Forgotten BTRs film? -Teacher's Pet

I only found this recently. Bob Geldof and the Boomtown rats in a film witht the late Jon Candy and Ricardo Montlaban. This is said to have inspired the movie To Sir With Love. Does anybody know anything about it? Was it ever shown? Looks like an American TV movie. The boys are very young in it and the acting is terrible, but it is quite funny to watch now, And Bob does look dishy in a suit and bow tie.

In 2 parts

Seemingly it was a TV series in 1982 by SCTV and they seemed to have diffrent guest artists. That is about all I know.

Yes, if you ever get to see a whole episode of SCTV, you'd see they liked to write their musical guest stars into the scripts.  This was because they were budgeted to be a variety show by their network (CBC I believe) [much like the Young Ones were budgeted as a variety show by the BBC], and that was their creative way of dealing with it.

[So basically think about Saturday Night Live (NBC) type sketch comedy BUT WAY BETTER and unknown by some.]

They wanted to do their improv. sketch comedy.  In most cases, the musical guests loved the opportunity to be sketches.  In the episode the Rats are on, they are also "blown up" on the Farm Report (a recurring sketch featuring John Candy).  [I live in MN and grew up close enough to the border to have a couple of Canadian TV channels on our cable.  Yes, we had Canadian TV in Northern Minnesota, but no MTV.  LOL]

If you ever get a chance to see SCTV, I would strongly recommend it.  The whole cast was talented: John Candy, Joe Flaherty, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Catherine O'Hara, Dave Thomas, Rick Moranis and Martin Short (at his very, very best on this show).  Also Harold Ramis started out on the first couple of seasons of this show before he went on to write such movies as Meatballs, Caddyshack, Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day.  [Well, I really liked Groundhog Day - I think that one will stand the test of time.]

Peace & take care,
