Me and Mrs Uka were watching a recording of the current BBC4 documentary (if you will, 'rockumentary'), 'Britain's Most Dangerous Songs: Listen to the Banned'. I haven't seen the ending yet, no spoilers please. There's a piece about songs banned by the BBC during the first Gulf War and Mrs Uka spots '...

What a day - glorious weather, and I switched on BBC Radio Norfolk. DJ Stephen Bumfrey played Looking After Number One. At the end of the song he said "I have loved the Boomtown Rats ever since I first saw them on Top of The Pops". He then went on to talk about Fingers in his striped pyjamas.

It was one of those very rare occasions yesterday when they actually played a Rats song on VH1 classic. Of course it was Mondays. We were sitting discussing where the house is at the end of the video. Someone suggested Wales. Does anyone have any idea? It looks pretty but somewhat remote!

Needless to say not a fan. But the upcoming 5 night concerts by garth Brooks have been cancelled. Was due to cater for 400,000 at Croke Park. Due to local objections and late planning by Peter Aiken Promotions, and Brooks insistence on a '5 days or none' policy it has all fallen through. Huge story in Ire...

Now I could read so much into that, but I suspect there will be some extra time after November. And penalties After last years storming of the Isle of Wight Festival stage an exhilarated Bob Geldof said "It's weird. I'd forgotten how powerful a band The Rats are!" Others hadn't. W...
So who saw Dolly at Glastonbury at the festival or on the telly? Is Dolly about the 'nicest' it gets in the world of celebrities? I mean yeh she's cheesy as hell and her face and boobs are fake of course. lol - I expect there are feminists out there that hate her look. But she is 'nice' isn't she? she just see...
Noticed from the live gigs that there are a few times when the 'proper endings' to the songs are missed by some(not all!) fans. EG 1 Joey - ends with 'joey won't you please come home' etc, though this is not on the record. EG 2 Banana Republic- should end with 'how many rivers to cross before I find my way hom...

I've just watched Good Vibrations on dvd about Terri Hooley, the godfather of Belfast punk. In his record shop there is a poster of a person carrying a severed head with the name of the band Rudi on it. The Boomtown Rats used a virtually identical poster. Does anyone know which of the two bands was the fir...

The Knock Out Stages Some surprising eliminations in the group stage, particularly I Don't Like Mondays. Reply and just leave the song you want to proceed to the quarter finals. I won't vote, but will have a casting vote at the end should there be draws. I just hope there are an odd number of replies.L...
Not the television shows spots or concert footage but things like the 'Dave', 'drag me down' or 'a hold of me' videos. I would be really interested to find out
Give or take I would say the current setlist is perfect. A nice emphasis towards their earlier rock material and less dance music of their later career. There are some songs that'd be cool to see at all or on a more regular basis for me (Elephant's Graveyard, Me And Howard Hughes) and also (Drag Me Down)....

What do people think of Loudmouth?.Good or Bad.No Dave but Beat Of The Night.Only one new song Crazy.Good effort or missed chanced to do something better?.I for one would have put songs like Dave,August Was A Heavy Month and Happy Club on it.
Way back when the whole re-issues thing was about to come out there was talk of the RTE Rats in America appearing on DVD, but as it didn't appear on either, I guess it is lost forever.
Also with the court case looking less and less likely to happen, and pretty much everything the Rats ever made now availa...
Firstly I'm new to this forum, so hi. Being a Rats fan since 1978 I've waited years for my favourite songs to be released on CD. I've also got the DVd and great it is too. But I've been wondering, what else is there?
Was there ever proper video's for House on Fire, Charmed Lives? Also for releases oversea...
This was shortly after the greatest hits compilatiom, about 4 years ago. Some of you will probably have seen it. . I fully admit I hardly understand a word of it Part of the interview goes as follows.-Well, a sort of epiphany: I was in a great band. And its very cool to be at 53 and realise that when you wer...
Hi Folks,
Small word of warning about the DVD.
The videos they have for "Looking After Number One" and "Someone's Looking At You" are not the actual promo videos from the time.
The first one is taken from the old "Tonic For The Troops" live video, whilst the second is taken from video footage of th...
I was reflecting on the song 'Tonight' in another thread and wondered how to describe BG repeatedly singing the word "tonight" at the end. Is this technically a chorus? Anyhow, after further reflection I'm left wondering: as regards lyrics, are there any great BTR choruses? Here's a hig...

I would love it If the Rats did come out with the best of, as in singles only. As much as I like the Lp version's of Mondays,Someones looking, Mary, Elephant's graveyard, Banana republic & House of fire. I love the single version's of them songs. And I find it very hard to get them on cd Anyone agree

I've done 2 Rats cover versions which I hope to release during 2007.
Today (my birthday) I went to a store to check out some studio monitors as I need some pro ones to mix the tracks. The shop assistant plugged in his ipod and used Mondays and Looking After Number One to demonstrate the monitors....

Poor Vince (Bob's violinist for those who don't know of him) had a heart attack last week, but is recovering well I believe. Hope he can manage the Italian gig at the end of the month. look forward to seeing him again. Show would not be the same without him.
A short glimpse of the Rats backstage at Self Aid at what would be their last performance for a long while. Starts at 38 secs. Also the old herring about the first Irish number one gets 'discussed', with Bob showing a good sense of humour about it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0GrsSnPA8U
Well I thought I'd start the ball rolling here. I have tickets to see The Beautiful South this June and some friends are hoping to get tickets for a tribute band. This time T-Rextesy. I hope they are good.
I didn't try to get tickets for U2, anyone lucky enough to manage that?
After all these years still a bit confused about first verse MATT lyrics. Can anyone help? Hey you, can you feel the spark? And you do you have a need? (think he's saying need!) For the last week or more I've been working my way through the 6 album back catalogue of The Doors. I had only been aware, mainly, of their well known singles, but listening to the album tracks what a great band they were. Love the organ/keyboard sound, great tunes and nice to discover lots of great song...
The only concert I have definitely decided to go to so far is Cheltenham in June. I hope to go to some more but so far have not decided. The one in Kent seems a good bet too though I am still a long way from bothering with tickets. Has anyone made any definite early decisions. Plymouth seems a bit too close to C...
Recent thread on best lines got me wondering about the various uncredited or anonymous contributions across Rats repertoire, such as the Whitehall 1212 vocals mentioned. Any certainty out there about who said:- Can I speak to Blake of the Yard? To Whom? I't's a Fair Cop Guv (Bob?) Are you really goi...
From 1994, note how restrained Bob is when Christian forces £10 into his jacket, to assist with Bob's 'bankruptcy'. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xv9FE8w5SL4
Anyone recall this? Can't find anything on You Tube with Bob as a guest but pretty sure he appeared three times on this and that it ran from '81 to 84? Sure he was on once with Midge and Holly Johnson and recall in '83 he appeared in a very bright orange jumper and looked uneasy to me as the other 5 team member...
How come 'I don't like Mondays - the story behind the song' is showing 10000 plus views? Is this the most viewed post? Could well be since it's been around since 2006. Also, whenever I log on, there's generally only a handful of others on at the same time max, no matter what time of day it is. What was it abou...
Don't know if you have seen this excellent comedy, but some extra kudos for being the first sit com to feature a Geldof solo track in the season two finale. Won't write anymore as it would spoil the show and best you watch both series first.
I'm not paying £60 for that! The south line up looks hellish. Maybe if Thompson Twin, Tony Hadley, Bonnie Tyler and Howard Jones (FFS! Will he have the mime artist in tow?) weren't on the bill it might be tolerable, but even then I wouldn't consider going to see any of the others in their own right. ...
If a full film of the set exists- please can it released online. It is a perfect momento or the reunion and probably the best quality footage we are likely to get. I know about 5 songs from it are online- but it would be great to see the whole thing.
Happy St Pats to all the Irish around the world. Plus the one's who think they are Irish and the one's who would love to be Irish. Anyone out there got abit of Irish in them. Just play the great song of indiff all day long on Monday. I don't mind at all.

HI- I'm not a hi- fi buff so I'm slightly out of my debt here. Does anybody on this forum listen to the Rats material on vinyl rather than cd and notice it it sounds better or more "authentic. Does anybody have an all time favourite Bob Geldof solo track, and for what reason(optional!) Two Geldof tracks in particular seem to just frequently pop into my head, One For You and My Hippy Angel, so those two songs are well up there in being favourites. Another high ranker is Scream In Vain. I reme...
Geldof did this show on RTE some years back I would love to see the Rats do this as well. It's a good show and it would be nice to hear the rats of the band have there say other than geldof all the time
