You will be able to hear the repeat of last saturdays room 19 show in the next couple of days on the toginet player, or from bobgeldof.com. we ran a competition to win two tickets to the Chagstock Festival in Devon, and we made the question so ridiculously easy to encourage people to enter. If you would...
... and Wilco for that matter. Like one degree of separation. The Boomtown Rats name came from Guthrie's book Bound for Glory. Bragg recorded Mermaid Avenue which essentially was his reworkings of Guthrie's unrecorded work with Wilco. And Jay Bennett of Wilco recorded Kicking at the Perfumed Air...
I saw the infamous Cadogan Hall gig with Gerry Cott, Geldof looks wicked playing the guitar. I will be disappointed if he doesn't at the reunion. Maybe not for every song but at least for some of them.
We have drawn the two winners for the tickets to Chagstock as follows: 1. Simon Andrews 2. David Clancy Well done both! I will email you both with details shortly, Tina x

well they don't to my knowledge unless they sneak around in disguise lol it seems though, doesnt it, that 'they' are sortta more sacred than the rest of us........ as in they must live in kind of ivory towers unto themselves..... what i mean is they dont sort of mix with us ordinary folk do they? unless...
The Great British Alternative Festival Minehead -From the Jam along with The Blockheads, The Fall, Boomtown Rats, Eddie and The Hot Rods, Selector, Neville Staples, -- Edited by ArrGee on Wednesday 27th of March 2013 07:50:13 PM
Rats listings for Garry/Simon band are no longer posted under their own name. Class of 77 gigs for FTJ are still (currently) listed with Rats, but Blockheads ones for same dates are not. From memory the commitments were Minehead 26/4, Leamington 13/9 and Cambridge 14/9, but might well be worth chec...

When the Boomtown Rats went to No. 1 in England with Rat Trap, she recalls, Geldof went on Top of The Pops and ripped up a photo of John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, who had been...
Cork and The Isle of Wight is all well and good, but there have to be some more shows, surely. Obviously, a London date at Hammersmith Odeon (now Apollo), Hope & Anchor or The 100 club would fit the bill for me, though The Village in Dublin would be one I would definitely travel for. I reckon the locals...

Who thinks that Geldof and the Rats still have it? Shouldn't Bob put his money where his mouth is and write a great new song that will create a splash? Rather than complaining about how useless music is now, Geldof and the Rats should show how it could be done. I don't see why they cannot come up with new son...
This must be Simon, Garry and Pete and Al is joining them, we know as keyboardist. As long as he doesn't keep a birdless silence. Had to share, made me .

http://thecorknews.ie/articles/%E2%80%98i-am-half-corkonian%E2%80%99-9701 I do gigs with my own crowd, but its a bit more of a weight really with the Boomtown Rats. The band arose out of an economic social condition and we actually ended the band with an u...

An ad from Aiken Promotions appeared on RTE Radio 1 during the Pat Kenny Show mid morning advising that tickets go on sale for The Boomtown Rats Cork gig at 9am tomorrow!Normally only really heavyweight gigs get promo spots on radio, and the Pat Kenny show is the most listened to radio show in Ireland....
Just a bit of fun really. After being away for over 25 years the Rats comeback is extraordinary. What other comebacks can you think of that rank right up there? Apart from Lazarus in the bible? Liverpool 0-3 down at half time in Champions League. Various soap stars coming back from the dead on tv?Sharon...

I would imagine that the reunited Rats will play a warm up gig or two prior to their IOW appearance. Most bands do prior to touring/festivals and i would imagine its even more important bearing in mind that Bob and Pete will be joining in. These type of gigs are usually very low key and notification is no...
Hiya, I was wondering if anybody could help me.... I got home, checked on Discogs i cant seem to find this copy on there. Basically, the ca...

First of all I'm delighted the Rats will be performing together again but I was just thinking about the various motives. I suspect to a large degree it is friends getting who in the past have achieved remarkable success in the music business. I doubt there is too much of a financial motivation. More lik...
Only 2 or 3 weeks to go until BBC4 show the edition where the Rats enter at 28 with Looking After No. 1. The actual performance lurks about somewhere on You Tube I think as well. The end of the record shop. Have to confess I went into HMV and Fopp during the week and bought nothing, so I have played my part in their demise. That said I didn't buy anything in Music & Video Exchange either as all the LPs in the bargain basement had dropped to 10p and the racks were empty bar the u...

Hi everyone- not sure what people think of this song but I really have always loved it-back in the day I couldnt understand why it failed to chart and signalled a decline in the Rats fortunes. It just sounds so defiant even though the lyrics are a bit wooly and vague. At least the Rats could be unpredictab...
There is a feature in the Daily Mail (April 23) about a photographer, Brian Aris. Amongst the photos printed is a great one of Bob and Paula's wedding with Johnny Fingers, Garry and Simon as well as Bowie and some of Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet!
Would be great to see a few more than the usual suspects at these 2 gigs.Staying at the Mandol which is opposite the gig for Guildford.Cant make my mind up if im gonna drive back after Bristol or not.Anybody got any ideas of anywhere to stay close to the academy.
Saw Dick Whittington in Woking - the Rat King sang London Calling and Going Underground! Was hoping they would finish with Rat Trap but no luck Still very good - oh no it wasn't ..... oh yes it was!

V Deep was a commercial low point for the Rats, after the first four albums, but I was wondering if In The Long Grass sold more copies on the back of Geldof's involvement with the African famine effort, than V Deep? Neither album I don't think reached the Top 100 albums charts around the time of their re...
... a semi serious one, but I'm on the look out for a really cool Rats T-shirt. What I would like is a white shirt with the trademark Tonic for the Troops paint dripping, and THE BOOMTOWN RATS subtley embroided in yellow. That won't get anyone buying the re-releases! Not that it's really bad, but it is probably one of the lesser Rats tracks (still can't believe it made the best of ahead of House on Fire).
I realise that Kicks (which would be great to hear) would sound ridiculous sung by a 50-y-o, and there...
I've always been a bit intrigued and puzzled by the line from I Can Make It If You Can -'And down the road I'm told five people died...' Is it based on some real event or is it just fiction-feels a bit funny to just make up. The idea I've always held, with no proof, is that it might be a reference to some atrocit...
Who's the second best Bob in music? Dylan? Marley? Segar? Robert 'Bob' Smith of the Cure? late eighties indie band called Bob?Bob Mould of Husker du? Robert Forster of The Go Betweens?
With all the line up changes in the new Rats it got me thinking if any of us here on the forum have ever fantasized about getting up on the stage and singing a song or two, backed by Simon and Gary and the rest of them. Does anyone think they could hack it on stage and bring their Bob Geldof fantasies to life? J...
I am loving it. However, some questions keep going around in my head. Well 2. 1. Where did Bob find the book by Leslie Shepherd? Words from his own mouth - in a second hand book shop and on the piano of a friend... so which is it? 2. Bob describes himself as an atheist. Like me then. However, he refers...

Anyone looking for a really good music read this Christmas could do no worse than getting hold of a copy of Retromania, by music journalist Simon Reynolds. It's certainly the best book about the current malaise in the music industry I've read. One really interesting chapter covers the naughties, wh...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uv-9qKOncgE Interesting stuff. Never really remember hearing Gerry speak back in the day and was certainly more used to Bob/Fingers or Bob/Simon arrangements on this score. Of all the 'duo' scenarios, this always seemed more awkward generally, but in this sce...

http://www.chartstats.com/artistinfo.php?id=2829 Good site above and shows LANO to be the only single of theirs to arrest the usual steady decline after a peak and go back up again, so on 22/10/77 it was actually higher than it had been on 03/09/77

Leafing through the online Smash Hits archives, I get the impression they rarely gave the Rats a good review.
