Well nearly. BBC4 6th Oct Bob Geldof Interview from 9-10pm and then Boomtown Rats live from Chippenham Goldiggers 1984. This is the concert that I had taped and lost. Watch out for a youngish Peter Cox from pre Go West on backing vocals.
(actually it's 55) Most amazed I have four Coldplay albums in there. I suspect I missed a couple of other good ones and also tried to not just select all the albums from a group (though Coldplay and Franz Ferdinand are the notable exceptions). Even left off a few bands I sort of like (e.g. Coral, Zuto...

A bit surprised Stiff Little Fingers headline over Buzz****s on Saturday. Might head home a bit early. Hoping for a good headliner on Friday. Too much to expect The Damned? (Given Undertones and Rats headlined last year there does seem to be a pattern of Irish headliners)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yuwhUx35Uc Such a stunning song about not making it in the music business. An underrated Australian singer songwriter, this song gives me goose pimples.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tp3_pI4SfHw Isla St Clair wants it to be the Boomtown Rats (about 13 mins in) and it is! Interview with Fingers and Bob and parts of Rat Trap and Mondays and SLAY follow. Everything was so much formal and where has 42 years gone? Happy New Year everyone!
Went to rugby yesterday as all the football matches were postponed and to my amazement the post match entertainment was The Starjets. They did play one new song, Geordie Best, alongside some Irish Trad favourites and some Punk/New Wave classics. Have to see if they play a gig in their own right in 20...
Hello, I realise that this is a bit of a niche question but does anyone know the size and who the musicians were of the various live horn sections the Rats had over the years? I'm thinking mostly in live concerts

40 years since this masterpiece was released I remember it well the cover is very distinctive and listening to it on a cold December night wish it had done better but hey that's how it goes
Did anyone else who attended feel a bit short changed? It was just a festival set list (14 songs) and not as good as either Stone Valley or Dagenham. I expected a bit more given it was their only tour date that remained and tickets were just north of £50. Started at 8:30pm (actually a bit after cos of the...
http://www.last.fm/group/Irish+Rock+League They really have no competition. I expect they will be promoted next season. Oddly the league is led by the Pogues. Who come from England! Oh yes they do... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Pogues Oddly no JJ72, but next season the boys from t...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ssIPRMrYzU At about 1:14, there is talk of 8 new Rats songs, 6 of which Pete and Bob worked up last week into a fit state. He cant see the festivals happening and doesnt want to tour as he thinks its worthless now. Wants to play the Palladium though.
I have just been playing the 2005 copy of V Deep. After all these years after the original in 1982 it just seems a lot better today.I do not know whether the changing around of the songs helped but I really enjoyed listening to it again. It seems a natural follow on from Mondo Bongo.I allways enjoyed House...
Well here we are with the 2nd single and this is tough. My thought on the second single changes a lot.For example I like the album version of Elephants Graveyard but thought the single was lacking the final verse where as House On Fire was better being shorter.I also prefer the album version of Heres A Po...

Battle of the 'Plastic Paddies' or Birmingham vs London.Any votes on which is the better band. I go for Dexys- their early albums were brilliant ,and the later ones a bit 'eccentric' to say the least.Just a quick survey out of curiosity, rather than going into detail. I think my favourite Dexys song i...
Hi all - couldnt immediately see any mention of this so for anyone who can make it or possibly wants to make a trip and double up with London Palladium please see below. Its very close to Gatwick Airport for anyone unfamiliar with Crawley.
New posthumous album by Gerry raffe rty called rest in blue compiled by Martha raggedy this is a Fab album I miss him glad he had some songs in the vault from 2011
7 albums have been released so I thought it would be fun to rate the first single from each album and give them points so we can find a winner.7 points for your favourite first single , 6 for the second etc etc.I will start with my list. Hi everyone, been a member for years but never post, decided to to buy a vinyl player again, just wondering what's the best site to buy the rats 7inch, 12inch and lps from, also can you get any bootlegs does anyone know please
Having got most of the Beatles CDs last time they were issued (Well everything post-Revolver plus the red album to cover the early stuff) I had hoped that this remastering would include a re-release of the vinyl, but no. nada. Having seen the CDs with their paper packaging, I couldn't even muster th...

Suppose the Rats will go on next year and do another tour. I thought about that last week on the way back after the amazing Roundhouse gig in London and decided to come back if they do another UK tour next year (I won't go to festivals, even if they play here in The Netherlands; I really hate festivals...)....

Was just wondering with Bob in lockdown for best part of year will that mean he turns to writing songs? Seems pretty likely to me, what else could he do. Logically this potentially means new Rats songs and possible a new album sooner than we can have expected. Still not a big fan of Citizens. Maybe I'm jus...
We have had a brilliant 2 years since the Boomtown Rats returned. But I now wonder is it time for a change in the set list?.I for one would love to hear Joey,Elephants Graveyard,Drag Me Down,House On Fire etc. What do people think, stick with what is working or change it up a bit?.
I like this live version of Rebel Rebel. Bob sounds a little croaky but it's a good performance. Joined by Mr Mondo Bongo Tony Visconti and Stewart Copeland of The Police.

Picked up a copy of Mondo Bongo from India(it also came from India). The sleeve was in a bad state and the record covered in dust but it plays and I love it.The biggest difference is the back cover being different to any other.
I ordered a promo copy of COB from the States and on a sticky label it says truetonegroup.com/boomtownrats and on that link you can listen to the single version of Trash Glam Baby and Citizens of Boomtown.
Just got an email about Paul Wellers latest record coming out in various vinyl, CD and cassette formats - some limited editions. Doubtless a remixed special edition will follow to coincide with tour dates. Isnt a CD and an LP enough? Greedy bastards! And David Bowies Brilliant Live Adventures. ...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZR0vsEOcYqI Extraordinary number of Geldof banners here and very warm audience reaction to the Great Song if Indifference. No wonder years later he might reasonably have expected more than 45 to turn up to another Italian bash.
Years ago, I had a Warwick records budget LP compilation called Modern Rockers, which featured a completely different (musically and lyrically) version of She's So Modern to that on any Rats record I ever had.
Does anyone else remember this one, or - better still - does anyone know how come such a di...
Hi I listened to this today and found it quite interesting. A Canadian guy's review of The Boomtown Rats from their first LP. Concentrates on The Fine Art of Surfacing, and brings in a guest speaker half way through. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfebjfNIQLw Timbo
Just listening to this 4disc anthology (surprised yeh definitely is not on this compilation ) I have it on demo single but could've sworn it was on there is there more than one version of this anthology
I just bought a ticket for this. 'The Wall' is an interesting bit of Bob's career. I've always wanted to see him at the Hammersmith Apollo and this will be my first chance. I love The Boomtown Rats but I've always enjoyed seeing him do other things as well. He was excellent at Bill Wyman's 80th birthday c...
Love this song. Remember buying the album it was on. Level headed. The L P version was much better than the single. But in my opinion great song. The only other song of sweet I liked was a single call fox on the run
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sqprpo6GJjE (at 8 mins in) I've read about Bob's speech but I didn't realise that it had been filmed. I'm remarkably impressed by his bottle. -- Edited by Rats Fan on Sunday 7th of February 2021 04:35:54 PM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OiGiEyuTapE Being interviewed after the video for Never in a Million Years. Just like on the BBC Saturday Superstore airing, it is rearranged and edited to omit the cut fingers elements of the video, clearly deemed unsuitable for Class 3H ! Discusses The Wall an...
It seems the Boomtown Rats appeared on the childrens tv programme from ATV. Tiswas about four times. Its hard to get full information about the appearances. One of the involved Geldof and Fingers rather than the full band. ITVSOURCE.NET lists Tiswas programmes featuring the Rats but does not give a...
Sadly I think this list shows music has gone down the dumper in recent years. I reckon of the 20 or so songs I like, most of them were around 2004 (Razorlight, Libertines, Green Day, Gorillaz, Keane, Kaiser Chiefs, Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Streets, Outkast, White Stripes, Arctic Monkeys). I stil...
I wonder if The Rats could get on the bill for this? A big one as it is the Glastonbury 50th anniversary and 35 years since the Rats played there last. Rats came on main stage at 4pm on Friday after The Pogues. But before King??? WTF! Apparently very muddy on the Friday. But it only cost £16. Next year...
I understand from the Rats social media that every date in 2020 has been delayed until 2021, but I have received no word from the promoters and ticket company. The Palladium website is still selling tickets. I don't mind keeping my ticket for a rescheduled date but I don't want the date to go by without e...

I was getting really excited when I saw Born to Burn lyrics in the book - sadly its only the 1st verse and 2 lines of the 2nd verse. The other lyrics he mentions- "piano player thumping keys" and "Man these walls are gonna blow" aren't in the song. I think these were alternative lyrics to some of the vers...
