http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/tm_objectid=16993344&method=full&siteid=66633&headline=bob-snubs-tories--name_page.html BOB GELDOF has snubbed the first meeting of David Cameron's global poverty task force. Geldof raised eyebrows by becoming an adviser to the Tory policy review group. But the Live8 organiser is gigging in South Africa and won't return for today's talks. Ann McKechin, Labour MP for Glasgow North, said this wasn't a surprise, claiming Tory leader Cameron has done little on global poverty. She said: "There's been spin and photo opportunities but no substance."
The article's title is irritating and misleading. If Bob has agreed to advise the conservative party on global poverty it is because he has experience in the field. Not all his suggestions would necessarily be of use to David Cameron who has the task of analysing the oinformation selecting policies that he belies to be the most viable. Equally is is silly to criticise the conservatives for past inactivity when they are sensibly seeking the benefit of expert opinion. It is unfair to say that Bob has snubbed the tories becasue he has a serious work commitment. The conservatives would not have asked for his opinions if he did not travel to South Afica because there would be no expertise to share ideas with. It is only one of a series of meetings by the sound of the article so presumably he is going to different or subsequent meetings. He seemed quite happy to share knowledge of potential pitfalls otherwise politicians would miss opportunities to help.
