Trash Glam Baby with No Tomorrow Like Today as the b-side to be released 14th Feb.
Fantastic news! Thanks Derek.
Is this from Facebook?
Jules posted Pete's FB announcement on Geldof FB.
Like the title of the b-side and who knows it might be better than Trash Glam Baby?
Thanks Noel, yes a good title. If it's better than TGB, it'll be off the scale for me. I'm sorry it's not grabbed you or others like it has me, Mike or manatthetop but that's the nature of these things I suppose. We can't all be the same, hence why you hold A Hold of Me in greater affection than I do.

Pete Briquette actually says in the full post that No Tomorrow Like Today should have been on the album. Anyway having another song to look forward to is a nice little 'staging post' on the way to the full album release on 13 March.
Wonder will there be another single released on or around that date? Pretty likely, with another non album b-side too.
Still think TGB is only good rather than great but remain optimistic.
That is indeed the way I am looking at it. More exciting to think there are two dozen or so new songs out there and the prospect of more B sides or even those elusive EPs to come. Or even another album.
There might be more singles to come you never know I'm looking forward to listening to the b side of trash as well as The a side will be another to add to my singles collection

You never know Mike. Live today like there's no tomorrow.... hang on, there's a song title in there somewhere
I keep checking the site but noting as yet let's hope it's still out on Friday
You'd think that if the vinyl single was being released on Friday then we would have been given sufficient notice. They would want to sell it through the website.
Then the official site is never known to be the most reliable. I mean what does it take to 'print up' a few hundred copies and see how that goes? I hope it's out on Friday and am particularly interested in the b side.

Which official site? The new one written in gobbledygook or the old one that hasnt been updated in years.
I wonder how many copies there will be? The Ratsh!t ep seemed to sell a few, I would expect similar for this. Hopefully b side is available to stream.

The new one. Off the top of my head I think they could shift 500 easily via website and selling them at the gigs. Probably charge £15 approx. This is just a hunch, totally unscientific. YouTube views of song at nearly 40,000 so would imagine over a period of time, including summer festivals my projected sales might work out.
Derek might buy a hundred copies so they'll only need to get rid of about 400 then.

I'm not paying £15 for a one track single. I didn't buy the Ratsh!t ep on vinyl. I admit I was tempted, but I wasn't too disappointed when it had sold out by the Kentish Town Forum date.
I reckon they would sell around 500. I wonder how many of the limited edition of 1000 Live Target CDs remain unsold. And the How To Decompose box set. Not sure how limited that was.

Me neither. £15 is too much. I also didn't buy the Ep. I might go up to a fiver or so but anything in double figures is a bit of a rip off.

I have free Amazon Prime Unlimited, so I am unlikely to pay unless it is something a bit special. I did buy the last WHO LP because it has a limited edition hits LP bundled with it. Not bought any records at all this decade

The last vinyl I bought was by the Vaccines, the one with If you wanna on it. But then it was a steal in the charity shop in Sandbach for £4.

I didn't see Adele or TGB in there
You need to go to Chelsea. Apparently every charity shop has a young retro teenager serving. I ain't even seen one anywhere else in London. Not even outside a charity shop.

Not sure what you mean by a one track single? Its TGB b/w No Tomorrow Like Today. I'm just guessing at the price. I notice a lot of the singles in Tower Records on Dawson St or at Easons in Dublin normally cost 15-20 Euros though I honestly don't know who buys them. A lot of these are 'classic reissues'.
I don't have anything to play vinyl on believe it or not. Certainly can't afford to spend money buying records when I hear most music nowadays through streaming services or YouTube.
Obviously there are people who have both the money and inclination to collect vinyl singles so hopefully Bob's guesstimate of running up a thousand copies will work out. You can't put your arms around a memory or a music stream.

Wasn't Geldof Sixty-Six when he wrote that song? Certainly references 2017....
Photographs of fancy tricks to get your kicks at sixty-six He thinks of all the lips that he licks And all the girls that he's going to fix She gave a little flirt, gave herself a little cuddle But there's no place here for the mini-skirt waddle Capital punishment, she's last year's model They call her Natasha when she looks like Elsie I don't want to go to Chelsea

Only a one track single cos the other track will be on the LP or currently streamable. I have a turntable (well 4 including a briefcase model and a couple with USB copying alongside my audiophile Project), so I do listen to vinyl. Well I did until Mrs. ArrGee redecorated...
I do baulk at the cost of vinyl sometimes, but vinyl singles are simply ridiculous. Bowie has released a lot of 7" picture discs but I wouldn't buy any of them. They were originally around the £10 mark. They are very collectable and have appreciated in value. So almost an investment. £15 for a basic Rats platter for one new track?

Well you do get the fantastic picture sleeve too! Maybe they'll come with a free dead rat as in the US radio promo story Bob recalls in the interview.
Think he was on to something when he said Rats just missed out on early MTV breakthrough in America, but that was probably a good thing as success there would have changed their whole sound and style etc

Good job there was no MTV from 1976-81.
The picture with the stupid Rats masks? Ain't exactly Sgt. Pepper is it?
MTV is as dead as the NME. Don't think they show promos anymore. Internet killed the Video Show.

I'm not too keen on those rubber rat masks either. It seems just cheap Photoshop 'artwork'. Better to get a good 'unmasked' photo and use that.
I'm not a fan either. I like the forthcoming album artwork but was disappointed when I realised it is a stock image licensed out as appropriate.
Artwork has never been a strong point for The Rats. I like the Looking After No. 1, Someone's Looking, House on Fire and Rat Trap single covers and the first two LP covers, but don't think too much of the rest. That written, the artwork of Charmed Lives was better than the song
Agree with the above and quite liked the Banana Republic artwork. It gave a flavour of what was to come within Mondo Bongo. The Never in a Million Years cover was a catastrophe for reasons already explored here and everything thereafter was poor. The dissected ****roach image idea was poor.
... well, it's great to get your permission but I'm not sure Mrs L will be too enthralled if she catches me at it.... she particularly hates swearing in the more permanent written format
Came back home for lunch to find this beauty on the doormat. I have twenty minutes to have a listen and then further listening this evening after work. I do like these kind of Mondays
You won't be disappointed Mark it's a fab track so is trash glam really looking forward to the lp
I think it's absolutely brilliant Mike, marginally prefer it to Trash Glam Baby in fact. It bowls along with shades of Hotel 75, Real Different, Guilty, Keep it Up, Nice n Neat in it. This comeback is more than I could ever have hoped for; we are being treated to a real return to form. When a b side is as good as this, I have such hopes for the album and the first Uncut review is promising.
Yeh can't stop playing both tracks I will wear them out at this rate the uncut review sounds promising I can't wait and see still can't believe we have an album of new songs to look forward to definitely got my full citizenship of boomtown

Bob on BBC Radio London says Rats movie will be on BBC TV in April. Said there will be Rats night on beep as well. This was on Robert Elms show today.
All the reviews on Amazon are five stars, apart from one where the vitriole is undisguised and seems completely disproportionate to the quality of the single and what the vast majority of other people think. We on this forum get a mention, so I sense this is someone with a grudge, the history of which I know nothing about and am not interested in. The review is bereft of reality, where we are accused of getting excited over Geldof breaking wind when in fact we have been critical about songs like Charmed Lives and the Ratlife output. I don't recall anyone here calling it a second rate Bay City Rollers rip off. M Boyle opines :
Downright awful! This is NOT the Boomtown Rats

If the bin scraping "new tracks" tacked onto the last few "greatest hits" albums weren't enough warning what to expect from a Johnnie Fingers and Gerry Cott free "Boomtown Rats", here's the final nail in the Bootleg Rats coffin.
Even the remaining sad souls left at the Boomtown Rats fan forum on the internet - which would dribble sycophantically if Geldof released an album of farting through a kazoo - moaned this is a second rate Bay City Rollers rip off (those who remember Geldof's feud with the 'public school boys pretending to be proles' The Clash will enjoy the irony of that j'accuse!).
If they can't even get enough of what's left of the Geldof fanbase to make the taster single chart in the deadpan period of January when any old tosh can go Top 40 with a thousand sales, you can guess for yourselves what the forthcoming album "Citizens Of Boomtown" is going to be like (with only eight other new songs and another recycled from that earlier "Greatest Hits" package).
Time Geldof realised he doesn't owe life losers Crowe and Roberts a living "for old time's sake" and went back to his ex-Penguin Cafe Orchestra backing band for his solo stuff if he still wants to make music. He's burned his boats with Cott and Fingers, so there's never going to be a return to that Rats sound - ever.
I think this person was let out while their padded cell was being cleaned they have to wander round aimlessly till allowed back into the home obviously got too much time on their grubby little hands never mind all is fine in the city of boomtown

Around 20 of his 29 Amazon reviews are unremittingly negative and he particularly has it in for Crowe and Roberts, as he refers to them. He liked the Damned 2018 release (which was rather good) but fulminated and foamed at the mouth over 3 reviews on one Rats product alone.
I miss Mark Boyle - he was one of the more interesting forum members. Even if he did write some nasty thing about the bingo wingers I had thrown my lot in with...

Ah he still loves us Hope you enjoy reading what us sad souls are writing about.
I hope Geldof releases that album of farting through a kazzo. Would be his 8th solo LP and probably better than Deep in the Heart of Nowhere
The bingo winger comment wasn't about you. You must be German!
Sharing beds with history......
Bob went to see Garry and Simon at one of their gigs in London so Bob must have been ok with the idea of the drummer and guitarist earning a little bit of money.
MB seemed to have a huge grudge against Simon and Garry. Totally unfair in my opinion. Some of his comments were plain offensive. He seemed to totally disregard these two original members, to the point of contempt.
He wasn't too impressed with new single, which is fair enough. He's entitled to his opinion but it's not the abomination he claims it to be. I'm sure Alan Dunn is as good a keyboardist as Fingers and Darren could don the dark glasses to be Gerry Cott. It's never going to be 1979 again and most likely the new album will have a distinctive modern feel. Simon Crowe actually said it was better than the first couple of albums on his recent West Country radio interview.
Bob went to see Garry and Simon at one of their gigs in London so Bob must have been ok with the idea of the drummer and guitarist earning a little bit of money.
There were some shenanigans around the use of the name at the time. So they didn't use "The", and it was often post-fixed with "Roberts & Crowe". I can't imagine Geldof was too worried about the money they earned between 2008 & 2012 as it probably wasn't that much. In fact, he probably doesn't care too much for it now. Probably just a drop in the ocean.
I vaguely remember seeing that thread before, so the Amazon review is now in context. As Noel says, he really has a grudge against Garry and Simon which is way out of line.
As regards the forum, is flouncing off the answer? He obviously misses it, because he checks in as to what we sad souls are discussing. Couldn't he just have apologised for his language and moved on? Sorry does seem to be the hardest word...
As regards the forum, is flouncing off the answer?
Seems to be. Lots of flouncing off down the years. Normally caused by yours truly
In the end, you may be the only one left then! I wonder if you could start an argument in an empty room, as my nan used to say?!
I'm always last man standing. Most jobs, a few social groups, sports teams. Every one leaves or gets sacked, but I just keep hanging on to the bitter end. I am not particularly argumentative, except on the internet. I often get kept on as I am the least confrontational person. Shocked my last employer when I resigned, they thought I was really happy there as I never complained!
So no, I would be unable to start an argument in an empty room.

What about an empty forum?! I was in euphemism mode.
It's funny you should say that. I had a complaint made against me at work a few years back and my boss told the complainant he couldn't believe it because I was one of the most laid back and least confrontational people he had ever employed!

Maybe. I have been known to be the only person to reply numerous times to a thread I started. That written, looking at very old posts, I tend to agree with most of what I wrote at the time!
Yeah it does seem a bit right in there. But in my opinion Bob Boomtown is much better than bob solo Don't get me wrong BOB has done some great solo stuff . But like most of you I have been to see him live and when he does the rat songs the are not as good as when he does the same songs with the rats
And no harm to Geldof. But he's no sting or Paul. I don't think his solo would have gone as good as them two guys. His 1st solo album had all sorts of top backing starts on it and it still did'nt do much in the charts
