Bob Geldof- steals the show at Bill Wyman's 80th at the Indigo2

Hi all,

It was a treat to see Geldof play 2 blues numbers. His harmonica playing sounded the best I'd ever heard it (something the Telegraph praised in their review). He played 'Little Red Rooster' and 'Route 66'. Steve Van Zandt from the E Street Band played electric guitar with him as did Bill Wyman on bass and Andy Fairweather Low on rhythm guitar, with the rest of the Bill Wyman Rhythm Kings.

Honestly, he stole the show. Even with some admitted pro-Geldof bias on my part. He probably had one of the weaker voices on the bill (the lineup also included Robert Plant, Van Morrison, Mark Knopfler. Mick Hucknall, Imelda May... etc). But did get a HUGE crowd reaction. It just shows in live performance attitude and showmanship can win the day.

Geldof said from the stage 2 Rats were in the audience. Not sure which 2. I guess perhaps Pete, not sure on the other.

It was a magic night. Cool to see Geldof do this type of blues material. A rare window into this side of him. A great night all in all. He certainly won over the crowd,

Seems a bit tame compared to him with the Rats (seen them about 15 times since the regrouped)Video below:

His voice generally is a bit croakier as he ages, though still pretty good when he belts them out. Also he moves around the stage a lot more with the Rats, can get pretty involved (as young Darren for a start!)

He certainly has a love for the blues.  I read recently that when he was sixteen he went onstage at some old blues legend gig in Dublin and got away with playing the harmonica before he was kicked out. Nobody then of course knew who he was.

Most likely this YouTube video does not do justice to the performance but he it is anyway:
