Being the proud owner of all 6 Rats albums, and upon seeing the waft of Greatest Hits in the shops this week for any and every band under the sun for Christmas, I thought I'd like to purchase one of the Rats' compilations to play in the car, or at home..
I know there's not many; and 'Best of' from 2004/2005 looks the best (19 tracks). I have the cassette of Loudmouth, my first intro to the band 10 years ago, but in terms of liner notes/photos etc that make for a grand booklet to accompany a Hits comp, would 'Best Of' be the one? I loved the liner notes on the reissues of the catalogue a decade ago, very well done I must say.
Was watching 'Rats on Film' again on weekend with my 2 year old daughter - she loved it, anything that captures her attention has to be good as she's a livewire! Particularly 'House on Fire', 'Mondays' and 'No.1'. Fantastic DVD, hopefully we will someday get a full length documentary, and...even a box set! All B Sides, rare mixes, demos...one can dream :)
We are lucky we have 5 pro-shot concerts to enjoy; but still want more!^

Dream on
I don't think there will be anything not on the 2005 remasters or ratsh!ts that will be released for two good reasons. Firstly, they are unlikely to sell enough copies and secondly they probably don't have the original masters. Best hope for that stuff is torrents and download links. I always thought it would have been good if the official sites provided links to such material but they don't.
Perhaps it is just dreaming to expect a boxset, but a more thorough film documentary is something they could do; an in-depth look at their music and their career. The 1979 'Rats in America' would be an amazing bonus to have with such a package; I did ask RTE about this a few years back, they have it, but due to 3rd party copyright couldn't send me a copy.
We have the 'Rats on Film' package, which is wonderful, 5 pro shot gigs, and quite a bit of footage available on YouTube. Was there rumours at the time in 2005 or so when the reissues were being done that a documentary was being considered?

Probably they avoided the fawning talking heads type doc in favour of just releasing the dvd/videos compilation.

Germany '78 was an unexpected treat and although there is some archive material out there, the market for it is probably too small to justify the production and distribution. Something like Fire & Skilll by The Jam would be superb as would an At The BBC compilation, but realistically I can't see it happening.
It wouldn't surprise me if Tonic or Surfacing were re-released on vinyl at some juncture, but it's not too difficult to find near mint copies, so I doubt I'd be forking out £15-£20 even for a 180g audiophile copy.
