Let me tell you about Bob in Glasgow. He was on top form. After a day of very motivational speakers, lots of hugging strangers, (some hunky young men - had a nice time), Bob was due on at 5.30 pm. He was of course running late as usual. At about 5.40, I was asked if I wanted my photo taken with him and I would have to come NOW, so shot out of my seat and a few lucky ones congregated in a side room with the organisers. He was looking great, if a bit thin. Can he actually get much thinner? The usual brown striped suit, with pink shirt and the most amazing very shiny, silver trainers. They actually matched his hair; it is going quite white and getting longer again. He chatted to everyone and asked if anyone knew the rugby score, so I quickly phoned hubby and was able to tell him that Ireland beat Scotland He said it was a very good day, as Milosevic was also dead. Photo then taken with him having a very tight hold around my shoulders. He was then piped in to the arena, by a piper playing an Irish tune, but I can’t remember the name of it. He spoke for 30 mins and the whole time he paced up and down the stage like a caged tiger. He literally cannot keep still for a minute. He had no script, but the words kept flowing. Very few Fs. He talked about what motivated him to organise aid for Africa. He is a very amusing speaker with lots of anecdotes. He told of a time when he was still in the rats, when a drunk woman approached him in a pub in Glasgow, read his palm and told him that tractors and wheat would mean something to him and he would have to do it and that there was a lady watching over him.(His mum?) He talked a lot about politics, the EU, Africa, USA, and he praised the Scottish parliament for their role in the G8. He praised the achievements of the Scottish people in general and talked about the gigs he had enjoyed in Scotland. He stated again that he wants to concentrate on his music this year.(great) He then took a 25 minute question and answer session. Someone asked him if he believed in God and he stated very firmly that he was an atheist, but Bono was very driven by his religious convictions. He then had to dash back to London, which is just as well, because we woke up to a nearly a foot of snow the next morning and the airport was closed. PS anyone in South Africa?
