Not sure Clacton is either. I only bought my ticket for that a few weeks ago and it was still on row C. Hope it all goes ahead. Trying to plug them quite a bit on FB.

it will end up being standing room only at Dorking at this rate.

I just went to the venue to see what happened if I tried to buy tickets and got this:

It says you can't buy them. Not hopeful at all.

i wonder if the Rats were playing would it be the same story? Something tells me it might be a bit more lively ticket sales wise?

I'm just going on a kind of hunch rather than any real evidence, but it's interesting for someone else to confirm my suspicion. Maybe Geldof just wants to do some low profile dates and has picked some low key venues like Port Talbot and Dorking etc. He might enjoy the contrast between the more hectic Rats gigs and the more 'internalized' way he does his own solo music. A bit of ying and yang. smile

Dorking Halls is a big venue, it takes over 1,000, maybe towards 2,000. A little over ambitious. Perhaps they thought that he'd gain some people because of the Rats?

Maybe a bit too low key. Cadogan Hall is the only time I saw Geldof solo, and even if it wasn't rocking it definitely benefited from a full house. I would have thought higher profile solo dates in the UK would be better given that there aren't that many solo gigs these days.

For info: I have just called Dorking Halls and Essex Live (Clacton). I had to leave a message for Dorking to call back and Essex Live are refunding the money to the card I paid with. There was a letter from Dorking advising me of the cancellation and Essex Live said that I should have received an email.

If you are interested in an alternative show at Princes Theatre or another event on the Essex-Live website we would be happy to transfer the full value of your booking, including any fees, to a new booking. Alternatively we can provide you with an Essex-Live gift voucher to be a used any time in the next 12 months. If neither of these options is of interest we can process a refund for the face value of your tickets.

Please acknowledge receipt of this email by 6pm Friday 4^th September confirming an alternative show, gift voucher request or if you would like a refund for the ticket face value.

No, tickets were £25. I'm not surprised the £3.10 booking fee gets retained..nearly always does. Rankles...but it's in T&C so not much you can do about it.

These fees always rankle. They name a price for a ticket, but there is no way of getting a ticket at that price. In the old days you only paid a fee through an agent, if you queued at the box office there was no fee. Now you pay them to print it yourself. As you say nothing you can do aside from not buying. I wouldn't do that.

You could just buy tickets on the door. Have to admit I only buy tickets in advance if I believe there is a chance the gig will sell out. When I went to Cork without a ticket, I was kindly given one in the pub in exchange for a beer and a t-shirt!

When I buy in advance, On occasion I invariably end up with the odd spare ticket on the night due to someone not coming and do well to get a fiver off a tout. I tend to just buy for myself these days, though I somehow got roped into booking six tickets for the forthcoming England game at Wembley on the day of the underground strike.

This weekend, my son has decided he'd rather go out with his mates than accompany me to the rugby at the Olympic Stadium. I wouldn't mind but he was the one who wanted to go initially!

Luckily, I have never had a concert cancelled on me. The Who was postponed to a later date, but the original ticket was still valid.

PS - If anyone fancies going to see the rugby at the Olympic Stadium this weekend, I have a spare free ticket.

Clacton fees refunded WITHOUT the fee. I have emailed them to ask for them back!! Bet they don't respond.

Not sure if you had a reply but I asked in hope more than expectation and reply below pretty much confirms above. I actually thanked the guy for taking time to explain. Occupational hazard for a pop fan I guess....

"Unfortunately booking fees are non-refundable as per terms and conditions of sale.

The reason this is a standard term of sale is because there are certain costs we cannot recover, such as card processing, payment processing, fixed admin costs and other transactional overheads. The event has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances by the act and/or venue and is outside our control. Neither the act, nor the venue, compensate us to return fees, only the ticket face value.

If the respective financial institutions and/or event organisers covered the costs of the transaction when an event is cancelled we would pass this back in full to the customer, alas that is not the case.

We appreciate this is frustrating, but I hope this explains why we have that condition of sale.

I phoned up and got this exact response. I asked for the name of a manager to complain. He was the manager, so writing in or talking would make no difference. I made a point that I even had to print my own tickets so have had absolutely no service whatsoever. He said it was written their t&c's.

Dorking is asking for a credicard number plus expiry date. Why they need the expiry date is a mystery. It is unsafe to send these details via email.
Did you guys give them those details?

I did it by phone. They just asked for the number, as far as I remember, but I could be wrong. If you have to d it by email, could you split the information into separate ones and explain why?
