Two Minute Hate: John Borrell Wednesday, 11 October, 2006
Just how seriously are we expected to take a man in a white man-sized baby grow? He looks like he’s just stepped of the set of the Daz Doorstep Challenge. With songs that are, indeed, about as linguistically advanced as box of soap powder. Hey girl, get on the dance floor/And rip it up, yeah/That’s what it’s there for.
And can someone please explain this Dylan-complex he’s got going on? This guy thinks he’s pretty big time, celebrating himself as the greatest songwriter of his generation and professing to be better than Bob Dylan. And I met a girl/She asked me my name/And I told her what it was. Inspired.
No wonder he’s routinely hated by all fellow artistes who come into contact with him, namely Pete Doherty, the guy from the Kooks…In fact, so disliked is Borrell, having a spat with him is now seen as a way for new bands to affirm their music credentials. You’re not anyone until you’ve slated Borrell. It’s the new skinny jeans.
If you ask me, Razorlight definitely have the touch of the Boomtown Rats about them, Borrell certainly has a whiff of the Geldof. But at least Geldof had the good sense to stop with that music lark and have a bash at saving the world. I’m not sure even a resolution to world hunger could redeem Borrell now.
Does anyone really give a damn about the scribblings of some jumped up little cow in the Stoooodent "Newspaper" of some jumped up Tech College having the cheek to call itself a Yuoooni now?
Southampton University - the ****s that cleaned out their own libraries' archives for materials that were not "politically correct", & in doing so handed on a plate to others stuff that they could easily have sold to other tertiary educational institutions for thousands of pounds. Bright as a blackout, that lot!
