Amazingly no use of RAT or BOOMTOWN in the title, though first four letters are an anagram of RATS

Garry Roberts admits hes very excited about the Rats new single Trash Blam Baby out next month.

He said: It sounds fcuking great.

But on Oct 4th you gave us a guarantee the single title would have Rat or Boomtown in it come what Theresa, do or die, that's how we all saw it. 17.4 million people are going to feel cynically betrayed. Let's hope it's good and doesn't die in a ditch (this load of rubbish)

First album for 25 years? That was Loudmouth? Why pick that, which was a mixture of solo and Rats stuff, rather than So Modern or Classic Rat poop or 2003's best of?

Google search results for Trash Blam Baby take me to a site in the USA for disposing of diapers infused with baby balm in the trash.

Hope the new single is not rubbish. Or sh*te.

Still time for the title to change. Not unknown to happen.  May end up as Boomtown Baby or Rats Blam Baby

I think you have to remember it is the Sun, so they arent too worried about the facts getting in the way of the story. Read on and the album is going to be called Mega.

Its possible Trash Blam Baby may not be the actual title, but that is all that is known for now.

I had read that but it didn't register! Well maybe they've changed the album title? Wasn't Mondo Bongo originally going to be called Bongo Crazy?

Well title sounds lively if you can read much into it. Maybe influenced by New York Dolls song Trash, wouldn't be a bad way to go. Blam Baby maybe bit of Sweet and Small Faces Wham Bam Thank You Mam. Certainly a glam rock title whatever it sounds like.

Unlikely to be a moan song about Brexit thank God.smile

Must confess title put the ear worm of Ice Ice Baby in my head.

Trash was title of a wonderful Suede song as well, so maybe it is a bit glam. Slade also had Wham Bam Thank You Mam as the bracketed title of Thanks for the Memory. Hopefully better than Wig Wam Bam by Sweet.

Could not find any song of any significance with Blam in it.

FWIW wouldnt surprise me if this was a 21st century Shes So Modern.

Both Jules and Irene (Scotty) report that Pete on Facebook has corrected the title ie should be glam not blam. I always find Facebook posts pretty 'fiddly ie lots of sub-threads and hard to find information. I checked Pete's FB and couldn't find the title correction but I'm assuming it's correct.

No release date yet but Pete said last week that a timeline for the single would be known by tomorrow. Don't   hold your breath.smile

Probably from Pete Bremain's Facebook account.  Title could change a few more times.

PS - When the deal is accepted and UK does actually leave EU, will remainers become rejoiners?  And what about Brexiteers?

Probably just as well, I get distracted easily enough on here, but thankfully not much happens these days.

Sure did. Kudos to them. Saved me being delayed this morning.  Canning Town was the wrong place for that sort of nonsense.

Extinction Rebellion can fcuk off back to the sticks and drive their land rovers on their daddy's farm.  Sick to death of the likes of Emma Thompson, Prince Ginger B0ll0cks and Gail Bradbrook preaching whilst flying here there and everywhere.  These so-called eco-warriors spend all day drinking from single use water bottles and leaving their filth and mess on the streets. Oh and Geldof as well!

For all those listed in the open letter.  Avoid Canning Town, you ain't welcome!

For the record. I don't have a car. I don't buy plastic bottled water. I walk for up to an hour rather than catch buses/trains where feasible.

Whereas Steve Coogan is a noted motoring enthusiast who has owned a succession of cars including Ferraris, Mazdas, Range Rovers and Porsches.

IMHO actions speak louder than words.

Re ArrGee's posts this afternoon, assume they will indeed be Rejoiners. If we do leave (and don't discount all sorts of shenanigans on Saturday from the MPs who really want No Brexit rather than No Deal) then to be fair to them, it's entirely democratic for the Lib Democrats to put it in their manifesto that they will apply to rejoin the EU if elected to Govt. God knows what Abbott and Corstellobyn will put in theirs. A curiously worded fence sitting hash of words probably. As regard XR, a more hypocritical bunch of virtue signallers would be hard to find. I do use a car and it is an essential part of my job and I cannot walk to my customers who live up to 100 miles away. How do XR suggest I reach them? I bitterly resent a lot of my deductibles go to these layabouts (who else can take 2 weeks off in October to spray red paint on Govt buildings and interfere all over the transport system). Their 2025 demands are ridiculous. Why not go and protest in China from where the real damage is being done? Our Govt has a plan, which is measured and potentially achievable. XR plan would result in mass unemployment and mass death, disease and misery. And don't get me started on that brainwashed, abused Greta what's her name from Scandinavia....

Agree. All the signatories of the open letter should be put on a slow boat to China to make their protests in Tiananmen Square.

Well, except Geldof, cos im off to see the Rats in the new year.

Wonder will Trash Glam Baby be put up immediately on YouTube and Vemo when released? Surely it's more important for people to just hear it,then consider buying the album.

The number of 'views should give some sort of indication of interest/curiosity.

Almost certainly along with an appearance on Spotify/Deezer/Tidal/Amazon Music.

I dont think the number of views matters so much, more important that the right people are viewing, namely 50+ oldies who will buy the vinyl LP and go to a gig.  Will be interesting to how The Rats are marketed. Q and Mojo interviews would be good along with some mainstream media. Dont suppose Graham Norton or Jonathan Ross would give them a slot in the new year, would they?

I guess you meant a deal, but yes, there is no way this deal will be accepted. The DUP + Lib Dem + SNP + 80% Labour will all vote again for certain. Ironically Sinn Féin would vote for it but as they never turn up...

... also will be a few Tories (along with expelled Tories) who will vote against.  BoJo the clown could not only be the shortest serving PM, but also the first to NEVER win a vote in parliament.

Anyway, Im going to stay in and watch the rugby on Saturday while all this nonsense is going on.

No, I suppose I meant no No Deal. The pretence given by those MPs behind the Benn Act is that they are trying to stop Boris 'crashing the UK out of the EU with no deal' and that all they are trying to do is make sure a deal is done. Cobblers. Grieve and Benn and all the other anti democratic MPs who never want us to leave, want No Brexit. Therefore, the presentation of a deal to them on Saturday is a nightmare and they will have to find all sorts of things 'wrong' with it and tell everyone that Leavers didn't know what they were voting for and so we need another vote etc.

Boris did win his first vote a couple of days ago:

MPs voted 280 to 206 a government majority of 76 in favour of the uncontroversial Environment (Legislative Functions from Directives) regulations 2019.

Bang a boomerang is it now or possibly Boom bang-a-bang - you see in the end we will get Boom in the title and Lulu and Abba will sue. Bob will deny everything and it will be settled on the steps of the Supreme Court where Diana Ross, furious at the Court naming itself after her backing group, will have just had her case dismissed by Lady Hale wearing a rat brooch. Anything can happen these days...

Derek's Klingon Baby has confused me a bit. Maybe its some sci fi reference I don't get. Not a huge fan of science fiction though I did go to see Ad Astra in Imax a few  weeks ago and it was pretty good.

Its a bit like Chinese Whispers- the title keeps getting changed by people on this forum. Even you Mark got it wrong.smile

Here's Geldof telling it the other way around:

Reliving his band's early days in the '70s, he tells Stuart Clark about his relationships with punk's most iconic bands.
"Im good friends now with Mick Jones and Paul Simonon," Geldof says, "because we went through that whole thing together, but in 76 I really didnt like The Clash. To me, they were talking old hat, absolutely standard left-wing politics. The Clash for me were just a set-up. They were set up by Bernie, who was Malcolm McLarens assistant, who thought, I can do this better'. Their first gig was in front of journalists with Bernie telling them what to write. As I said at the time, which got me into terrible trouble, they were like a new wave Bay City-****ing-Rollers."

We have enjoyed democracy for so long that we perhaps take it for granted a bit but it is a fragile thing, and dependent upon the co-operation of the losing side. With Brexit, a prominent proportion of the remain contingent have not accepted the result because it did not go their way. Shame on Oliver Left In, Anna Sourpuss, Dominic Aggrieved, the Lib Dems and various Scottish lawyers. Sore losers!

Any news on the single release or is that pushed back too again? Saw Bob remoaning in London yesterday and no doubt Pete Bremain wasn't far behind.

I knew it would be messy and expensive, as a lot of divorces are, so please don't tell me I didn't know what I was voting for.

The interview re The Clash is from a Hotpress interview. It was Geldof originally calling The Clash 'a new wave Bay City Rollers.' Would like to find the original interview. Bob says it caused lots of controversy, and looking back on old forum thread from 2005 Clash fans are a pretty rabid lot, particularly one guy from Chicago who had a major battle with ArrGee. But ArrGee was well able for him.smile

Anyway as long as Trash Glam Baby isn't a remake of Bye Bye Baby...

... I hate the Bay City Rollers, can't believe they are getting so many name checks. Hopefully no one on the BCR forum ever sees this.

PS I realize I was the idiot who mentioned them in the first place.

Maybe it will never get released until we have a second studio session. On the basis the group did not know what they were recording.

Many argue that was definitely the case with Ratlife biggrin

How ironic that as the band formed in 75, we were having a referendum on the EU (in which Remain won and the result was respected because everybody knew what they voted for lol) and here we are with the argument still going (as are the Rats), with people calling for a second referendum.

Well, we had that on June 23, 2016.

Thanks for the updates Derek. It's great you're passionate about the group and keep checking for updates. They do not deserve fans as committed as us.

Hang on, I am the committed one! I have tickets for their next two gigs! Or maybe I should be the one committed..

I know you are chap... I'm talking in terms of the dates for album and single, as I know Derek checks at the start of every month on BMG and regularly checks FB where he relays updates from Pete Bremain to us.

As I said, we're all committed. Yes, we probably should be committed! I really enjoy this forum, but I did not commit to it as early as you and my post count is short of yours and many others. Plus I think you go to more gigs, did Maida Vale, and I even once saw a well written review of yours on Amazon for a Rats CD. Can't remember which one now.

The gig count prize has to go to Suss who, by dint of the Bradbury Rats gigs, can actually say he has been to more gigs than even Geldof! Now that is some commitment!

Pete Bremain gives new release dates all the time biggrin

Wonder if Simon, Garry or Darren are Remaining Rats like Bob (the question back to the people) and Pete Bremain?

There were two or three other forums that preceded this one.  And one that came and went.  This is the only one left.

Well maybe this one does have some old posts https://www.voy.com/101985/

Pretty sure Bob did a few more than me 75-86

Think I may have said before but in recent times I got more enjoyment from gig trips than football, and I've never been a golfer. It's as much about the new places and faces as it is about the music.

Been a bit starved of late though, a year since Irish gigs, one in Malta and one in Poland.

Fingers crossed the new year brings a resurgence and the much awaited new material.

Pedant! I was talking about the second incarnation lol

Anyway, good to hear from you again. We'll mention you periodically then if it encourages musings from Sussland :)

Thanks Mark. I still look in often. Glad to see forum is going strong as it was where I first rediscovered Rats and, like many of us, felt relief I wasn't the only one who was almost obsessive

I did have a record of gigs attended once but got lost along the way but I think total for original, Barton/Bradbury and current is closing in on 150 now. Wes will top that if you include solo gigs. I've only done a dozen or so of those and only in last 8 or 9 years at that.

Guess what I have learned is there's no clear top fan criterion, nor should there be. Derek has about 1000 different recordings , ArrGee and others have an encyclopaedic knowledge about the band, you seem to have an unrivalled memory for stats and dates, others play the stuff daily, or know every lyric or can find articles and videos we never even knew existed. I've met others at gigs who date from the early days but don't do the online stuff so much. Between us I think we have most things covered!

Certainly changed my life, to the point where it doesn't overly concern me if the new material does go largely unheralded. I see it more as being loyal to lifelong 'friends' and keeping an active interest in what they're doing nowadays.

We'd all probably score similar (high) totals if we individually went on Mastermind with the specialist subject 'The Boomtown Rats' lol

Yes, changed my life in a way. Those 6 albums and all they contained apart from the odd very rare exception, were superb and spoke to me in a way no other band did or has since. It is remarkable and probably close to an obsession. My mother thinks it odd. Sometimes, I cannot understand why I don't tire of hearing the same song yet again, but I honestly don't and often hear something new despite thousands of previous listens. This is going to sound mad, but I am lucky enough to have a Bang and Olufsen system and the other day, heard the intake of breath before the first line of Banana Republic is sung!

As you say, if I can find something of interest on Citizens of Boomtown, then great, but it is the first incarnation of recordings from which I have derived the most pleasure. When the sax solo starts on Back to Boomtown, I am taken back to the late 70s and there are hopes of what might come, but we will see.

Very very good post about the band for what ever reason we all seem to love. Hope to to see the Rats live next year and my plan is to get to Dublin should it happen. I really enjoy this forum and long may it continue.

Hi Suss

How you doing ? I used to comment under the guise Daggerat but lost my login info as I am not a techno freak unfortunately . Been reading the forum with some interest but I guess similarly to everybody else although delighted that new material seems to be on the horizon I am also extremely frustrated that there is no hard and fast release date as yet.Still sure it will be worth the wait

I can feel everybody else's disappointment .

I guess that as usual you will attend most if not all of the dates penned in for the UK next year ? I will definitely go to Norwich as I also quite like the undertones and alerted images , I can feel 20 again for a few minutes until me knees give up. Also will be looking to go to the Hertfordshire gigs plus hopefully any that they may add in smaller London venues

Anyhow hope to see you there

Some sites are talking breathlessly about '10 glorious new Boomtown Rats songs' and opine that the first single Trash Glam Baby, is a 'beautifully sleazy rocker'

How do they know?

This site is an example:

They copied it from the press release. The one that omitted the Glasgow date.

The 20s will be the decade of the Rats, not when the Rats finally decayed. Mick Jagger 77 next year and still ok. Be 2028 when Bob's that age. Lots to look forward to.

It won't be on vinyl nor CD on initial release.  It will probably only be on streaming services.  There is the possibility it can be purchased as a download, but even that is not guaranteed.

It may eventually be on vinyl like the Ratsh!t ep, but that is not a given.

I asked Pete B on facebook yesterday(5th) and he said he would let me know today(6th).I have a gut feeling that they will move the single release closer to the release date of the album.

On the topic of the single, in the usual fashion, do you think a music video will accompany it? Not 100% sure what you could possibly do for a song called "Trash Glam, Baby" but who knows.

There was a 9News video back in March or so talking about how Geldof was filming something, but it didn't go far beyond that. Dunno if that's the same thing.

There is definitely an accompanying video.  Will be on You Tube and most likely Vevo.  Maybe on Friday.

Maybe.  Will be on Deezer and Spotify and you can trial them free for 3 months. Or just sign up to the free service. Some 30 second ads, but better than radio.
