last weekend i set out to buy tonic for the troops cos i recently lost my original album so.. i got to hmv and found all the rats albums remastered, picked up tonic und went.. it wasn't till later when i looked at the bk of the case and heard the cd when i realised tht 3 songs were missing and a bunch of bonus tracks were added it feels as if it's not tonic for the troops anymore .... whts the point in it being tonic if it's been changed and some of the original songs aren't there!!! now i'm going to get the rest of the albums, know they are remastered and not know whether they have all they're original songs or not pretty dissapointing if you ask me what do you think

In fact, the remastered Tonic for the Troops is the ORIGINAL album with four extra tracks.  Two of which are indispensible B-sides (though Do the Rat is cruelly abridged) and another, Neon Heart, is the missing fourth track from the 1977 Peel Session (the other three were the, ahem, B-sides to Crazy, which was crazy!).

Your version of Tonic was probably the 1992 re-issue with So Strange, How Do You Do? and Lying Again as bonus tracks.

Of all the remasters, only Tonic remained intact, all the others had the running order messed around with.

Of course, the other version is still out there (eBay often has copies) .....

What do I think?  Well,  I think the remasters sound a lot better (bar the wobble on I Can Make it if You Can) and if you are prepared to reorder the tracks as they were originally, it makes little odds what order they put them in!  (BTW How Do You Do is on Surfacing, but So Strange & Lying Again were not remastered).

There's a chance it was the US 1992 re-issue with Mary (single version) and Joey, but that would be just two missing tracks.

Well I still want to know what's going to happen to those left over tracks which didn't feature anywhere. Are we going to get them elsewhere? I do hope so, but can't think where...

I have most of them and would be prepared to provide mp3s.  Send a PM.

Only thing that I haven't got on MP3 is Silent Night (which I haven't got) and the live Dave B-sides (waiting to get a new turntable).
