Just thought Bob was strugging to write some new stuff.
He wrote 'Love like a rocket' which was a follow up to the Kinks 'Waterloo sunset'. So I thought (just for fun, it is Xmas) I would have a go at writing a follow up to 'Joe's on the street again' as we do not know if he died! I have just changed some of the words and kept the same tune.
See what you think....again just for fun.
Have ago yourselves........what happened to Rattrap Bill and Mary?
Its much later now and the music is playing
The kids were all jumping to the beat box booming
Joey is up front, hes the DJ
Pretending he is the band, miming to what they say He now has no problem attracting the chicks He is a God laying down the latest tracks to a trance Ibiza mix
And how his mind sinks into the music to get his kicks He is now worshiped in clubland by the drug infused kids
They said Joey played this and Joey played that
Oh this guy is a rat, a crazy rat.
Then lasers light up smoke filled air, and rat music is selected today
And rat music only means one thing
Joeys on the decks again.
Joeys on the decks again.
Joey grew famous, more famous than before
To Europe, played all the best top venues in the resorts
Working hard through the night I will be number 1 one day
Then without a word he left, have fun whilst Im away People said they'd seen him, they were nearly always wrong Cause no one knew how much he had, where he'd gone or for how long till one day there came a rumour, floating from the clubs Saying a famous DJ had been found lying among the rocks.
They said Joey played this and Joey played that
Oh this guy is a rat, a boomtown rat.
Then lasers light up smoke filled air, and rat music is selected today
And rat music only means one thingJoeys on the decks again.
When Joey called it a day
A lot of the kids said "I can't stay raving here" They said "I'm moving out, going away They said "I'm leaving, moving on "I'm gonna go somewhere for a cheap thrill Away from the rest, popping a free pill Cut the bands from my wrist, chuck them in to a bin
It's a strain on the brain having nowhere to sin
Look at the brick wall gravestone where some kid was sprayed Saying nobody could be bothered here to rule O.K. Don't believe it, don't believe it what they say on the web There's no romance, no romance For Joey in this world.
Ah, c'mon Geldof, you ain't fooling anyone. Everyone knows it's you shoehorning "boomtown" and "rat" into the lyrics.
But in the same spirit, here's my contribution....
Mary's left all alone With no one but the Taoiseach She quickly drops her pencil And slowly bends to get it Taoiseach is a natural man His hand moves out to touch her She straightens and looks around, yeah She laughs and leaves the room, yeah Heartbreak for the Taoiseach Sweet dreams for our Mary

Cheers all, Have a good Xmas and New Year
Are you Joey in discuise? On a serious note your new lyrics are pretty good, infact rather brilliant. You don't sound like someone who has lived his life in a monastry, that's for certain.
I'm currently reading Simon Reynolds brilliant book Energy Flash about the rave n drugs scene in the nineties.Well worth checking out as it's probably the definitive guide to that crazy scene many of us miss. Compared to what is around today the rave scene was pretty revolutionary-now everyone sells their souls for security, just token rebels.

No Joe has introduced a whole story about Joey being a club dj with some pretty astute abservations throw in so it's way more than just a shoehorning job.
ArrGee's lyrics are verging on the slanderous though who knows what really goes on in the corridors of power. Bertie seems to be doing a bit of a Bill Clinton to Mary's Monica. Idid not inhale dat woman's scent.

Whereas in the original lyrics, Mary was a 15 year old prick teaser fending off the attentions of a paedophile. I would have thought that was far more slanderous. Besides I didn't name any particular Taoiseach, so I reckon I am in the clear.
