I wonder if its been shortened on account of RTE adverts etc? Still, 93 mins is awesome.

Really look forward to this. Possibly a bigger audience than would otherwise be the case due to continuation of lockdown.

Lockdown effect on people: drunky, chunky, hunky.

Wish it was the last, more accurately it's the first two

Well I'm gonna have a Tonic For The Troops. Day on Saturday. Saying it was ( is ) the best album of 1978. Do the living room up in rat's poster's. Nothing but rat songs from 1978 only will be played on a loop. Starting of with How do you do.

Rave reviews in the Press for this, with nearly everyone giving it four or five stars. Pick of the Day in a lot of the media.

Yeah. I think alot of people will watch this. Due to the lockdown. Plus there's normally sweet F A on a Saturday night. The only disappointing thing for me. Was Finger's doesn't have any input. That's all I'll say. So enjoy all you rat fans who have yet to see this.

Really enjoyed that. Some great unseen clips for me and some great memories too. Someone messed up the song title credits at the end and the invoice showed a 100 Rats not a thousand, but it would have made no difference. Such a shame MTV didn't come along a year earlier, but then Band Aid might then not have happened. Some present day Fingers input would have been good, but I was overall very impressed with it. Forgot coronavirus for 91 mins!

I am only halfway through watching. So far so very good. My sister (who isn't a fan) found the documentary so good she watched it all which she didn't expect and my son said it wasn't not interesting and was amazed at how big The Rats were at one point. He just thought they were some obscure band I liked from way back.

That the film engaged a couple of non fans is some testament to how good it it.

My brother watched it all the way through and texted me after to say he thought it was great. He has been to gigs with me and probably fair to say I indoctrinated him from an early age! Other family members, I'm not sure about, but they did get notifications last week and yesterday to remind them!

Really enjoyed it and so nice to hear the other band members for a change talk at length. Only downside for me, probably not surprisingly, is the way they sped through the Mondo, V Deep and Long Grass lp's. Hope this comes out on DVD at some point.

For an hour or so this was brilliant as the story of The Rats.  Had they ended it with Leixlip and Banana Republic that would have been perfect. After that, it wasnt really about the band but about Geldof and how the band became an adjunct.  Interesting enough, but after the meteoric rise and the impact they had up until the end of 1980, a bit of a downturn.  Not even sure why Geldof solo was shoehorned in. And the rock dragger? What the fcuk was that about?

But all in all, great to see a film about the glory days.

It's the story of The Boomtown Rats you couldn't finish their story without including anything after Leixlip Castle. Their fall from favour is well-documented. The solo stuff had to be talked about as it seemed to be Bob's solo record deal offer that was a catalyst for the split. I personally would have liked a little more on the new record. It was a much more excited piece than alot of the more standard BBC Four type documentaries where it can be a little static.

Arguably, the story ended with Banana Republic as the final pay off.  What happened after that was irrelevant as far as the Rats were concerned.  The rest was the Geldof story. Thats another tale.

One thing that came out of the movie to me was how the failure to break America was the catalyst of the decline. The ex-Columbia exec had an interesting take that they needed to write about America. Mondays and Guilty did fit the bill, but the former was effectively banned and the latter made zero impact. Up All Night did get a fair amount of airtime on MTV in US and trumped Guilty as the A-side.

http://popdose.com/best-of-lost-in-the-80s-year-one-boomtown-rats/

I Dont Like Mondays peaked at #73 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Up All Night/Elephants Graveyard peaked at #54 as a double A-side 12 on the Billboard Club Play chart.
Rain did not chart.

The story didn't finish for the rats in the documentary after Banana Republic. You can't not include Band Aid and Live Aid. It explains the animosity and the split. They also performed on the Band Aid record and at Live Aid. The Self Aid performance was very interesting and the backstage footage of the breakup was exactly about the band

The story did not finish for the Rats in real life after Banana Republic, so it was correct that the documentary reflected this. The decline of the Rats created the conditions for Geldof to see and react to the now famous BBC news report, so Band Aid etc has to be in it. The eventual break up of the Rats was hastened by the variety of charity endeavours they participated in but which were organised and spearheaded by Geldof. However, a little more on the attempted fight back with ITLG (a reference to Dave maybe too?),  the reformation of the band for the Isle of Wight and the new album would have been better than the gimp hauling boulders through dirty alleys.

Great documentary and filled in a few gaps for me. Most interesting bit for me was Garry Roberts explaining the split into 2 groups-Bob/Pete and Simon/Johnny with him in the middle. Explains Pete playing with Bob and the formation of Gung-Ho.......leaving Garry in the mire, and the reason for his PTSD.

Great documentary and watched it with my 15 year old son who found it interesting.

Looks like this documentary has put the rats back on top form. But all is rat fans new they were always on top form. Good that it's got people talking about them and the music. Also nice to see that people are buying the CDs again. All new fans are always welcome. Enjoy everyone.

Hopefully this is put out on DVD. With extras. Don't see any reason as to why it wouldn't be.
