its good for me that this festy is indoors as last summer i had a bit of a melanoma/skin cancer scare...
its ok, got the all clear in the end after they chopped a bit of skin cancer off my back then investigated the lymph nodes in my armpit for signs of the cancer spreading
but it was all clear..... i am cancer-free apparently
but they say you should be careful in the sun
best to stay out of it between 11am and 3pm and the melanoma nurse said to wear sun tan cream even on a dull winter day
its all a bit of a bind, but anyway - i know you probably reading all this and finding it extremely interesting and i'm sure none of you have had any of your own issues to deal with at all........ i am the only one with any crap to have to deal with, of course.
so, i'm sure that....... you have boundless time and energy to feel deeply for me.... because you're fine. all the time. every day.
in other words......... life's a bitch then you die..... so i'm hoping i get to rebellion and have a rollicking good time!!!
guys i'm taking a rain check on this one after all
i'd only want to do a day and evening there and i've worked out with train fares etc. it would cost me a total of 200 squids for one day at a festival and well, i can have a bloody good 3 nights out on that locally, so i've decided against. when i posted i imagined the train fare to be at least half of what it actually is.
Jules, i didn't see anything much more local when i looked but heyho i obviously didnt look properly, i'll take another gander.
Suss, would of been cool to catch up with ya, another time.
Wes, i love a bit of punk. i like classical and opera too. lol.
i'll do ramblin man fair in a couple of months time in maidstone kent cos i've got a couple of freebie tickets for that...... plus its only an hour on the train from my man's place, so that could be pretty cool. alas rats not playing there.
i'll also most likely do a freebie to bluesfest in november at the O2 as well.
could do fairport cropredy for free too but not found anyone with a motor to go for that one...... cropredy is a village just outside of banbury. did b&b last time i went but cost an arm and a leg for basic accomm. they get choc a block booked up that weekend it seems. plus would be a shame to fork out for b&b when i get camping for free....
would love to do a rats gig this year, as i said i'll have a proper gander and see if its poss to work something out.
well guys, have a fabulous long weekend if ya got monday off, i've taken the tues off too, planning a wee trip to hastings and poss bexhill on sea cos my man is a spike milligan fan and spike writes about a war time post in bexhill which was like some sort of communication point that he was based at in the war and visited years later to find his writings still carved into the wall or summat like that...... manfriend wants to check it out if its still there. its different i guess. i want to bexhill some years ago when a mate was sectioned at the psychiatric place there. more like a prison. did my best to get her out, such a backward hell hole it was. she moved on shortly after and is doing well all things considered. so yeh had a fair few trips to bexhill. i remember one evening whilst waiting for the train back to London, there was a freezing cold bite to the air and the wind was viscious...... that's another story though...... someone i met was to have an impact on mine and friends' lives..... lol.... all i will say is its a mad world we live in, the way our paths cross.... of all the choices and paths we can take...... we had to take that one lol. fate maybe..... and destiny. maybe written before we are born..... and yet we have choices, no matter how small they may seem, a decision to do one act can have pretty dramatic effects on lives, ours and those round us.
perhaps some things are kind of written and others open to choice and change of direction, as we see fit to happen.
I'm very glad I caved and got a ticket for this, brilliant day. Goldblade, The Adicts, 999 and The Buzz****s would've made the admission cost worth it without them but the Rats were still definitely the highlight. 20th anniversary of the fest next year so if you like that sort of thing worth keeping an eye on the lineup.
Amongst all the praise and great reviews of this and the rest of the festivals there are loads of complaints about Bob winding the audience up. They think he's being very arrogant 'we're mega, you're crap' kind of stuff. People don't get it. There is even a YouTube of people leaving the Rats at Rebellion complaining. Did you see much of this?
We were at the front to be fair so not really, but people were coming and going from all the acts all day (including half a dozen Stranglers fans who were 'bored' by Hugh Cornwell's set). Milling around afterwards most people were amused rather than annoyed it's a pretty chill crowd but there'll always be some who are looking for an excuse to take the hump with someone like Bob
(Also The Mob started on a separate stage half way through the Rats set who were the headline act for a lot of people)

It is just Bob and his weird humour. Some rather scathing reports from Carfest North. Tried to tell them it was all a joke/stage act, they were having none of it. They were getting rather nasty so I've not bothered trying to defend the Rats again. Leave them to it. Their loss.
You just reminded me of something. I saw the Stranglers in Oxford a few years ago and met and chatted to a fan who followed them everywhere. All bands must have their very own Suss .

I guess the Rats, and particularly Geldof, do stand out from other bands at the festivals they appear in in that respect. I have never seen them as part of a festival, but I can imagine that for a multitude of reasons they are likely to displease a number of people as these festivals attract a wide spectrum of music fan (from Billy Ocean to The Damned). I'm sure there are plenty of acts I'd be pretty scathing about.
There is always a lot of baggage with Geldof that some people don't really get beyond when judging the performance. In the context of the Rats headlining and among their own fans, it all makes sense and I wouldn't want it to be much different, though the snake skin suit must be wearing pretty thin after three years. Still, at least people notice them!
Gripes have been about swearing at family festival and the insults he throws at the audience. They take it all seriously and think it's his ego. They also insist he's high on something and if he isn't that's even worse. They are calling him Nob Geldof!! They also say the Rats are crap. That's a matter of personal opinion, I'm entitled to mine as they are, but these people don't get that either *bangs head against brick wall and gives up*.
One of the people who was being particularly vicious posted about suggestions for other bands to appear at Carfest. I was very, very sorely tempted to put Bob Geldof and the Bobkatz just to light the blue touch paper. On this occasion I refrained, but enjoyed the idea of stirring it. I'll put the wooden spoon away.

Direct quote by Geldof to Blackpool audience (after lauding his own fake snakeskin suit):'you on the other hand are dressed in the f***** uniform of black tee shirts with s*** bands written across the front, except for the ones that say The Boomtown Rats.....'
He probably insulted hundreds of people with that comment and received loud hissing from audience but still he was up for a bit of old fashioned punk like bating which the 'punk' audience didn't seem to like, or even get the humour that Geldof intended.
Watch it all here at the intro to Someones Looking at You.

Think of the laundry bills for that suit, must be pouring with sweat after every gig. He must have a minion employed to take care of it. Like a football team kit manager? same with Garry(the legend's) shirt and Simon s striped top.

Too right! What are they moaning about? Can't see anything wrong with that at all
Have to confess I did have my Rats T Shirt covered last time I saw the Rats only to referred to as Dennis The Menace by Geldof for obvious reasons. Interestingly since then I saw a lot of red/black hooped jumpers/T-shirts at the Julian Cope gig and also there were a few at the Damned.
I reckon something like this with BOOMTOWN on it would look good

It is odd they wear the same kit at every gig. I'm sure there must be a few suits. I reckon Geldof should auction them off when the Rats have another hiatus. Imagine the sweat, girls? (yuck!) Reminds me of....
Skin on Skin
Nothing more or less than Skin on skin I want to lick the sweat off Skin on skin But don't talk to me about right or wrong

Hope you got a chance to watch the linked clip of Geldof at Blackpool. Don't just take my word for it.Well worth seeing. A Rat setting the bait...like the banks in Ireland that robbed the people.

Maybe Andrew Lloyd Webber will write a new musical called Rats. Or rerecord Do The Rat as Do The Cat...
Yeah jukes I agree they wanna get a life or grow a back bone there's a lot of worse things out there some pop stars think their better than anyone else but Bob is genuine and 100 times better than some of those out there
You take what you get. He's a human being and can be moody at times. I wouldn't like him if he was too perfect. It's who he is. As a journalist once said of him, the good outweighs the bad.
