The 12" of Someone's looking is the abridged version. The album mixes aren't as good as the single mixes, so best they weren't on 12".
The main era of 12" was about 1982, when remix versions were all the rage. The Rats got this treatment for House on Fire, Charmed Lives and Tonight with extra tracks for the rest post 1982. Banana Republic came a little before, but would have been good for a dub mix.

I don't understand (probably my ignorance): how can the 12inch be the abridged version? Surely it would be longer by definition (5inches longer?!)
That said, the 12inch of 'This is the World Calling' was kind of abridged: the song was much longer than the 7inch but was missing the middle 8 entirely.

The 12" mix of Someone's Looking is the same as the 7" mix but abridged from the album mix which contains the guitar solo. The 12" mix is the same duration as the 7" despite being 5" longer.
Technically the needle only travels 2" more (the other half inch is lost in increased label size and additional run off), but the length of the groove can four times as long (though only about double the recording time), so more record is covered.
The advantage of 12" is there is less groove cramming, so the sound is deeper and more resonant hence it was/is used in discotheques. Apparently Love to Love You Baby was the first 12" single.
To be honest I cannot remember as it has been so long since I played it.I think it is the same version as the album one but please do not quote me on that as I do not have a record player at the moment.

I did disconnect my cassette player recently as it is now finally 100% obselete, but I still have a few blank C90s. Likewise the VHS video player, though I do intent hang onto it as I still have a few videos worth watching that never made it to DVD or You Tube.
