratlife on vinyl. Would I buy a record I don't like much just so I have all the singles on vinyl?  I don't even buy vinyl singles I like these days like North Sea and Fresh Strawberries from Franz Ferdinand cos I already have the LP and can live without the remix.  I suppose when I actually see it at a gig, I will know.

Having been at the front for every Rats gig, I did stay a bit further back at the roundhouse last year and it definitely sounds better.

Was at the forum last night to see Happy Mondays and I had forgotten how small it is. As long as you are downstairs, you can't be too far from the stage.  If they open them up, the staircases can be the best place to view.  But last night was one of the most pleasant gigs I'd been to in a while. Lots of people dancing, few iPhones and no piss nor puke.

Having My Picture Taken will be played in Cambridge and London, whilst Kicks, never bite the hand that feeds and it's all the rage won't be aired. I guarantee it.

But no Joey! It's not a proper Rats concert if they don't play that.

I have an old Arsenal mug that I always have my coffee in and no one else dares drink from it.  It must always be washed with care. But I fear that one day it will break.  I wish I had bought a dozen of them.

They're nice enough mugs with the emerging,  smiling rat and the band name in Tonic font which looks good. It was washed before first use (a house rule I no longer waste time questioning*) then brought into use for Sunday morning bacon sandwiches and coffee.

* You're generally making coffee with boiling water so any germs are killed? Cuts no ice with Mrs L.

Lisa Bob has supplied the All The Rage lyrics to Jules a while back, with an explanation of the song and why it was written.

That makes it sound like I moved from one partner to the next. Hope Mrs S doesn't read this!

Great first gig that's for sure, and to meet everyone old and new.

Newcastle was exact same set, a little more subdued to start off (sunday night sober factor?) but still rocking by the end.

In Glasgow now, and it's NOT raining. Must be in wrong place.

Maybe it will reappear at another gig. Shame they didn't add in an alternative.

I guess they have to practice Having My Picture Taken ahead of London and Cambridge

I reckon they'll do it at the Forum, it'll be a good excuse to head for the bar.  Just hope I don't get crushed in the stampede.

I suppose it could be worse. They might play Ratlife and Ratified.
