Hi everyone Ive been listening lately to a track called Dig A Ditch from the anthology and this song to me sounds most like a Boomtown Rats track in terms of energy passion and lyrics. Also a song called Talk Me Up which is the b side of World Calling and in my opinion a better track-Its got ratlike qualit...
I dont know about everybody else but my rough formula for rating albums is having four pointers - not very scientifically named 1 brilliant songs 2 very good songs 3 sort of ok/acceptable and 4 songs i activally dislike. Theres also the BTTSOIP factor- better than the sum of its parts. So thats how I...
Ever since he wrote Fever Pitch the story of an obsessive Arsenal fan (errr!) - a number of people who I met at the time said the book reminded them of me, some of his books have been too close for comfort! jay bennett's posthumous new album 'kicking at the perfumed air' has just been released and contains a cover of diamond smiles. The former Wilco guitarist must have been a fan of the Rats as it was his favourite BTR song and was recorded without the actual words written down so he acknowledges a few mig...
Yesterday the Boomtown Rats headlined the Big Rivers Festival, a free blues festival in the streets of Dordrecht. I enjoyed hearing all the familiar songs, and seeing Gary and Simon in the flesh! Here's a link to some pictures and a copy of the setlist: http://picasaweb.google.com/jehettema/Boo...

Could have put this in the previous thread but think the anniversary today deserves a thread of its own. I went onto youtube to find a video to put on my facebook page and given it is a while since I watched the dvd I got a little emotional watching this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaGnwx62FRU
25 years on. There is going to be a documentary on Absolute Radio Monday 12 July and 13 July. Bob will be talking to various performers etc. It is on at 10 pm..
I need help in winning a photo competition on facebook as I'm up against a serial competition competitor whose photo is terrible! Now the lady in 2nd is a decent sort and I'd be happy if she won but we both agree that the lady in 1st needs to be stopped! You will understand when you see her photo! To view all t...
Bob Geldof Vredenburg, Utrecht Netherlands Are you a music devotee and a great fan of Bob Geldof in particular? The Vredenburg in Utrecht, Netherlands, is hosting a spectacular music event: Bob Geldof will be playing a live concert on 17-10-2010! If you are dead eager to watch Bob Geldof in Netherla...
I wa sorry to hear of the death of Edinburgh blues singer Tam White, who died suddenly today at the age of 68. He had played with all the greats, Van Morrison , Al Green etc. He was also an actor, often in the likes of Taggart and Rebus. He was also in Braveheart, though I dont know if he had any scenes with Jean...
Seems like Gerry has dragged himself away from the dogs and the owls and made a record. You can listen to his solo guitar arrangement of Lennon & McCartney's "Eleanor Rigby" on the site. It's pretty good! Gerry entered the Glastonbury emerging talent competition - but sadly did no...
Rats are back in Germany, 1st time since 25 years !! May 11th Offenbach, KJK !!! If they're not that stupid and ignorant as one Bob Geldof, they'll show up. If they do, it'll be the greatest party of all time in Offenbach !! I can't wait !!!
I dont know if any other sad people like me watch Andrew Loyd Webber's "a search for Dorothy" on a Saturday. they are also trying to find a Toto. Who is their "canine expert"? None other than Gerry Cott.
I just found a short clip on youtube (1 minute 2 seconds) of Bob live from Dubai where he sings a song I have not heard before. It reminds me a bit of The Great Song Of Indifference.
I remember seeing 15 years ago on TV: Bob Geldof? (not sure), playing on Live Aid (not sure) a jig( not sure) with an old dancer who would sit and smoke most of the time, but once in a while stand up and dance. Does anyone know what it was, was it Bob Geldof? Was it Live Aid? Does anyone have a link to this clip so...
I have found a photographer, Robin Appleby, who was at Dubai and he took about 500 pics. He is gradually loading them onto flickr throughout the week. He says he had never been to a Geldof concert before, but it was "the best night he ever had" We can use them on myspace and facebook Jules, as lo...
Does anybody know anything about when the homepage is going to be updated. We are a couple of months away from a new album and the lack of promotion is not good.We need some INFO now.
Congratulations to Jules on passing the 4000 mark on facebook. A great achievement. Bob should be proud. Between Facebook and Myspace, there are nearly 7000 fans. I have already told Bob that I feel this is a very underused resource. I am sure we could be used more positively by him and management. Am I...
saw this really quite strange subject on another forum, so I thought I'd ask the same question here...see if we can get some action!!
the question is: which songs would you have played on your funeral? tough one..
On my funeral, whenever that may be, next week or in 60 years, I would want them to play...
Assuming some crossover here, but these are great re-issues, and all @ £6 each (excludes postage @ 50p/cd + 50p/order for UK).
How good would the Rats re-issues be if they matched these? Luckily, the only one I ever bought on CD was Get Happy

Bob's whole speech is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaoNCrf938E Also I like this funny one when Tutu tries to get him to comb his hair- a lost cause http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oldURY5Ayg
Though not at the same time. I even believe Fingers joined them on stage once, Simon Crowe with Thin Lizzy Video In May 1986, Thin Lizzy re-formed for the Self Aid concert organized in Eire by Bob Geldof, who replaced Lynott on vocals for the da...

Hi I am a new member and was wondering if anyone has The Gung Ho album and Gerry Cott's single The Ballard of The Lone ranger on good old fashioned cd? It's not a complete recording. I did...

Come on guys - what's the most embarrassing item in your record collection? What's the cd you kick under the sofa if the cool new neighbour comes to visit unexpectedly?
For me, it's a seven inch single of the eighties band King - "Love and Pride" and a compilation cd called "Truckin'"...

I only found this recently. Bob Geldof and the Boomtown rats in a film witht the late Jon Candy and Ricardo Montlaban. This is said to have inspired the movie To Sir With Love. Does anybody know anything about it? Was it ever shown? Looks like an American TV movie. The boys are very young in it and the actin...
Anyone got any news on Mr Fingers rejoining the Rats!.According to the article I read Mr Crowe said that they asked the others but they were to busy.He did not mention JF.Can anybody shed some light on this.
I've been spending too much time sorting through my mp3s recently, but I have noticed that overall there is an positive effect when a girl is in a band.
The prime example is the Happy Mondays. Prior to Kirsty MacColl/Rowetta's backing vocals they were little more than your standard indie ban...
We have just had confirmation that Bob and the band will be playing a short tour in Sweden during December. Details are on www.bobgeldof.info Hope everyone is well Ian
http://johnpeel.umusic.co.uk/ A lavishly packaged 4CD set contains singles and Peel session recordings by some of Johns favourite artists including The Boomtown Rats; he was a fan in the early days, but I think he changed his mind about the Rats as time went on.... "We keep getting sessions p...

About 100 turned up for tonights show at the Ropetackle Arts Centre. The Rats looked relaxed and there was a lot of humour amongst the four of them, a lot of it surrounding the fact that Simons carpet under his drum kit kept moving causing him a bit of grief! Again i am impressed with the talents of Darren....

Did anyone know about this? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101435/ Bob appears in it! I just stumbled across it the other day. Then I thought I'd look for it on DVD and had some difficulty - well unless I was prepared to pay around £40 and then I had trouble getting it for region 2. I found...

I'm missing the following frew tracks from my collection of Bob Geldof stuff, and wondered if anyone had MP3s of them they would be willing to share. Just to clarify - I have bought all of Bobs albums, and most of his 12" singles (old days) and CD singles over the years, so I'm not really trying to get...

A nice article about the 40th anniversay of Dublin's Simon Community, which cares for the homeless and destitute. Bob , of course worked for them as a volunteer when he was a teenager. he writes about this in his autobiography. It is nice to see he is not to "big" to still put his arm round a hom...
There is a cover of 'The Great Song Of Indifference' on Brendan Keeley's upcoming album 'Under a Celtic Star', being released in the UK Oct 5 (or Amazon now!) I'm not usually a fan of covers but this is actually quite good but I would say that as I know Brendan personally & he is a fabulous singer. H...
New song for climate change. I have tried embedding it with the embedding code, but on the preview, it just shows the code. Would it show the video on the actual post? here is the URL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBTZOg6l6cA
Hope Pete doesn't mind me copying his stuff here (but he has written it on YouBloom for all to see. Thought I'd share his news: Pete is currently in pre-production for the next Geldof CD. The Renaud album is now scheduled to start on the 13th. of April at Windmill Lane in Dublin. This will be a facinating m...
I have to apologise sincerely to those dedicated fans who signed up for the Geldof newsletter. This venture has been scrapped. It was totally outwith my control. The page is now going to be run by Tina, as from tomorrow. So dont send any more photos to me for upload please.
