It's a good choice of 10 songs. I'd forgotten how good Born to Burn is.

I also think Hard Times is brilliant from ITLG. If things are like this,  then maybe we'll stay.....

If you don't play one of the albums for a while, you forget how good it is. Then you play it and it's like starting over again, it feels fresh and you really remember the brilliance.

Another great line from Hard Times  is 'The only act of revolution left, in a collective world, is thinking  for yourself....' Fantastic. Now if only the politicians would take note.smile

Great album,my only complaint ever was the release of Tonight as the first single.I would have gone,Dave,Drag Me Down,Lucky and A Hold Of Me.Walking Downtown was also a brilliant b side.

I don't think it mattered what they released as a single at that point.  I quite like Tonight and it did better than the other singles except Drag Me Down.

In The Long Grass was a really good album, just a shame they released it in 1984 rather than 1980.

You're right there Arrgee. I have a tape of Geldof,  around that time, saying that the Rats could have brought out Sergeant Peppers and it still would not have been a hit.

Not so sure. Always had a gut feeling DMD would have cracked the 40 if it had been first out of the trap, seeing as it hit 50, second out of the trap.

That's because the rest of the rats were running around record stores buying it. LOL

Roland Rat had a bigger hit at that time.

http://www.officialcharts.com/charts/singles-chart/19840520/7501

Interestingly enough lurking just below the Rats at #51 was White Lines which had spend 24 weeks on the top 100 and had "peaked" at #48 the week before.  It did go on to peak at #7 and ended up spending 57 weeks in the top 100.

Looking at the higher reaches of that chart, there are three film songs in the top ten.  A very 1980s phenomenon.  (What's that word Patrick?)
