I live in a street of 19 houses and in 2 of them,  the guys commute every single day,  no working from home allowed. That's over 10% of the street commuting to the capital. House prices rising in London faster than anywhere else  (apart from maybe Oxford,  I read) mean this will become more common I suppose?

I did consider long distance commuting from Cambridge area (another boom town) but it would have cost over £350/month for the train. Currently, I only spend about £80/month on fares as I don't have to enter zone 1 which can more or less double the fares.  Seems crazy to spend 3-4 hours of every day on a train, but many people do it.

I agree. I can do 3 or 4 hours in the car each day but this is staggered, going from customer appointment to customer appointment and in my own,  often Boomtown-orientated, space.

Still, my capital-commuting neighbours tell me they can administrate emails and excel with spreadsheets on the train, reducing their requirement to stay as long in their offices. They seem pleased spending London wages on Cheshire life.

Down with commuting to work, but spend a few hours on a plane to get to a concert, yeah ok!

Who goes to concerts every day of the week?

Not me, not even once a week but I do know someone who goes to a few a week!
