Both these songs from Minehead are now on YouTube. I've listened a few times. Initial feeling is one of disappointment. Too many oh oh he's in Get a Grip. One part sounds like I Don't Want To Go To Chelsea mixed with 'swamp rock'. Way to repetitive. Might work better on the recorded version where the whole thing is generally more structured.
She Said No might sound better on the record. Geldof's tendency to invoke the audience to song along is a bit annoying. Lots of repeating 'she said no'. I've always preferred the records to live versions as a general rule. Bob's tendency to try to whip the audience up often overshadows the subtlety in the music, nevermind him flattening out a lot of the vocal melody in his songs. The live versions can sound 'bulldozed' if that makes sense!
Anyway everyone can and will make up their own minds.

I am going to resist listening to anything from the LP in any form until it is released. But I have an uneasy feeling, I won't like it.
PS - Thanks for the B Side MP3 (and Mark L as well). I have yet to listen to it. I have been busy with a lot of birthday nonsense since last Thursday. I may only have a birthday every four years, but I seem to have spent five days celebrating it I watched Arsenal with different cohorts on 27th Feb, 28th Feb and 2nd Mar, which along with a boozy brunch on Saturday has made it a long drawn out drunken affair. Also there seems to be another Arsenal game this weekend when I be going with someone else...
I thought Get A Grip sounded brilliant, the guitar play after about 2.30 minutes is exellent. She Said No was also good. Both sound a bit bluesy to me,a bit Mary of The 4th Form(ish)about them.I am still exited for the new album.

I think both of these songs will sound better on the album. Live music tends to miss a lot of the detail that the recorded version has. This goes for almost every band.
The 20 second clip of Sweet Thing did impress me. I just get the feeling that I will only really like two or three of the tracks but I hope to be pursueded otherwise.

I liked the 20 second clip of Sweet Thing, but then I liked the 30 second clip of Trash Glam Baby. Perhaps there is a single mix of the LP
As an aside I do remember getting a flexi disc of a band called Straight Eight when they supported Queen back in the 1980s and the track was snippets from their album tracks.
BMG have put up posters around Dublin for Citizens of Boomtown album. I spotted one today. It quotes from Uncut 8/10 review and displays the album cover.

This is where having a big label helps.
I havent seen a poster in London. But then again, I havent been anywhere apart from Highbury & Canary Wharf in recent days.

Given that a few people think the Rats have taken a turning towards Suede's sound, the Freudian slip by use of 'pursueded' is a classic!

Of the four songs I've heard from the album things not looking too good. The remaining six songs better be a marked improvement. A few of the more critically rated songs like Monster Monkeys and Heres a Postcard I've still got to hear.
Suede were a great band, great lyrics 'loved up, doved up, on the pill, got too much time to kill'.

As a pretty big suede fan, I don't hear any hints of the suede sound in what I have heard so far.
I have only heard the eponymous song and the Trash Glam song (along with a snippet of Sweet Thing), and will avoid until next weekend. Seeing Bryan Ferry on Friday 13th, so won't distract myself until the Saturday.
30 second snippet of Monster Monkeys is now on Rats FB.
I like it. Melody sounds like Come Together by The Beatles. Bob's singing is better too, less croaky and more like proper singing. Nice emotional tone to vocals. Has the feel of an experimental/spontaneous type track which Bob talks about doing in some of his recent interviews. This and Sweet Thing give me some hope.

This may be next single but that is just a hunch.
Sweet Thing is far better than Monster Monkeys. Funny how we all interpret songs differently and I will wait to hear the whole song before fully judging, but initial thoughts are it's the weakest song I've heard yet and should not be considered for single release. If the far more catchy TGB cannot get radio play, this certainly won't. Their experimental sounding endeavours, a la the Little Death and Mood Mambo, are inevitably disasters. Disappointing.

It's hard to judge with such a short sample. That sounds like the intro of the song, it might have wings and take off.
TGB doesn't do it for me in terms of being catchy. I think the chorus is weak and a bit strained, and seems to kinda flatline. Bob's vocals sound strained and croaky. On Monster Monkeys he sounds like his old self, for me anyway. Geldof actually says the song is 'based on' Sympathy For the Devil, the band sort of doing a live jam type thing. I think they then recorded the album version but that was how it originated.
I'd say perhaps Elephants Graveyard was the ultimate catchy Rats song, just the sheer melody and exuberance of the whole thing.
Certainly is fascinating how people differ in their interpretations.

100% agree on the Elephants Graveyard. It was a big surprise it stalled at 26.
