http://www.bbc.co.uk/podcasts/series/frontrow Sadly the two of them didn't get together to discuss recent events in the Middle East. Might have been a bit tasty if they had! -- Edited by ArrGee on Tuesday 1st of March 2011 11:32:20 PM
Just wondering are there fans of the Boomtown Rats that have no interest in Bob Geldof's solo career and just couldn't be bothered to buy or get to hear his new material. I preferred Geldof's work with the Rats but have always remained interested in him as a singer and personality. I presume most fan...
if any one can help I am looking for the review I wrote of the Seattle show in 2002- I had a different pc back then and I cant find it Dale fodleg@yahoo.com
This is weird. In Eddy's article "An incredible history sometimes funny!" he recounts being asked by Tina & Ian about a cucumber! And not just an ordinary cucumber, but an inflatable one .?????? Does anyone know what they're on about or is it obvious and there's something I'm missi...
Years ago, back in the days of vinyl, I had a copy of Rat Tracks, an 12 inch EP imported from Canada. The choice of tracks always seemed odd to me until I acquired the Columbia 1992 CD release of Mondo Bongo. Anyhow... The stand out track for me was the live version of Nothing Happened Today. I always wonder...
Don't get carried away with this, and I have not even spoken to Bob or Willo about it yet. If we could organise a Bob Geldof.info fan convention and everyone had enough lead time, would we get the appropriate numbers? What I have in mind is suggesting we put on a nice intimate gig in the UK's m...
Ian is proposing a get together or "mingle" of Rats/Geldof fans , probably in London. The bobgeldof.com Mingle - Ian Gibbons from bobgeldof.com is kicking an idea about. Now we have active Facebook and Twitter profiles, there could be an opportunity to have regular events when likemin...
Does anyone think Play To Win by Gung Ho [Fingers/ Crowe] would make a good choice of a cover version by any up and coming band? Its a really good tune with great lyrics, and is in the spirit of The Boomtown Rats while being poppy and accessible at the same time. It always struck me as one that got away as the...
To follow on from suss`s names quiz ,i thought i`d have a go at a numbers quiz, just for fun. All these numbers appear in the lyrics to rats songs. They can be found on the re-issued cd`s. They must be a number ,rather than the word(5 not five) and be in lyrics not the title (whitehall 1212 does not count) HAV...
Now this is much better. Simple video. Do you like my new avatar? met Bob and Pete at the Youbloom awards last night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKckvz6eNFc -- Edited by Scottie on Friday 11th of February 2011 10:08:23 PM

Just trying to compile a best and worst of new album. Please post your top three favourite songs and two songs which are frankly not up to it. No need to expand or explain but you may if you wish. We'll see if any consensus emerges or do we have widely divergent views.
Ok, it sounds like a Beatles tribute, but if there is any song that a broad cross section of people would like, this is it. Personally I think Blow Fish and Six Pack are far more interesting (and a shame Geldof doesn't do a few more like them), but if any song would be played on Radio 2, Here's To You is the o...
Well not quite but... Bit of fun for these long winter nights - All the following appear in Boomtown Rats recordings. Simply find the song to which they belong. Have marked those that feature more than once (i.e. in different songs) and also some of the names all appear in the same song. No prizes on offe...
I'm a lifelong Boomtown Rats/Bob fan from Winnipeg, Canada and I can't wait to hear the new CD... but it's not out in Canada yet. I have heard the single and the snippets on the Amazon.co.uk site. Does anyone know of any online sites where you can purchase the new disc as a download outside of the UK? I ord...
Wonder what are the chances of Bobs album hitting the lower reaches of the album charts, ie the proper British album charts? Doubt if it would get in the top forty but could it scrape into the top 100? Also wonder how it will do in the Irish album charts- again not expecting much but curious none the less!...
Just up on youtube day looks like there is going to be a Geldof channel too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuMplSNLBdY -- Edited by ArrGee on Thursday 3rd of February 2011 06:55:27 PM - Just tried to embed video but it didn't work!-- Edited by ArrGee on Thursday 3rd of February 2011 06:56:02 PM
Won't get a chance until tonight to actually listen to the new album but it certainly is good value in Dublin anyway. Its on sale in HMV Dublin for E11.99 which is £10.12p in sterling. Thought it would be at least E20 or £17 so hopefully the reasonably price will persuade some to part with their cash more...
Chris Evans mentioned at the end of Tonights One Show that Bob would be one of the guests next week. -- Edited by Scottie on Thursday 3rd of February 2011 06:58:39 PM
So whadya reckon a typical day in the life of our Bob is like/entails. What do you think he has for breakfast? I might use my psychic powers for this one :) Must warn you I make a better medium than Pychic in fact even my mediumship ability seems to have left me temproarily - can be a bit like writers block sor...
This coming Monday, 7 Feb (official day of release of the new album) Bob is going to be interviewed on BBC TV News. Not sure what time. And they repeat everything over and over...
As if there weren't enough Geldof interviews doing the rounds guess who pops up on RTE1 tonight for a documentary on Irish rock magazine Hotpress. I think Hotpress is celebrating 800 issues so BG sings the magazines praises probably along with the usual Irish suspects eg Bono etc. I suppose Hotpress...
At least that is what I have been told. Trying to find out more. Will let you know.. -- Edited by Scottie on Sunday 30th of January 2011 03:45:11 PM-- Edited by Scottie on Sunday 30th of January 2011 08:04:46 PM
4 page interview with Bob in the current edition of Hot Press. The interview was 3rd of October last year at The Music Show in the RDS Dublin which unfortunately I had to miss due to being up in the air flying to Poland! More to come in the next issue! http://www.hotpress.com/Bob%20Geldof/news/Geldo...
Theres an interview with Bob in The Sun newspaper today. The March issue of Uncut also has an article about his life in pictures from his time as a music jounalist in Canada to the present day, there is also a review of the new album which is generally favourable apart from saying its baffingly over prod...
and does it extremely well too. I haven't met many irish people but the ones i have met have talked a lot. .....and very amusing they have been to listen to too....... this is just from my own observation, nothing i have read and nothing anyone has said to me, just from my own experience..... i also find so...
The Rats gig in Wimborne on Friday night has unfortunately had to be postponed due to illness - singer Peter woke up this morning (Wednesday) with a virus and nasty throat infection. He has been prescribed medicine from his Dr. More details for the rearranged date as soon as I have them.
Does anybody on the forum have a phobia about rats. I doubt if anyone actually likes them. I find they always make me shudder when I see them on television or in some documentary. I like horror movies and find they sometimes like gratuitous shots of rats to add to an eerie scene. The historical fact tha...
Very new, just been set up. I will be doing this from tomorrow, so be patient please, as I am new to twitter. Please follow us if you have a page. http://twitter.com/#!/BobGeldofFans
I BELIEVE Bob and the band are on the Late Late show on Friday on RTe You can watch for up to 21 days on http://www.rte.ie/player/#v=1089617 if I am wrong about the date, please excuse, but they are definitely booked sometime soon. -- Edited by Scottie on Thursday 27th of January 2011 10:21:37 PM
Reference to the Ambrosia ad in recent post got me wondering if any Rats tracks had ever been used in adverts, either TV or radio. Not aware of any but what would work? (and who knows even lead to a reissue or chart entry...ok, maybe not) I reckon some watchmaker could use Like Clockwork, perhaps Nikon or...
Does anyone know the lyrics for the third verse of close as you`ll ever be. It`s something that has bugged me for years. There is only two verse`s on the album but when they play it live(live at the music machine 1977 which is on the dvd extras) there is a third verse. If anyone can throw some light on this it...
For anyone intrigued as to how current Rats play Rat Trap and Mondays you can listen at link for this Saturday's gig http://www.palladiumclub.co.uk/ Personally I love the rework of I Don't Like Mondays, but would be interested to hear views of others.
Just noticed theres a song called Blow Hateful Wind on the Mercury Records six track test pressing on Ebay. Nearly certain this was not listen in the original fourteen track edition as I would have remembered the name. Generally don't spend my time looking on Ebay but was just curious as to whether any...
of his stage presence here in the UK. reportedly some are upset and boohooing because of Bob and his band's lack of presence on any stage in the UK! An idea has been put forward to raise funds for this event......we have so far got £12.33p - anyone like to donate? I could donate my old hi-fi for auction wort...
The Factory in Manchester (the famous HQ of Factory Records) and Fibbers in York. The gigs are on Friday and Saturday nights at cool all-standing venues right in the city centres. Tickets should be on sale soon. Also a gig TBC near to Antwerp. See here: http://www.boomtownrats.co.uk/the-rats-on-...
9pm, BBC4 This much-loved Irish rock band still play, after a fashion but their story is inextricably linked to their leader Phil Lynott, who died 25 years ago. Here, an impressive lineup of talking heads band members, producers, A&R men, Bob Geldof remember Lynott and the initial attraction o...
Haven't seen the film and never knew till today that The Happy Club from the eponymous album was featured on the soundtrack of The Parent Trap movie from 1998. Wonder what scene in the movie this song was used to "enhance". I know its a bit of a throwaway song but I've always liked it even the na...
Out with the new and in with the old......... I read somewhere that Bob likes to buy his suits from charity shops and doesn't care about his appearance. Do you think this is true? Surely he must care just a teeny weeny bit, otherwise he would NEVER have his hair cut and he obviously does have it cut otherw...
It could be old news but for thosos not aware Bobs promo videos for the songs below are available on www.nme.com I've seen clips of some and some in their entirety, but I've never seen I Cry Too and A Gospel Song, the latter is very funny, especially Bob attempting the Irish dancing. In The Pouring Rain Ro...
then yesterday whilst doing our charity stall for the Dr Hadwen Trust I avoided reading an anti-vivisection booklet cos I was told how horrible the pictures etc.were. A fewweeks ago I read an anti-fur leaflet and felt ill for a good 48 hours when I read about how they treat the animals in order to get the...
Just found a review of Compose in Record Collector website by Terry Staunton in which he says that the hidden track Young and Sober would have been better left hidden. Staunton describes Young and Sober as a "jokey Irish reel tracing his (Geldofs) life verse by verse. Staunton says that the trac...
Ok apart from Noel, and anyone living in Cornwall or Wales maybe....Anyone thinking of venturing down to Bideford to see the Rats on 22nd Jan? I'm thinking of going via Wimborne the night before if anyone wants to car share from London area and do both gigs, assuming they go ahead. Seasons greetings to...
Wonder will the forum get many new members or people joining in the debate after Bob releases his new album in February. It is after all a big event! hopefully some of the more casual fans will post their views on the album so we get a rounded view. Interesting as well where this album fits in in Geldofs so...
Its funny how the Rats biggest selling lp at the time Mondo Bongo was followed up by a complete failure in terms of chart action. I wonder was this down to a lack of a hit single on V Deep - Never in a Million Years and Charmed Lives didn't do much and House On Fire was a minor hit as the third single release...
Last night the death was announced of Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart one of the most revolutionary musicians of the sixties or any other decade. His music was akin to the art of Salvador Dali or Picasso totally without rules and something pretty unique. Hope some other Rats fans have heard some of...
From Daily Telegraph Duet for Bob Geldof? Bob Geldof, who has become better known for his charity work than his music, may be eclipsed by his girlfriend, Jeanne Marine. The French actress wrote and performed her first song just a year and a half ago, but tells me that she has already recorded her first a...
Does anybody things that BG will ever update his autobiography with a second part. So much has happened in his life since Live Aid in 1985 it would be very interesting to read of his exploits and experiences since that time. I'd imagine if he did do a revised and updated version if would be a bestseller- h...
BG is advertising watches and using a line from Looking After No1. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HF4nO31yIc I'm told there is an advert is the latest Stuff magazine.
I Just remembered this would be a good song for the new Rats to cover. Does anybody have the lyrics? Its a pity it wasn't on the reissue of the first album but you can only put so much on a cd I suppose with all the other extras. Doubt if Geldof will be doing songs like this on his new album but we live in deluded h...
What a superb gig that was. Nice to meet ArrGee, BTR, Suss, Joan of Arc and meet up with Wes and Liz again, plus friends. will tell you more later, need some sleep/rest. By the way, does anyone know what they were filming for and if we can get a copy?
It must have only been a few seconds but it was very strange. I was standing around chatting with other fans in the bar, before the gig. Simon and Garry appeared and after a short time came over to me. Simon said he'd not seen me before, who was I? I was explaining that I had been a fan for 33 years etc. Th...
The night after The Rats appear in nearby Whyteleafe... Urban Soundscapes Live! 27 Nov 10 Gerry Cott will play a series of one-off performances of Urban Soundscapes in acoustically and architecturally interesting venues. The first of these performances will be held at 7.30pm on 27th November 201...
Just had to say something..... So what are they like live then? Do people dance at their gigs? What do the girls wear? Does anyone get out of order? How do people dance at their gigs? Do tell
(suddenly that expression sounds weird, taking a leaf out of someone's book, where did that come from I wonder, books don't have leaves in them do they? hmm weird) anyway, moving on to the subject of this thread.......... Have you done? Has this man or others inspired you into doing anything for a cau...
By not releasing the new album before Christmas Bob has missed out on the potential of people buying it as a present for the "loved ones". My brother used to nearly always buy me some XTC album around Christmas. I would imagine some Geldof fans would have bought a few copies to remind their fr...
