Not normally given to advertising, but as it may prove handy to Rats fans heading to Dublin/Belfast in October. Also Ryanair have their £22.99 flights and even CityJet have cheap flight to/from Dublin from London City.
Cant make out whether it was their first gig in their own right in 27 years, whether it was because it was on their own turf[so to speak] or whether they have just matured like a fine wine, but how amazing was that gig.I thought the Isle of Wight took some topping but this just blew everything away. All be it...
The Autumn shows,do we all think the set list will be the same for each venue? Would be good if they could tweak for each date, going to quite a few of these so wouldn`t really want to hear the same set night after night, perhaps a few glasses of beer will help change my way of thinking. DO THE RAT..
According to twitter and www.gettothefront.co.uk The Boomtown Rats release a new hits collection in August, Back To Boomtown: Classic Rats Hits a full tour will follow in October,O2 Academy Bournemouth, 22 Oct 2013Corn Exchange Cambridge, 23 Oct 2013UEA Norwich, 25 Oct 2013Roundhouse London...
All back to Cork next summer? And of course the crowd was brilliant, I was in it! http://www.irishexaminer.com/ireland/aiken-lines-up-acts-for-next-years-marquee-236419.htmlMr Aiken said he already had a couple of acts booked for next year, but was remaining tight-lipped on who they we...
Biggest gig of the Autumn tour. It would be some vindication of the comeback to sell out the Roundhouse in Chalk Farm, an iconic punk venue. Just over 3000 tickets to sell? Will it work out?
Not sure how many BG fans we have here from Germany. But during the Room 19 show that will be broadcast on Saturday 6th April we will be giving away tickets to see Bob Geldof in concert. A pair of tickets for Dresden and a pair of tickets for Osnabruck.
Simply blown away by that performance. Utterly outstanding. How anyone could say that band who were on stage last night were anything less than brilliant would be crazy. Setlist attached. They didn't do picture.

Not sure how this will go but I joined the popular Peoples Republic of Cork forum and invited anyone interested to come along to Clancys on Friday if they wish. If we get a few that's ok, not expecting much. Will watch the feedback in the next few days, and there may be a few locals who can recommend interes...
What did any of you think of the projected visuals or graphics on the big screens to accompany the Rats gig. Pretty interesting, and a bit scary. From what I remember started off with a gun crosshair aimed at a few rats and proceeded to shoot them. Also remember rats head superimposed on front of Surfaci...

Looking at some of the footage from the date in Germany supporting Die Toten Hosen it must feel a bit like the glory days for Geldof. Large responsive crowds at this gig, and also seeing more footage from the IoW gig there was quite a crowd watching the Rats. He's probably at his best hamming it up in front...
Am going to Cork, alas all my good buddies couldn`t get time off so on my lonesome, anyone wanna meet up for a beer b4 the gig would be appreciated, saw em in iow was awesome so cant wait for oct dates so Cork here i come....
this is Joanofarc signing out of Bob fantasy...... i'm glad to say that at 45 years old i am getting over my bob fantasy........ even though the school girl type infatuation didnt start til my thirties lol...... i have come to realise that the connection i feel is more likely down to my being slightly...
Enjoying Elvis Costello at the moment. And Johnny Marr to follow. Sadly The Stoned Rolls are only letting them broadcast four songs. Shame BBC didn't cover Isle of Wight.
Decisions, decisions. Easy one for me with the prospect of a full headlining show in Ireland as opposed to sharing the bill elsewhere. -- Edited by ArrGee on Wednesday 17th of April 2013 11:51:44 AM
Was just wondering what people though of the guy at IoW playing the sax on Rat Trap. Not his musical performance, but his being onstage as one of the band, rather than just being in the background? I just get the idea that the stage was a bit cramped, and as the guy was not an original member it took away a bit...
Having seen Geldof perform a stunning version of this live with his own band. I would love to hear the Boomtown Rats perform it live. Please play. It is superb
Saw Chris Difford on Wednesday performing solo - second time I've seen him and it was a great show. Just him singing, playing guitar and talking about the past and other stuff. He mentioned the Boomtown Rats reforming - the first of a couple of mentions. He also related a story of when Squeeze and the...
Otherwise, great idea to have The Boomtown Rats emblazoned upon the dripping piant. Saves me having to redo the background and header for this forum/my blog. Looks like I'm on message
Let's hope Pete persuades Bob to make a return... When Adam Barton needs inspiration he reaches for a DVD of his rock star dad. Preston's talented midfielder admits he couldn't have a better role model than Pete Barton, vocalist and bass player with The Animals. In an exclusive interview in this we...
Currently a mere £3 in Asda stores if anyone hasn't got or wants more. It's the edition with extra tracks and (bizarrely) some Geldof solo stuff included. Assume that icon I've whacked onto this topic is indeed coins by the way. If it's someone looking at a couple of blokes through binoculars please di...
Why are the single versions of Rat Trap, Like Clockwork and Do The Rat to name but 3, not available on CD? Like Clockwork is a simple edit, so is easy to recreate from the album track, but Rat Trap has rerecorded lines that were on the single. Somehow, every CD version I could find of Rat Trap is the same, al...
I just came across this Irish music website called Goldenplec, and they are holding a draw to win two tickets for the Rats at the Marquee, Cork. Seems it's a 'simple question' you need to answer. But just read through the website beforehand as I think you may need to 'like' it on Facebook- but it seems ho...
Once this Isle of Wight date is out of the way, I suspect there will be another gig or two announced. Maybe one not sandwiched between Elvis Costello and Stone Roses at short notice with a bit of luck. Better keep the diary free. -- Edited by ArrGee on Wednesday 5th of June 2013 10:17:24 PM

Was wondering if those going to Chagstock plan on getting there early or in time just for Billy Bragg and The Rats? To be honest the latter acts are the only ones I think are of any repute so spending the day in a field watching acts I've never heard of does not seem like a good idea. Have a return Flybe flight...

Meant to post earlier...after a tip of from work colleague. Chris Evans was alluding to Geldof planning to join his (R2) show on Friday morning with a 'big' announcement to make. Maybe a tour??
Maybe a daft idea, but perhaps we could ressurect the tradition of inflatables in the crowd, and what would be more appropriate for the Rats than the inflatable banana...
Another unbilled performance arranged for next Friday, 7th June, at The Gate (pub), Rusper Rd, Ifield, Crawley, RH11 0LQ Not sure if/what charge to enter, but first come first served on this one. I've posted on FB a suggestion to meet up on Saturday night, for those who will be there already. Does anyone know of a nice pub that serves food? It would need to be served by public transport, so those without cars who are dispersed around the island can join us. Preferrably not in the centre of Newport...
They are scheduled to come on stage at 3.25 pm for 50 mins. does anyone want meet just to say hello or hangout for the gig). I was thinking about 1 ish Or so??? although Steve Harley on at 1 pm so maybe before or after that. -- Edited by Jules on Saturday 1st of June 2013 08:08:56 PM
Dear Bob, I'm coming to IOW festy to watch you and your band the BTRs. It would give me immense pleasure if we could meet you after the show for a beer. Well noone else has to be there except you and me actually but i think that perhaps the other fans would all be jealous and spiteful, especially that Jul...
Bob has confirmed he has written 2 new ones in an interview "Geldof says he still writes songs all the time and has written two new songs for the reunion tour one called Ratify and the other simply Boomtown Rats."
Anybody ever been at a truly disappointing, let down concert? I always remember a few years ago going to see The Inspiral Carpets in Dublin, about 2003. The Carpets were a good indie band don't get me wrong. Peaked in the early nineties. But for some reason they could not get the audience going and ever...
Geldof said recently that he does not give a f**k how people will remember him, when he dies. He has said numerous times that he doesn't care what people think of his solo music or indeed The Boomtown Rats. For someone spending a lot of time trying to do good in the world, despite not being liked by some, hi...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v5hHWVYvlY0 Take it from this, the Rats were number one in Australia for two, maybe three weeks, late Nov/early Dec 1979 with Mondays. Interesting how much later in the year this went to number 1 down under. Heard it said this was number one in 32 countries, but does...
I've been watching a fair bit of live in concert DVD's recently, by various bands. Some really good ones, capturing bands at their peak, from the comfort of your own armchair! One of two stand out like The White Stripes at Glastonbury 2005 (Peppermint Parade) Amazing at how Jack and Meg White can comma...
forum of boomtown rats forum...... so it has come to this, a power more dominant than bob himself, the one and only Boomtown Rats where Bob is ranked into a sub? lets have him then
Obviously there are the six we all know, but do any other ex or current members fit the bill? For me, Darren, Big Pete and Little Bob are Boomtown Rats. Alan should be one by the end of the summer, but do others like Dave McHale count? And what about Dave Maloney ? http://irishmusicdb.com/b/boomtown...
Bobgeldof.com is running a competition via Room 19 to win two free tickets to see The Boomtown Rats at The Chegstock festival which takes place at Chagstock Festival takes place at Whiddon Down, Devon from 19-20 July 2013.
All very strange... We have been advised by the promoter that Boomtown Rats at the Challenge Stadium on Tuesday 28th May has been rescheduled due to the addition of Eurogliders being added to the line up. The concert and will now take place on Saturday 25th May at Challenge Stadium. The start time wil...
just saying........i know this isnt really BTR related, but, i just wondered if anyone else has had their tonsils out.... and also lots of sympathy would be good too... thanks in advance for all the kind comments
Another band is returning to the stage after a break. Not as long as the Rats. But for some strange reason I can't fathom, they're taking all the attention. Wish I could see them too but I can't.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-3eBm9Wcx-k The Peel Sessions from 1977are now on YouTube in case anyone has not heard them. Not radically different from the recorded versions they are interesting nonetheless. Some interesting backing noises, vocals and bits on Neon Heart. Also good versi...

We have just finished recording the 19th show of room 19. 19 hours of pure genius!! Artists featured this week - BTR, Maroon 5, Bee Gees, Helen Shapiro, The Beatles, Champion Jack Dupree, Michael Jackson, Sex Pistols, Jam, David Bowie and Geldof. There is a lyric in a famous BTR song that says dont f...
With the upcoming dates in Oz, IOW, Cork and Devon does anyone have a favourite song to open the set. For me it would be Neon Heart, I don't know why but the opening chords are classic Rats and it's a great song to start off with, followed perhaps with Like Clockwork and She's Gonna Do You In.
According to an interview in the West Cork newspaper The Southern Star Garry Roberts expands on the current state of play in the Rats camp. Best news of all is that he confirms that both Geldof and Garry himself are not on a nostalgia trip and are interested in doing new songs.I'm not sure how long this in...
so whats your list of things to do before you die (that you haven't already done)? Why did they change the running order on the re-mastered CDs from the Vinyl ? When I was younger I got used to the running order on the vinyl records so I don't understand why they would change it for the cds ? Mondo Bongo doesn't sound right without Mood Mambo first !
