All things Punk will be taking over London in 2016. Live gigs, talks, films, exhibitions and museum displays are all part of a year-long celebration of subversive culture. Not only will punks roots in London be explored, but also its on-going influence on modern day culture and society, from fashion to film, politics to identity, and of course music.

All the best band weren't punk. The Jam, The Boomtown Rats, The Saints,XTC, Dr Feelgood.None of them were from London either.
Andy Partridge famously went on stage dressed in 17th century black puritan outfit to distance himself and XTC from the so called punk phenomenon, which was basically a music press invention. The music press is still feeding off that carcass forty years later.

Well, The Clash, The Damned and the Pistols were, and if The Jam weren't from London that was purely notional. You can also throw in Elvis Costello, Adam & The Ants, Siouxie & The Banshees, The Ruts, TRB and Ian Dury & The Blockheads from that era. Dr. Feelgood were also effectively a London band as that's where they mostly played and indeed helped to start Stiff records which was the first significant London independent label. You can even throw in The Pogues. Madness and Spandau Ballet in the immediate post punk aftermath. Even The Stranglers and Sham 69 were from the home counties.
Whether or not these acts are punk or not they all came from the same alternative genre circa 1976
TV Smith putting together an excellent band for Tuesday, including Segs and Leigh from The Ruts and Vom Ritchie from Die Toten Hosen. Should be top notch, definitely gonna go now.
This was crackin' last night, have only seen seated things at the 100 Club before but great sound and just a really nice, friendly atmosphere. I mean, I watched the headline act stood between Gaye Advert and a couple of Ruts (who are apparently back there next month with the Newtown Neurotics, might be a laugh). Would recommend, whatever night you're pretty much guaranteed 3 decent bands for dirt cheap in central London and no messing about, they packed as much music in with as little turn around time as possible. How it should be done.
