Let's help each other out here if we can. Arr Gee, I have put a link to your blog on my new website, so could you do me a favour and do the same. Anyone else out there in the same position. I will link you, if you link me. I really think we should all pull together here if we are to survive.
Maybe it is more for people like Arr Gee and myself, who have had useful links to our sites cut. Mine is not yet registered fully with Google or Yahoo. It takes up to 3 months to come up in a search seemingly. It was just a thought.

I will put links up that relate to the Boomtown Rats, but not Geldof individually.
I emailed Eddy last night (after the chat) and asked him if he would put a link to this (the fans' forum) on his site as I couldn't find one on there.
I also did a search on Geldof forum and this comes up straightaway. However, a search on Geldof doesn't produce it on the front page. How do we register with Google and Yahoo etc or amend our search criteria?

There are things you can do, but essentially it really depends on the popularity of your pages. My blog generally hits about top 50 in Rat related searches (nogeldof.info is only top 30, so I'm catching up!)
Searching for "Boomtown Rats" will bring up the sites with a lot of traffic like Amazon. Restricting with an extra word like "Bolton" will put it at the top (OK 2nd!).
In the meantime, I have put us on wikipedia (the third most popular result for a boomtown rats search; second most popular for Geldof)
we should all pull together here if we are to survive.- here here!!
as i said in the other post: (too upset to write different response)
bloody hell!!! sacre bleu! i can't believe all this has happened in the last couple of hours! i was on this forum last night and everything was wonderfully normal. i've only been to school and back how could this have happened i'm confused, very upset and in a state of shock. what the hell is going on
ArrGee wrote: essentially it really depends on the popularity of your pages. How is that measured? Should we obsessively hit "refresh"?
Refresh probably won't do it, but getting your friends to click on the opening page and so on would. Yahoo/Google record "hits" as ip addresses on particular pages, but they do "promote" the official sites to the top. But that would mean getting an official url and that costs money.
Once your site starts getting hits, you can go up quite quickly. My blog has risen quickly and now I get a trickle of emails on things I have written. This forum does appear quite a lot on the more popular topics.
Hits from different computers? Or does it not matter. i.e. if I keep going out and coming back in again will it make a difference or do I need to do it from different source?
We've been disowned. We are not wanted and not cared about. It seems some of our discussions weren't to taste. It was frowned upon if we discuss anything other than music and because we have deviated we are no longer a feature on the website.
I feel very disappointed indeed. Having been a very loyal fan for 29 years I feel I deserve some respect!! And that's just one person speaking. Personally, I've been as respectful as I could be, avoiding personal discussions and hoping that nothing I say would offend anybody. And for that, I have been offended?
There is a bit more on this on other threads, you might need to piece it all together to get the full picture.
so is any1 going to explain in full what has actually happend?
In the beginning there was a Geldof message board, called voy.com. This was replaced by a bells & whistle forum created by MJ. This was so popular that the folks at bobgeldof.info made it the official forum. Then one day, this forum collapsed in a heap and suddenly died (no one knows why!). Anyway, Tina then created this forum. And asked me to do some admin on it.
Now Geldof never wanted an "official" forum and warned of the perils. Despite numerous threats of closing the forum through Clash Wars, Live 8 and cancelled concerts, the forum still maintained a link with the main bobgeldof.info site and had their qualified blessing
However, Ian decided to remove the link to here from bobgeldof.info altogether at the weekend. I was alerted to this and removed our link to bobgeldof.info.
The reasons for the removal of the link are not very clear, but seem to stem from discussing Geldof's sex life, his religious beliefs and criticism of the site.
These are the facts as I see them.
I) Two threads on an affair with Claire King with less than a dozen posts between them is the only recent discussion of his sex life. One post was edited as it contained unsubstantiated accusations, but the threads were left as the information is in the public domain.
II) A thread on Religion that concluded in November last year is the only reference to religious belief I can find. In that thread, there is a link to a source where Geldof declares himself as athiest, so all discussion of his beliefs is effectively quashed by that!
III) The criticism of the site was in a PRIVATE forum which I believe was read by Geldof and/or Pete Briquette, neither of who are registered users and shouldn't have been reading those threads.
So that leaves this forum no longer recognised by the website. And vice versa.

from what i have read i was afraid that was the case. i really can't believe it.. where else is a younger person supposed to go to talk about their idol, their favourite musical artist, the person they admire most? when everyone around them has no idea who this person is? i'm devastated

While I've heard those concerns before, and they've been posted again here today; that did not appear to be Ian's reasoning in chat last night. Last night, he seemd to be complaining primarily about receiving a lot of offensive email. How removing the link to the forum will decrease the email flow, I don't understand - seems it would only INCREASE....but....none of it makes much sense.
I hope I have not been misleading everybody here, but I think maybe I have. I will not divulge the exact text of Tina's email. She did say they were in part responding to criticisms and speculation of Bob's personal life, though she did not mention specifically sex or religion.(I could not think what else it could be, after looking at recent posts). Maybe I put words in her mouth and if I did, I apologise now. But criticism of the website was right up there.
It baffles me why anyone should be so interested in the sex life of Bob Geldof or indeed anyone else. With regard to Pete and or Bob reading the forum whilst not registered, don't be silly, Bob own's the damn site it's associated with and has every right to read it. However, we aren't sure he actually does. Thanks to these nasty postings, Ian has had a huge bollocking and is under threat of being dismissed.
As I have stated before, the site is about Bobs music, therefore anything that deviates from this and is associated with the site, has to be sanctioned first.
When you say there is no information on the site, how do you think Eddy gets the dates, releases, etc?? Like I stated, no-one has ever telephones either myself or Ian, so people can't be that bothered.
There will be a new review soon courtesy of Katharina and Corinna.
These postings are a very predictable reaction to recent events. If you did not anticipate it, I think you were being quite naive.
Further, I can't agree with "discussing his sex life" as being the root cause. I've never seen much space given to discussions of Bob's sex life, because any inappropriate posts were always promptly deleted.
I don't want this to turn into some kind of personal war, but that doesn't mean to say I don't have opinions on what's been happening. Not that you wouldn't know that by now.
Tina, WHAT nasty postings in paricular? Can you give us a clue please. I dont see any that warrant Ian getting into trouble. Nobody means to be nasty, I am sure, or means to cause offence.

He has, but the PRIVATE forums were meant for those who registered.
None of that stuff was for public consumption, and could not be read by anyone outside the invited circle. One of the main reasons for that was to discuss the forum. Yourself and Ian were part of it and could express the views on that forum to Bob and his management without necessarily disclosing the entire discussions.
A lot of stuff was kept in the private forums, and very few people were ever invited onto them.
When you say there is no information on the site, how do you think Eddy gets the dates, releases, etc??
Then why have the bobgeldof.info site?
If I want to find out about Geldof, I would go to www.bobgeldof.info The Official Website of Bob Geldof NOT http://www.happyfanclub.itThe Italian Bob Geldof fan club. Personally speaking, I don't really like the Happy fan club, as it isn't particularly easy to read and lacks any depth of coverage. I rarely ever go there.
If I search for Geldof on google/yahoo etc. www.happyfanclub.it is not produced in the top 100 results.
