Some have pretty decent teeth and are very young yet decide to have them all removed and replaced with implants to get the perfect smile. I doubt Geldof has any judging by the recent Berlin broadcast, well nothing obvious.

I'm getting one at the beginning of March. I used to have a crown but it fell off and took most of the tooth with it. They did mention dentures, but my dental plan covered an implant (well mostly) so I'm having one. Dentures are pretty cr@p from what I understand, likewise bridges.

I found it pretty sad. Poor fella, fancy having not eaten an apple for umpteen years. It was odd that the set they gave him first looked bad to fit in with his image. Wasn't surprised he rejected them and went for a more pearly white set. I almost joined the temperance movement after seeing that show. Drink, fags and drugs do you no good!

I reckon if it weren't for dentistry we'd see a tonne of people with wonky, crooked teeth and quite a few gummy smiles too on tv lol

I don't know why I'm telling you this Arrgee but I have a small front denture. I remember a friend being dramatic before I had the front tooth finally removed because she had a denture at the front too and went on to tell me how terrible it all was and that if there was any way on earth I could, I should go with an alternative option. lol. actually I've got so used to it it's like a part of me and it's not so terrible at all. it's very comfortable actually.

How did this go? I am in exactly the same position and a 34 year old effort (tbf they said it would last 15 years) has given up the ghost and an implant suggested as the underlying peg tooth is rotten. Got no insurance :(

Implant is great. No maintenance. Would recommend,

However, there may be complications. I ended up with an infection in another part of my body (in the err trouser department) when they did the extraction which led to stronger anti-biotics. I also seem to have tinnitus in the ear on the same side which may or may not coincidental (no pun intended).

It is very expensive. I had to split the cost over two years to have the insurance cover it as it was £2,400. Luckily I only paid 20% of that (just under £500). Might be more now.

Thanks. I have been quoted £1859 (is there such a thing as a poor dentist?!) but then possibly it hasn't been bumped up as no insurer involved. I see certain medications are implicated in the development or worsening of tinnitus:

The trouser department infection seems a very unlucky complication. Was it ever explained how that could happen? I don't relish that particularly...!

if you'd of asked me once about dentures i'd of gone oh nooooooooooo what a terrible thing to have to have!

Then i got one.

Front single tooth denture.

It's so not as bad as all that.

not sure what i think about a whole set though

i dont think about it usually

i've got pretty rubbish teeth. too much smoking. gum disease. stained. what a pretty picture i paint. tryin to quit the fags. failed twice this year. which, bearing in mind they say on average it takes a smoker 6 attempts to quit to finally succeed, means i am two steps closer to succeeding. amen to that.

Similar with heaps of fillings and crowns. In my case red wine and coffee rather than smoking is the cause of the staining. And I ain't giving them up!

That said in recent years I don't have gum disease anymore. The extra strong anti-biotics used to clear up my other issue has seen that off for good.

At least all bar one of my teeth are still in my head. My dad lost all of his by the age of 40 and Mrs. ArrGee's parents have similar experiences. My mum has kept all of hers, but she has a bulging case file at her dental surgery. Needs a filing cabinet draw to itself!

Got two or three fillings and then this peg tooth capped..otherwise not too bad. But it always seems a rather painful affair every 6 months to keep it that way with the hygienist first, followed by the debit card!

And now 'the peg lateral' cap is giving up the ghost..... and the cost is frightening!!
