After waiting a couple of decades for these guys to get their asses back to NYC, I suffered a four-hour wait of opening acts to see The Rats rush through a ONE HOUR set? It was a great one hour, but c'mon... for those of us who waited 30 years, a full set is the least we should expect.

Hope it happens...

By comparison, after a 25-year wait... Midnight Oil returned to the states in 2017 and blasted through raucous two-hour plus sets all across the U.S. They were truly epic and showed little rust at all.

I suspect that there won't be any US shows.

The Damned did a few US dates as support for The Misfits this year and did short 10 song sets.  They frequently play 20+ songs and well over 2 hours.

Also the Rats set have got a little shorter.  They played for close to 2 hours back in 2013 in Cork and Hurtwood, but nowadays is just over 90 minutes.

And the final issue is the Rats are pretty much part-time.  Most of the band have day jobs hence many of the gigs are on Friday/Saturday/Sunday.  Getting the band and crew over to the US would be costly, and unless they play big venues and pack them out it wouldn't be worth it.

Why not come over to the UK or Ireland  and get a few gigs in?

I know work, money, other commitments come into play but it is possible.

Maybe if the forthcoming album gets good reviews they may do some US dates. Lots of Americans seem to want the Rats to tour.

That would be a very expensive gig. I wouldn't go to the US to see anyone. Though it would probably be easier to get to New York than Minehead.

I went to Cork, but that was about 50 euro for a return flight,  i didn't stay in a hotel overnight and I got a free ticket.  My couple of trips to Dublin were pretty inexpensive.  Excluding the cost of beer which is a pretty fixed cost regardless of location.

I enjoy travelling. Am currently in the  Netherlands chilling out! You seem never to want to travel outside  London.

Lots of music fans jump on planes and travel to gigs and spend a bit of money and enjoy themselves in the process. I might go to one of the Rats gigs in Denmark and get a glimpse of life in Denmark, it certainly would appeal to me more than seeing them in Ireland, but that's because I live here.

Otherwise haven't decided on which gigs to go to. I spent four days in Liverpool during the heatwave so might pop over there again for Rats  at Grand Central  Hall.

Good point about not being full time. Also affects how much rehearsal is possible for varying set but ultimately it's a set that has all the tracks occasional fans would want. I know if I see any other band just once I want the best known tracks.

Think the non-festival set is probably only 75 minutes or so nowadays but maybe 2020 will bring some variation on content and duration? With all respect it's pretty knackering I'm sure to play those faster tracks of old so probably need to take pacing and stamina into account too. All depends on length and tempo of new tracks I guess.

You have to learn to read between the lines

As it happens, I am in Ireland in June for GAA (I go every year), and have booked a hotel in Copenhagen in October.  And most likely if I see the Rats this spring it will be in Brighton or Cambridge.  Pretty sure I have written about all this a lot in recent days.   I have done plenty of travelling down the years in Europe, Middle East and America.  Sometimes work, often pleasure.  And I have my trip down under coming up.

Also I have a wife and children in education which somewhat restricts my movements.  And stops me chilling out in the Netherlands.

All that written, there is no chance of me crossing the Atlantic to see any act.  No need to go outside London as every band comes here.  hence my M25 rule
