I reckon Geldof's views on Brexit and Primark from last year has put off the sort of "family" crowd that would typically attend these festivals especially with The Rats headlining. The Cricket ground festival doesn't look to be shifting too many tickets either.

Back in 2013 with the Isle of Wight and Cork gigs it looked like they would be able to play the festivals and have gigs in their own right with no problems, but it doesn't seem to be panning out that way. I haven't seen them since the 40th anniversary Dublin gig and to be honest wasn't seriously considering going to Guildford. Hell, I didn't even consider Brentwood and it is down the road from me. I wish I had given the furore. Every year it seems a bit more diminished.

I can't see a autumn UK tour, nor can I see a new album. And though it would be good to have smaller gigs for the devoted fan base but I can't imagine that would pay the bills. Not sure where they go from here.

The only thing thats really getting me annoyed here is the severe lack of NOTHING from Bob Geldof or The Boomtown Rats.Bobs home page is so out of date it´s border line pathetic.The boomtown rats homepage is like wise and the facebook page gives a couple of photos in the studio and nothing else.We get all the cancelations from everyone but the official channels.It´s all getting half hearted now.Either they get stuck in and do it all properly(and that includes the management)or do a last concert and end it that way.2017 and been nothing short of a disaster for The Boomtown Rats.Go Man Go or The Bitter End,either way this is not working.

I don't think they do the internet.

They still have a few dates this summer in Europe. Possible they may pack it in after that, but I have been so wrong about the end of the Rats and Geldof before that I suspect they will return next year. If anyone will have them!

I have the feeling they will keep going as long as they can get a few gigs going every year until they are to old to play anymore.They have some festival gigs in Europe to look forward to during the summer but it will be interesting to see what happens after that.

A bit like end of 2012 for me. Seems to have run its course. Been a great ten years, but maybe it is a good time to say cheerio.

But then again, they have rescheduled some German dates for early 2018...

I'll probably go to the gig in Worcester in September but the way things are going I'm reluctant to buy a ticket now. Someone told me that fans of older acts tend to wait till the last minute to but tickets so I wonder is cancelling these gigs( St Helens/Guildford) was a bit premature?

The Rats in Dublin in March was a virtual sell out, but luckily it was on a Saturday night and it was an indoor gig than only needed to sell about 1600 tickets.

There must be a certain amount of 'walk up' on the night ticket sales after a few early pints on the evening of a gig?Equally I suppose the promoters have to be certain than the whole thing won't be a disaster so an early decision is the best thing to do if that is what is required.Who'd be a promoter?

It's a vicious circle, the more that gigs are cancelled, the more people leave it to the last minute to buy tickets. The album will come, Geldof is on video saying it's recorded. Maybe they're tying it in within the 40th anniversary of the first self-titled album?

'The Rats have been recording for 4 decades now' sounds better from an advertising point of view than 38.5 or 39.3 years etc?

I am contributing to the vicious circle. Arranged for the St Helens weekend, but wouldn't buy until sure it was going ahead. I did this with Wolverhampton, Manchester and Birmingham in 2013.

I have kept my tickets for Hamburg but that is NOT going to happen.I have been to that place before back in 95 to see Simple Minds and I can tell you that place is way to big for The Rats.I am not booking any hotels until 48 hours before the concert is scheduled.I will be amazed if these 2 concerts go ahead.

There are some who don't even buy tickets and just rely on the benevolence of others at the last minute

Generlly I only buy in advance if I think a gig will sell out. If I can't make it, then I should get my money back (Dice is vert good for this)

Otherwise I wait until the last minute as too many things can happen which would leave me holding the tickets
