It is on the Guinness festival website, whatever BGHQ say.
With all due respect, this is a fan forum where people post information for the benefit of other fans. I seriously doubt that the Irish Tourism Development Authority, Guinness and Cork City Council are merely speculating on this. By the time BGHQ tell anyone about this, it will be 2016.
It's just a warning, nothing else. I'm looking into hotels, myself as I write. Although I have an offer of staying with a friend in Cork, so that is great news for me.
It's not on the Cork Opera House website listings yet, just the Jazzfest page.
BTRs website has nowt to do with me. .
It is on the Cork Opera House Facebook page. Tickets are on sale 22 September at 9am. The Opera House holds 1000 capacity. You can buy tickets directly from their website or via phone.
That is tomorrow morning, as I thought. Not sure I can be on at 9 am exactly, but should manage shortly after at some point. I've not checked their website again today, it may well be confirmed on there by now.

Rock band playing in opera house as part of jazz festival.Only in Ireland...
I was checking the Opera house and it seems bookings are via the phone as website is being upgraded. Looks a bit posher than Vicar Street. Just realized it will probably be an all seated gig? Those seats don't look like they're going anywhere.

Hmm, won't be able to phone until a bit later. Hopefully won't be sold out that quickly. Does look a bit posh!! Is this a seated event? Maybe they take them out?
The Bobkatz played at a jazz festival in Germany. They aren't jazz either.

Just had a phone call from the Box Office. Since putting it out on the web, they have found that it is actually standing downstairs and seating upstairs!!! Oh I love that accent, nice to speak to a man with a Cork accent .

Still not sure if I will be going to this one. Will know in a few days. Very glad there will be room to stand as I hate sit down only gigs. Nice to have the option of both sitting and standing.
I am very interested in accents. Some I love and some I hate. Love the English West Country accent, worst UK is probably really 'working class' Scouse.
Yes, it's hard to understand them, but it sounds beautifully soft. I love all Irish accents. I also love hearing English being spoken in foreign accents. Always sounds lovely.
The venue is still advertising seats, it's including the ones I have. Will they have to phone everyone to let them know? How costly will that be? It does state on the front page it's a standing gig. They need to sort out their website.
I hope you can sort things out so you can be there, Noel. Anyone else have tickets?

It's unlikely I'll be able to go to the Cork gig as I succeeded at the interview and will be starting new job/training scheme in the next few weeks. It's not full time but about 25 hours per week, so odds are stacked against a Leeside visit, though I'm not sure of exact starting date or hours yet.

Congratulations on the new job!
Thanks Lisa. re Yoga I just learn it from the internet. There are hundreds of helpful videos for all levels. I have a really good book too, which outlines just what if for a beginner, intermediate etc. It can be a bit overwhelming to the novice, and sometimes all the meditation 'mumbo jumbo' gets in the way of the pure practice of the asanas/poses.
Of all the videos on the net my favourite is Ekhart yoga by Ester Ekhart. Shes brilliant at explaining each pose and has a fantastic German accent to boot. I think yoga is well worth taking seriously and having a space at home to do it is probably a good idea, so that you can continue/advance when not attending class. I am pretty diligent on my own, but with most of the basics covered I think I will go to 'improvers class' in the next while as I really think it is quite beneficial, both physically and for the mind and sense of wellbeing and calm. If everybody did yoga then the world might just be a better place.
Re: Cork, anyone in need of digs? I've got a double with breakfast included (for 2 guests -same price as 1) a very short walk from gig, £65 at today's rates. I'm cancelling as I'm heading straight back to Dublin post gig for early flight. Will hold for a few days in case anyone wants.
I was going to ask my friend Rosie, who is putting us up and joining us, today, to recommend a good place for a meet up. Will let you know. Hope you can make it.
See you there. I have to collect my ticket at the venue, I was hoping I could print it. Hope the box office is open early, AND hope we have no camera police!

Meet up from 4 pm at The Woodford, 19-20 Paul Street.
Their website is down at present, unfortunately. See you there.
90% chance work situation will allow me to be there so I have booked train to Cork, arriving at 14.35 on Thursday. Hope to drop into the Woodford on or after 4pm.
Will let you know if I can't make it, but chances are pretty good so far.
There are two competitions on Twitter to win tickets for this. Find @RSVPMagazine like and retweet their post. Then search @corkoperahouse and tell them why you don't like Mondays.
It was a corker! About 80 percent full, with capacity of 1000. Great follow up to the Marquee. Neon Heart got a play, though the set was largely as its been for yonks. Band and Bob seemed genuinely touched by the audience reaction, and no one wanted to go home, though they only did 2 songs in the encore, the eponymous one and Diamond Smiles.Bob of course started the gig by giving a rant about how awful jazz was, and that got a big cheer.
As usual there was no going through the motions. Standout tracks for me were Clockwork, and Mary/Boom Boom. The Rats seem to go down well in Cork and I wouldn't be surprised if they played there again in the next few years, all being well.
Nice meet up in the pub before the gig too. Suss took a funny turn at the weekend and decided to head off to a Geldof solo gig in Lodz Poland on either Saturday or Sunday.Hope he gets well soon.
PS Bought the German dvd 1978 at the gig and watched it today. It's really good, whoever said the Rats were not punks?
Bob of course started the gig by giving a rant about how awful jazz was, and that got a big cheer.
Changed his fcukin' tune, hasn't he? Wasn't Ratlife a bit jazzy? And what was Walking Downtown and this sh!te...
I turned on the radio and everyone was listening to chicken jazz...
He always says this about jazz. For once he's sticking to the same tune, despite making these tunes.
The support act were dire. Was very happy when they said their next gig is on 6th Dec.... In Cork.
I thought there wasn't going to be support in Dublin. No mention of it on the ticket. I am hoping for a longer set or even better two sets with an interval so I can get out of the pit to get a half time pint.
It would be great if we have no support in Dublin, unless it is The Mighty Stef! Only person that liked the support on Thursday was Suss. I thought they were diabolical. We tried counting down their songs but they all sounded the same so we lost count. Rats were great of course. I would have preferred a longer set from them though! Here is a link to my photos, not as good as I'd like due to bad lighting and me being out of camera in concert situation practice! https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10153370100058401.1073742019.708703400&type=1&l=02d5bf4526

Mine will be terrible. They're all orange!! Camera didn't know what to do with the lighting. I will see if I can edit them. It will be Tuesday before I can do that.
Good to see a proper gig rather than festival set, with pretty much the last tour set being played. Good venue too. Bit like being on the terraces with all the crush bars. Will post a pic sometime to show.
Great to see a few familiar faces there, and meet a couple of local devotees too, despite one insisting I was Duncan Bannatyne.
Noel makes it sound like I decided on the spot to travel to Lodz - not quite that bonkers...yet. Glad I did though, might have to venture into the unknown territory of BG page on forum and post something there too. And talking of feeling better soon, I don't know how bands do what they do. 3-4 days of moving around constantly, not sleeping regularly, going from hot to cold etc etc has left me full of it (no funny comments!). And finally, on subject of medicine, got a taste of my own when a Polish giant (was probably 6' 8" before puberty) picked on little ol' me to eclipse the stage in Lodz. Was like trying to watch peering round a block of flats.
Oh, and support band in Cork, very good

As Jules says, no Joey, but that was what I meant by saying last tour set. Wasn't playing it then either.
Set was Eva Braun, Like Clockwork, Neon Heart, Do You in, Someone's Looking, Banana Republic, She's So Modern, Mondays, Close as You'll Ever Be, Mary, No 1, Rat Trap - Diamond Smiles, Boomtown Rats. Think Jules nabbed a setlist she can post just in case I got that wrong.
Incidentally, Joey was omitted (crossed out) on solo setlist on Sat.
Be realy interesting to see what gets played on 6/12. For now I'd put money on the above but would gladly lose that £1......

Set looks written in stone. As for the Dublin date, I guess it depends on how the band see it. If it's just another gig, which the announcement of a 2016 date implies, then your pound is safe.
However, I would like to think that given it is the ONLY 40th anniversary show they will ever play (and the ONLY gig this year not part of a bigger festival and a date in its own right) and the fact it in in their home city that they will do something more. If The Damned are going balls out for their fans (with nearly a year to the gig), then surely the Rats can as well...
Next year, the band [The Damned] celebrate their 40thanniversary and wanted to celebrate it in the greatest of style and do something truly unique for the fans, so they booked the Royal Albert Hall and are planning a very special show, the content of which is being kept a closely guarded secret.
When asked what could be expected? Vocalist Dave Vanian enigmatically replied expect the unexpected.
Captain Sensible responded "Our 40th anniversary show will be a celebration not just of a band but a special time in British music history the dawn of punk, when seemingly anything was possible if you could strum a couple of chords on a guitar. And if the Albert Hall is good enough for messers Clapton and Wakeman then its good enough for us. On the night a fun and varied setlist will shine a light around the darkest corners of the jolly old discography. cant wait!
The band will play a "three-hour setlist of every song we've ever recorded", guitarist Captain Sensible said.
If the Rats did a three hour set, they could theoretically do the first three albums in their entirety and have enough time for all the subsequent singles. And the eponymous song...

I do have a set list. It's at the bottom of my case. At the airport. Will take a photo tonight or tomorrow for confirmatio. See how good your memory is .

Some great photos there Musicmania. Glad you made it down to Cork. Hope to see you at the Olympia in December.
Re support band_not really my cup of tea. I read that they got together in trubute to Cork indie band of the early 90'S Five Go Down To The Sea,with some former members of that band. Some of them were in a Cork punk band called Nun Attax hence the Nun in the new title. Mismatch between the older members and the young singer, to me very workmanlike but then I was watching the Boomtown Rats at Musicladen 1978 on dvd so the bar was set high for how a good band should be.
That Murphy's must be good for the memory Nearly 100 times??! lol - Only 73 since regrouping Will post dates etc for posterity and quick ref when I get chance.
Anyway, few Cork pics as mentioned earlier. Looks very different to the picture above with seats taken out!
That is one hell of an impressive list Suss! Hope you are feeling better soon. Know that feeling of crazy travel and then the come down and feeling like death after!
Poland does seem to produce giants! A friend had one in front of him for one of Leonard's gigs there!
Noel, thanks for the info about the support band. That young lad sounded like he was chewing on wasps!
Jules I've checked our tickets and MCD are promoters so just maybe we will have no camera police in The Olympia. Fingers crossed. You got some nice closeups. I need Bob to stay still for longer than a second to even attempt them!

How many if you include the Barton/Bradbury Rats? And how many times pre-1986?
Saw the Barton/Bradbury Rats 34 times from May 2010 (i.e. some 2 years after they started) through to demise. From the Whyteleafe gig Nov 2010 I tried to go to all but ended up missing one due to a clash.
Pre-86 is a good question. I always thought it felt like a lot but can only readily recall 7 venues, majority from ITLG tour. Lightweight!
Good shout on Imelda May by the way. I discounted as it was a very few songs and I didn't go for that reason, despite being aware beforehand. By that argument I should discount Maida Vale too I guess. Debatable whether Butlins counts as two as well but I'm having that
A truly amazing feat by Suss. Not just in terms of the Boomtown Rats but by any fan dedicated to a band. Must have cost a pretty penny too.You have my(and many others) undying admiration. Also love your spirit of adventure and interest in seeing places away from your own doorstep. That includes large parts of the Uk as well as Europe and the US.
I know one or two Rats fans in Dublin who baulked at the idea of travelling to Cork for the gig.I'm more like Suss in that I like travelling and that's part of the adventure-seeing towns and landscapes that get you away from the over familiar.

I might take both cameras, just in case, if. Can faith in my suitcase.
Maybe i shpuld avoid Polish gigs if I can't guarantee my front row middle slot .
Appreciate the comments I really do but the intention wasn't to draw attention, more to capture a ready list of all the gigs to date for others to utilise or reminisce. I know if I hadn't written them down I'd quickly have forgotten, as is evidenced by the vagueness about pre-86.
I appreciate the list because I couldn't remember how many I'd been to, so I could check. Thanks . Pre 1986 is easy, just the one. Roberts/Crowe, I think 4. BG solo, who knows?

Lewandowski always seems to be standing in the wrong place, ie infront of the Irish defenders and blocking their view.
I know one or two Rats fans in Dublin who baulked at the idea of travelling to Cork for the gig.
That's me!
I did go to Cambridge a couple of times, but I did so knowing the suss mobile would get me home. Also The Cambridge Junction (clue in the name I guess), was pretty close to the train station and the trains ran late. I suspect the reservations are more around getting home afterwards. I hired a car to get to/from Hurtwood.
Dublin and Cork are a lot easier for me than most of the UK venues. All I have to do is catch the bus from my local tube station to the airport and I can be in the town centre of each in less than three hours.
Have to confess that when I found out where Whyteleafe was, I had second thoughts Being on the platform at East Croydon around midnight on an exceptionally cold night did make me question my sanity.
Anyway, after my next trip to Dublin, I am going back to my M25 rule. Well until the 50th anniversary gig that is.

I think if U2 were playing in Cork they would be putting on extra trains.
London is more difficult, in some ways, than other places. Even though we have a regular bus in to Victoria, that goes throughout the night. Prefer the West side!
Mmm, lots of traffic, lack of parking, noise, low flying aircraft etc. Mrs. ArrGee is currently stuck in a traffic jam over that side of town whereas I am home. All the interesting stuff happens out east these days. Better rock venues (Troxy), stadiums (Olympic Stadium), nightlife (Shoreditch, Dalston), parks (Epping Forest). Whenever I head west, I regret it cos half the time the trains are all out, as per our trip to Kew this summer.
Take the Rugby World Cup. Everyone has a great day out in Stratford and gets home. Quickly. In Twickenham, half the crowd are stuck out there after the last London bound train leaves Richmond after an hour's hike from the stadium. Little better at Wembley, with the half hour wait for the underground.

Camden is west enough for me.
Shepherd's Bush is great for me, bus drops me there and no tube or bus needed .

Shepherd's Bush is OK for me as the train goes straight home, but in general I avoid west London as much as possible. Last time I was in Shepherd's Bush was for Blondie during the football world cup. Sadly, ArrGee junior does insist on dragging me off to the other football club in Fulham from time to time.
The only gig Ive done at Shepherd's Bush was White Lies. It was so easy! Although I have to get a bus to get the London bus and back, so not as easy as all that. .

I am one underground stop away from seeing them next Monday, but will give it a miss if I get a pair of Adele tickets.
If we get the HS2 hub, there is talk up here of Crewe becoming a suburb of London but without the stupid house prices! Or maybe that would herald them?
Even now, the capital is only an hour and a half away which is adequate for me and how often I visit.
The idea you could get there in 55 minutes by 2027 is a bit bizarre. Just in time for the 50th anniversary of the release of Looking After No 1
I live in a street of 19 houses and in 2 of them, the guys commute every single day, no working from home allowed. That's over 10% of the street commuting to the capital. House prices rising in London faster than anywhere else (apart from maybe Oxford, I read) mean this will become more common I suppose?

I did consider long distance commuting from Cambridge area (another boom town) but it would have cost over £350/month for the train. Currently, I only spend about £80/month on fares as I don't have to enter zone 1 which can more or less double the fares. Seems crazy to spend 3-4 hours of every day on a train, but many people do it.
