From the Irish Independent today. Being notoriously tight - will he go out and celebrate?
Geldof joins rich list with €51m fortune
BOB Geldof is the surprise new entry into a list of the country's richest entertainers.
The former lead singer of The Boomtown Rats takes fifth place in the table with €51m.
The 54-year-old spearheaded last year's Make Poverty History campaign with U2 frontman, Bono, after organising the hugely successful Live Aid in 1985.
According to compilers of The Sunday Times Rich List 2006, his shares in his television production company Ten Alps have soared and he also has a €29m stake in reality TV production firm Castaway Productions. U2 scoop first place in the list and are now worth an enviable €690m.
Digital and album sales plus box office receipts earned the band more than €215m last year alone.
Dancer Michael Flatley takes second place with €551m after the huge popularity of 'Lord of the Dance' and 'Celtic Tiger', which opened in Dublin last night.
He has earned at least €196m from these performances with an additional £147m coming from the value of his brand.
A billion in the bank: Irish stars top 'rich list'
It's a strange list........You don't have to actually live in Ireland to be included, and you don't have to actually be Irish.......For am I right in saying Michael Flatley is American? So maybe if you can do Irish dancing you can be included?
Can't imagine Bob counts his money in Euros anyway! Wasn't he a bit outspoken against the Euro at a time?
